This guy came to our school, we all though 'Eh! What a fool this guy is! LOL' but as the assembly went by, we knew this guy isn't your average guy. Very inspirational no doubt, and we thank you for sharing your story, I'm sure it touched all our hearts when you explained to us about such a horrific unexplainable torture you had to endure.. Thank you Emmanuel.

Good Job Jal. Africa is a continent blessed with natural resources and great weather. Unfortunately the endless wars have retarted development, led to the death of many people and destruction of property. The very western governments calling for peace talks are the ones providing guns and ammunitions to the rebels and dictatorial governments. Africa has the smallest gun-manufacturing facilities but suffers from the greatest deaths due to guns..
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It's a conference (yearly?) that features "remarkable talks" by "remarkable people." Emmanuel Jal gave a speech at a recent one.
ok i read the book and i know people like him have extensive hardships but mabe there is just to many people... im not saying that is an excuse but we cant even matain our current lives so how can we save others like him... the lost boys???
This isn't rap, it's hip-hop. There is a difference, but both reflect the voices of those who deal with life on different levels. Rap has been turned into a commercial product by the industry and has lost a lot of its voice in the process as it doesn't resemble what the early pioneers put out.
But different strokes for different folks, it's not for everyone and I respect that.
If it's mainstream and only speaks of hos, money, cars and clothes and has no message, it's commercial entertainment and not true rap as it has then evolved into a commercial product and has not maintained the art form that it is.
He has a book called War Child, which is a memoir of his life as a child soldier. Its a really good read but I don't know of the names of the other books, he if has written any.

man, your book is amazing! I'm reading it right now, and I'm only page 100 or so, but it touches your heart. The music is great, god bless you, Emmanuel Jal.
I am a 15 yr old sudanese rapper, I was only a child when i came to australia, so i have not bad memory about my homeland...Wat Emmanuel talks is something I hear a lot because many people have throught it. Emmanuel is an inspiration to all young sudanese who want to be part of the music industry in the future
I have seen Emmanuel and he is so awesome and blessed by the grace of God. His testimoney are so sad and it is really fanastic what he trying to do helping those children who used to be child soldier giving them their childhood back that he missed out. God bless u.
Hey Emmanuel (by the way, awesome name! Do you know what it means? God is with you man!),
I read about you yesterday (De Pers, Dutch newspaper) and I wanted to check you out on the internet. I really appreciate the work you're doing, even though I can't imagine how it must be to live in war.
I found an interview in ´De Pers´ this morning, I read it and now I searched for your music.
I never were in a war, because The Netherlands doesn´t have one in my whole live, well, not that directly attacks me... But I understand the point that you want´s to maken!
Good music, good story, good beat.
Awesome!
Please go on rappin´, hope things will change soon.
Amazing life story of suffering and his on-going search for redemption ... savage beauty. The words convey his intent, but the music is so upbeat that I worry it will make the idea of being a "war child" appear glamorous rather then horrific to the hip hop crowd. Nevertheless, he is an artist worthy of respect and support.
i saw him yesterday at his speech at the mitchell library, hes so amazing to be able to overcome something like that and talk about it still...im only 2 chapters into his book and i cant wait to get reading again! Hes raising so much awarness.
peace thank you for your story, thank you so much. My great grandfather was a freedom fighter in poland which is a part of where I feel my roots. not in a good or bad way, but just that is what it is. peace, thank you
Fantastic song! crap video! you're speaking about warchildren and your life yet none of these things are reflected in the video... I would love to see a re-released video with more relevance...
Hello....I caught you on the The Hour lastnight.....your words moved me,and I am not a guy to get moved very often.Keep doing what your doing, spread the word.....PEACE BROTHER
The woman in despair... the man by the wall (homeless, poor, whatever)... the kids on the street... his music is meant to touch the lives of them all and give them hope. See how he puts the headphones on both the black guy and the white woman at the end... he tries to help them out through his music, which crosses physical and racial boundaries. It goes out to anyone with a heart, anyone in need of kindness and hope. "...to tell my story, to touch lives" ... which is what he does.
i got to go qith the book signing with Mr. Jal and Ms. Giovanni at Barnes and Nobles last night and his story stuck with me but ma mom and i were upset dat we didn't get his autograph as well due to limited money...but i'm glad he is here and i'm glad he's telling his story and may God bless and keep u Mr. Jal always:-)
Sorry, but what do u mean by muslim regime??? Sudan is 80 per cent Muslims, did u mean Islamist regime?? cus there is a big difference between the two
I am Muslim and believe that religion should be seperated from governance while islamist is the person who wants to adopt an islamic regime or rule.... google the word and you would see the difference in news it's defined as follows in your dictionary:
Is·lam·ist (iz läm′ist, is-; --lam′-; iz′ləm ist)
noun
an advocate or supporter of Islamic, esp. orthodox Islamic, political rule
adjective
of or pertaining to Islamists, their political and social goals, etc.
haters go fuuck each other you don't know anything about emotion and music
rapping "talent" is worth SHIIT anyways, and i'm not all hating on rap, there's a bunch of rappers that kick ass, but still, seriously, you're all dumbfuucks
i'm an arab sudanese and i'm ashamed. my friend is from south sudan. emmanual, i'm so sorry for all that you've suffered. i can't even imagined what you've got through. thank you for sharing your story.
Ppl plz stop being so racist. this entire comment board has been filled with racist comments. May GOD punish those who are prejudice and racist.
let me guess your in support of the genocide, you arabs are such hypocrites there you are condeming these people to death in their homeland but when isreal launches a missile attack against palestine in its own defence you are so quick to cry and bitch.
I've meet Emmanuel and went to a screening of his documentry film in Belfast.
He is truely inspiring.

This is the point from which I could never return
And if I back down now then forever I burn
This is the point from which I could never retreat
Cause If I turn back now there can never be peace
This is the point from which I will die and succeed
Living the struggle, I know I'm alive when I bleed
From now on it can never be the same as before
Cause the place I'm from doesn't exist anymore

The woman in despair... the man by the wall (homeless, poor, whatever)... the kids on the street... his music is meant to touch the lives of them all and give them hope. See how he puts the headphones on both the black guy and the white woman at the end... he tries to help them out through his music, which crosses physical and racial boundaries. It goes out to anyone with a heart, anyone in need of kindness and hope. "...to tell my story, to touch lives" ... which is what he does.

Eballaz00 3 years ago
I am Muslim and believe that religion should be seperated from governance while islamist is the person who wants to adopt an islamic regime or rule.... google the word and you would see the difference in news it's defined as follows in your dictionary:
Is·lam·ist (iz läm′ist, is-; --lam′-; iz′ləm ist)
noun
an advocate or supporter of Islamic, esp. orthodox Islamic, political rule
adjective
of or pertaining to Islamists, their political and social goals, etc.
