you don't have to pay you just go to the log in page and click High Detail it is a little laggy but its worth it

yes. they made new background graphics.. BUT the characters still look the old pixel/colour statues ( unless you talk to NPCs ) but anyways great vid from jagex. it clearly says '' please dont quit, look we added new tiles to your road, you must continue playing'' like I can't see tiles outside -.- rofl
