  • You NEVER put a antenna near powerlines... Might I suggest, nextime you do a video like this, going to a park, or open field? I'd hate to see anyone get hurt. Just a thought.

  • thanks for posting..... de kl0ky

  • Hello every body! Thanks for all the comments!

Check out some of my other Ham Radio videos where I act equally as stupid! 73 all the best - Simon - 2E0HTS

  • nice put together video, i to thought god thats close to power lines,

  • nice dog

  • thats cool wouldnt mind having that set up for cb

  • A lot of unknowing hams discount this antenna as being "junk" or "hard to tune." The secret is to put out as many radials as possible. It just WONT WORK if it has no radials.

  • @TheZeke1974

i have seen these used by a number of people. including people who did not set it up right. even in those cases it still worked good.

when i get my own place i will be getting one of these.

  • Hi Im thinking of getting one of these as opposed to the cobwebb how did you find it FOR DX and have you ever field tested it for output as opposed to another vertical as I hear the traps are very lossy Thanks Damian de 2E0SFX,

PS Is there any chance you could do an instructional do's and donts of getting on sats with the ft847 cheers again.

  • Hi, very nice Videos. Compliment. Nice dog too! Hope to hear once on air. I prefer 10m,15m. More information you get at QRZ.COM.

All the best, 73 from Stefan, DO6RR

  • @Teramydog hello its an original yaesu ft-100. had it about 6 years now and its unbeatable!

  • very well done Simon ...

It`s great to take a field day .

    73

  • Nice idea, but hell fire matey, when i saw the power lines i nearly expected you go 'woooshh' bang....be careful fella....add a couple of resonant radials wire off the earth point to improve what should be a nice mobile setup....worth a trip to the seaside!!!!

Work you one day on HF regards Adrian F5VLY

  • Tnx Adrian,

The power lines are not so close up off camera h.i

I have another Hustler I use with radials and its been doing a good job ;-)

    Hope to hear you soon!

    73 Good DXing

  • Great Video Mate......Can't believe it's resonant without radials.

    VK4HAM

  • tnx Andrew, It does great 40 - 10m but really needs radials for 80M to make tuning a bit easier!

Hope to hear you on and nice web site you have, I linked back from your QRZ entry. keep up the good work. 73 de Simon

  • Thanks Gregg, I hope to get out and do some more dancing with the 6BTV.

All the best from Yorkshire England, hope to hear you on the bands one day soon.

    Best 73 de 2E0HTS Simon

  • Thats funny I use the same size spanner to change my Argosheild bottle on my Mig set.....and how do you get under bridges????.....joking aside superb idea, I worked a guy in the States with a 3 Ele beam mounted the same way on his Chevy pick-up on 20 meters last week!!!!..........73's Dave (M0OGY)

  • Those spanners are almost good enough to use as an antenna h.i

The 3Ele Chevy sounds cool! Keep up the good work and Happy welding.

    73 Dave, de Simon.

  • The dog is the king :))))

    73 YU2MMA

  • CQ Dog Xray h.i

All the best from the Dog and I. 73

  • the dog??? is its included ? ce3bb/ve6

  • No I would not have a radio partner if it were not for the dog h.i

    tnx and 73

  • Very nice, I've had the 6BTV for 4-5 years now stationary, perfect antenna if you have to be low-profile. I would suggest mounting the bottom mast portion first, then slide the rest of the antenna onto it and just tighten the hoseclamp...it'll minimize you having to dance around with the ant. trying to get it mounted (trust me, being doing that same dance every day I put my 6BTV, HIHI). Still, that's a WICKED portable-fixed antenna, works like a champ! 73s de N5UV

  • Thanks, and maybe we could get the copy write for the 6BTV Dance h.i.

It sounds a good idea and yeh they sure do the job. (Have 2)

Got a new Vehicle so have to make a new mount.

Will take all ideas to the drawing board. 73

    All the best ;-)

  • nice man me dad add the same ant but its never worked

  • Tnx, strange that your Dad had problems? I have 2 6BTVs and they both work well.

    73

  • he a we`vw had it up in the air 40ft with radials down on the floor with about 40 radials still no joy he does have a couple of good ants but these btvs are no joy cheers by the way a have a 3 ele moxon square 20mdipole,75 ft random wire cheers ay way only down the road chesterfield

  • tnx Todd, I will listen out for you on your Moxon.

    73

  • Jesus christ man, look how close you were to the power lines!! Very dodgy.

Can anyone smell ham burning (sniff sniff)

  • It Looks Closer on film. ;-)

  • Fantastic.... You have just inspired me to get my BTV6 off the ground, where it has laid for quite a while! The Comet is OK, but I have had better results with my ATAS from mobile! Thanks for the inspiration. I also have the 17m attachment to try too.

    73's de G7NVS in Leicestershire

  • Good Luck, I am Confident you will be pleased with the 6BTV performance /mobile.

I had an ATAS 120, but prefer the Mono Band Antennas especially MALDOL, they seem to work well for me.

73 thanks for comenting and let me know how you get on, maybe we could work Mobile 6BTV to each other here on youtube h.i

    regards de 2e0hts Simon

  • Jeepers, death wish with the overhead cables!

    Can't beleive you did that

  • lol, It looks close on the film but the cable runs away in the opposite direction.

It sure helped make the video popular :-)

    Thanks and regards

  • Yes, bet it wasn't as close as it looks on the vid. :)

  • What was the QTH?

  • Baildon in West Yorkshre

    73 all the best

  • Hi Simon!!

Nice Video 6btv working fine how about the SWR?

    73 FROM

    Venezuela YV1RDX Julio

  • Hi Julio! SWR is good 40m up to 10M with less than 1.5 across all bands.

80m is very narrow banded and requires an atu.

All the best Julio and hope to work you again on the bands soon.

    73 Julio de Simon 2E0HTS

  • Great video, if you are 1000ft asl and have that antenna you must work some fantastic dx, How far away have you managed to work. I am really impressed and it has got my brain ticking now for ideas of my own, 73 and say hi to dudley for me

    Cheers Steve M0SAF, Loughborough, Leicestershire

  • Hi Steve

Ive worked all over Arigentina to Japan h.i

It works well, I have been using my other Hustler about 3 years and it is still as effective especially 40m. 20m & 15m.

    All the best 73

    thanks for comments

    Simon & Co

  • Truly Beautiful! Wish I had such a toy Hi Hi!

  • Thank You Very Much

  • exelente !!!!

  • THANKS!

  • Great and interesting vid!

  • Thanks a lot, It is apreaceated.

    Regards, Simon, Yorkshire, England. 73

  • A true mobile antenna system can be used while the vehicle is in motion, including the ability go pass under overhead neighborhood wires, bridges and overpasses. Instead of calling t a mobile station, perhaps a mobile portable station would have been more accurate.

    Eric N7DLV

  • Yes I agree! That is why I called the video Hustler 6BTV Base Station(The clue is in the word Base antenna)Antenna used on my mobile Station.(Mobile station as in the vehicle with the mobile antennas fitted on it).The title is an accurate discription of this video.

  • Thanks for the clerification! Have you tried using radials attahed to the antenna mount? For temporary portable verticals, I use Radio Shack 5 conductor rotator wire. if you get 100 feet you can make a set of 5 radials for 80 meters and a set of 5 radials for 20 meters. Your TX radiated power and RX signals will improve signifigantly. Your SWR bandwidth will narrow a bit indicating improved efficiency.

    Eric N7DLV

  • Hi Eric, I hav'nt tried the radials yet but thanks to your experence I will give it a go next time I fix up the Ant.

Ive been using 4 resonant (20M) 1/4 inch wire radials on my other 6BTV that I use at home with excellent results. Thanks for your comments and good advice. 73 all the best, Simon

  • Whoa! Your dog looks *exactly* like my own lurcher. Same colour, markings and temperament. Spooky. Mine is just as well behaved.

Have you tried using some wire radials rather than a small ground stake? I find they work far better with my DIY vertical. Remember that with verticals, the ground is (or should be) the other half of your antenna system.

    Kind Regards

    AL GM1SXX

  • Hi AL, Thanks for the comment.I have got to agree with you on that one :-) I have another Hustler I use at my QTH which is ground mounted with radials and it works great espeicialy 40,20,15 and 10M.

Hope to hear you on the bands and thanks again for commenting it is apreciated. I bet your Lurcher loves it in Scotland as my Saluki Greyhound cross Lurcher "Dudley" is in his element running across the Yorkshire Moor Tops.

    GM1SXX 73 de 2E0HTS cheers!

  • Nice car, big antenna, living in a fuckin' camper....

  • You got it all right apart from the "living" part. If you read the previous comments you will see it says summer home, Dick head!

  • Awesome set up, good luck !!

  • Thanks all the best!

  • Hi Simon, Nice vid buddy - where did you shoot it, Skeggy?

Love the lurcher too, good lamper by the looks of it.

I'll listen out for you this end (IC-706 MKIIG)

GUD DX DE XU7ADQ (Ex G station)

  • Hi there! tnx for the comment, I shot the vid at my Summer home up on the Yorkshire moors 1000ft asl.I am there 10 months of the year and its great for Dxing. I am glad to know that your active in XU7 land and it will be a new one for me so lets hope we make the QSO.

Greetings from West Yorkshire (10miles North West of Leeds). 73 all the best Simon p.s Dudley the Dog-Greyhound Saluki cross is very fast and likes having the Moors as a garden h.i :-)

  • Thankfully the camera makes it look like the telephone lines are a lot closer than they actually are. Its nice to know your looking out for me Randy, I hope to hear you one day soon. 73

  • Gee, I saw those power lines, please be careful. Happy DX - Randy

  • hi Simon. great piece of engineering home brew. like the demo in the car. good luck saturday.

  • Thanks Mick (turnermedman) I am looking forward to saturday it should be good fun

  • Nice Big moblie 73

  • Thanks I will be testing it out this weekend so hopefully it will be resonable conditions on the HF bands. Thanks for commenting 73

  • well behaved dog i see didn't seemed phazed by the antenna going up! looks a little dicey wobbling around like that but working well.

  • The Dog just loves to be around no matter what, He is currently learning Morse code in a mixture of barks and howls. It sure wobbled about, I will have to take alfonzo2000 advice and modify the bracket. I thank you for your comments and rooof from Dudley the dog

  • Don't forget to go shopping with the antenna atached...=)

    73's

  • V0YNICH, I would have to watch out for peoples telephone lines lol. Thanks for watching.

  • just dont drive off with it on :-) looks great set up, an idea would be a pivot joint at the base with a pin or bolt to lock it so you could mount it laid down and swing it vertical after bolting up.

  • Great idea, I will modify the bracket it will be less wobbly and easier to set up :-) thanks for watching and 73

  • Thanks! it seems to be working well I am looking forward to making some QSO and working across the Atlantic to Canada, USA and South America as well as World Wide DX. 73 all the best.

  • lovely ! good show .
