  • That guitar must be heavy

  • Guitar's too loud. And not played with sufficient skill

  • @hydorah Welcome to Rock and Roll..

  • sounds like McCartney

  • they were just trying to be a bit more over the top with the image

  • I can't see the point in this 5 neck guitar at all...other than being a good gimmick

  • @DarkMedievalTimes1 i think the 5 neck guitar is just a cheap trick honestly.

  • man he butchered that guitar line

and he is a great guitar player

  • I really doubt he can even play the guitar at the bottom

  • @kikiphallin The bottom one is fretless. Look closely. And the bass is a 12 string bass, again, look closely. 3, 3, 3, and 3 - I've actually played one once, but it was white, and had a strat shape body. Intresting sound, though. Just some useless knowledge I thought I would pass along.

  • 3:41 gave me goosebumps!

  • That's still a great song...memories are left.

  • Love this group, they rock, they're awesome!

  • One of the best rock groups ever

  • @jeffvv42 oooooohhh yes..i saw them and wow...much apreciation...queen was the same for me...never will there be a queen song that i dont prick up my ears..same with cheep...trick...please no bad shit for me...

  • If he tries to smash that guitar, he's screwed.

  • i love this song :')

  • awesome vocals..:)

  • how can this be from 1989 when Rick is wearing a shirt that says 2000 on the back?

  • @MichaelDio Because obviously he rocks so hard that he can warp time & space!

  • Three cheers for Bun E. Carlos!

  • Rick Neilson just seems a little weird. Obviously there are people who love them.

  • ****

  • You got a nice job tuning that thing, or finding a case to it

  • he plays all of the necks but not the very last fret-less one

  • When you play in a band with one of the best voices in all of rock, you need a gimmick guitar to keep up.

  • How the hell do u play the way bottom guitar

  • lol....hes wearing a cheap trick shirt....

  • FIIIIIIIIIIVE!!

  • If you think the guitar is crazy, wait till you see the case.

I dont know whats bigger, the guitar, or the gaping hole pam anderson calls her vagina.

If the same string breaks on all of those necks, it could be a sign you shouldnt play guitar.

If you own a guitar like that an dont have back problems, you sir are a god.

  • many don't know that the five-necked guitar was a practical compromise from the eleven-necked model required to play 'Surrender' properly. i salute rick's economic and pragmatic nature.

  • @2ndAsstJizzMopper

    Hahahahahahahahahaha! How sensible! :-)

  • Hall of fame-HELLO

  • can you honestly tell me you forgot? Forgot the magnetism of Robin Zander, or the charisma of Rick Nielsen?

  • @njbill fast times at ridgemont...classic!

  • @njbill

    LOVE fast times

  • FUCK THAT

  • Does he ever use that bottom fretless neck? Gotta be difficult, when it is at knee level.

  • I was here also!! I went to 4 concerts that year at the livestock show. Cheap Trick, Alabama, George Strait and one other one. The rotating stage was several country videos from that year. The dome did stink from sound.

  • OOOHHH that's who did this song! its been bugging me for years

  • 1:59 he's like, "fuck i forgot the lyrics'

  • Yes they had wireless technology back then.

  • I love Rick's guitar collection, and his 5-necker totally blows everyone else out of the water. That guy is hilarious!

  • wireless technology in that age?

  • It's the smallest most compact guitar i've ever seen

  • @TheSundograin I know, I've seen bigger ukuleles.

  • It's the smallest most compact guitar i've ever seen.

  • Heavy mother of all guitars

  • Anybody know if this was a rodeo appearance. There wasn't many shows at the dome other then rodeo.

  • @sueintexas Yes, it was at the Livestock Show and Rodeo. The same stage that rotated was used for all of the performances there.

  • @sueintexas It was indeed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I was there, and remember the background and the rotating stage. Sounded horrible in the Dome, as pretty much everything did....crazy double vocal effects on this too. Sounds like he;s singing to a recording of himself.

  • Unessesary but incredible, this is

  • well if that guitar isn't just a cry out for attention i don't know what is! Great song though

  • I LOVE THE CHECKERED STUFF!

  • rick looks lost at roughly 1:50

  • That must be really hard 2 play. How do they do that?!

  • Tuning must be a B I T C H .

  • 凄い! Cheap! Please once more come here Japan!!

    New Surrender!!!

OK! Please! Come to Japan! 押忍!

  • I am japanese.

    Surrender...Yes! just is !!

    KAMIKAZE=神風

  • I'm not musically inclined or know much about guitars but shouldn't his 5 guitar thing be plugged into something??

  • @weneedhelp123 It is. 1:16 when he lifts it see that big black box on the back? Thats a transmitter. Wireless PA system.

  • @weneedhelp123 hes got a wireless system:)

  • @weneedhelp123 it's wireless technology

  • whats all that stuff on the bass guitars headstock?

  • @noper12345 its a twelve string bass, bass tuners and guitar style tuners

  • cool guitar but it must be kinda hard playing the lowest one

  • Wow ive seen 2 guitars in one...But five? ZOMG ^^

  • Not their very best era, but also not their worst. Bun E's such an amazing drummer, man. Nobody gives it that heavy heavy swing that he does.

  • fuck!! they totally jammed this songs that night!!! Bun is SLAMMIN!

  • wow!!!

not a good performance by Rick.

i've been to the dome since 1981 when i saw the Rolling Stones with ZZ Top and the fabulous T birds opening, this was i show i missed?? uhmmm??

  • That guitar has to was a ton!

  • wow, thats kind of...unnecessary. can he even reach the bottom 3 necks?

  • @asianibanez ..yah if u watched the whole video you would have noticed.. even if you watched until 1:30 you would have seen that he's playing the second neck from the bottom..

  • what the fuck, how intense is his voice at 3:44

  • Yeah no kidding, one guitar for each finger - LOL

  • what's the difference between each one

  • the vocals effects is awesome!

  • This must have been at the Houston Rodeo,,,,though the stage always revolves slowly...it's a strange place to see a show but thats how they do it in Houston ,,,,

  • that guitarist sucks

  • 12-string guitar, anyone?

  • the worst solo i ever seen XD

  • Actually I thought Rick Nielsen said that guitar weighs over 15 kgs, which inst exactly light for a guitar

  • @Apis4 On the interview with Alen Thike he said it weighs 58lbs. I'm not good at converting. so I'm not sure if thats close to your coment.

  • Jesus, what a voice. Incredible.

  • this is a great version!

  • If i could rate this a 1,000,000, i would!!!!

  • i saw that guitar in person and manit was cool

  • La tremenda wea

  • Just saw them live an hour ago. They are still as good as.....

  • @jetsnation, LOL. Its true no one knows better how to fuck up a song than Rick. Crazy bastard with crazy sweaters and ties

  • hey selena sang on tha stage too

  • bun e fuckin rocks!!!

  • che chitarra!!

  • I remember seeing Cheap trick when they were first starting out in the Chaudierre,Hull, Quebec. Great band. Had the place rocking. Guitarist just keeps getting bigger and better. Are they still alive and performing?

  • Yep, they're still active as a band :)

  • @adventure002006 of course!!! there on tour or life as rick would say

  • Man, nobody can f*** up a song like Rick.

  • holy shit what a guitar!!!!

  • Do you suppose he a separate guitar tech just to take care of that thing !?!?!

  • @drandall1776 his guitar tech HATES!! that guitar with a passion. he said that in an interivew that i think is still up on youtube

  • @tduassassin i dont know if its a guitar or guitars ahhaahah

  • @tduassassin

    Exactly my point.

Rick Nielsen is, and has always been a mad scientist / axeman.

    Smoke Weed.

  • @tduassassin Mines Bigger =P

  • That guitar looks very light and easy to play!!!

  • @raywagman Rick let me hold one of his five-neck guitars a couple of years ago. It weighed 57 pounds! I have no idea how he can run around with that thing- let alone play it! Amazing!

  • @fasted27 Must have been nice to meet Rick

  • @raywagman yah, all 28 pounds of it. Of course its gonna be simple to play.

  • @raywagman not only is it light, but it fits in a manila envelope :p

  • Hey carpet dude, go stick at carpet tack in your typing finger so we don't have to see your idiot comments. Put your Barry Manilow album back on and go back in the basement until mom has your snack ready.

  • That is not a guitar is a piece of wall

  • oh my god for how many years does that stage was used? it was the same they used in 1993 1994 and 1995 selena's concerts in the rodeos...

  • it was used for a while!

  • rick is kinda eatin it on some parts.

  • i think that this is just dumb. cheap trick is good at covering songs, but sucks at writing. and i can tell here that they sped up during the song. how would you even be able to reach the bottom neck? i can deal with 2 neck guitars, but 5 is just stupid.

  • The 5 necks is a gimmick dude...

  • @killer8694

Oh you're just a hatin, fuckin asshole! Shut up, no one wants to here you!!!

It's called being fun, you little emo fuck!!! Just shut the fuck up and enjoy! If you don't like it then go wash the sand out of your pussy.

Don't be jealous just because they rock and people love them and you're a miserable little piece of shit!!! You're just a typical little bitch!!!

  • Horror...

  • I've seen these guys a bunch of times and there's no mics turned down or non-tuned guitars. Rick Neilsen sings when he wants, that's just how it is. They have fun. No one notice the 8-string bass? That's why it sounds like 2 guitars and a bass.

  • good comment but one correction thats a 12-string bass not an 8-string

  • man there must be like nobody there because the houston astrodome is HUGE, either that or the crowd is just terrible

  • I agree...If Nielson has all five necks tuned up, that would be one heavy guitar. It would have to handle the tension of 30 strings

  • @bibliac- Correction: 36 'always tuned' strings. 1st neck is a 12-string, the rest are 6 string guitars. In one of the interviews, CT guitar technician Dave said that although he hates the 5-neck monster but just the same, he does his job with a smile (hehe, doing 36 strings? I could imagine!) BTW, the CT's 5-neck guitar is the only one existing in the world. Afterall, Rick Nielsen is one helluva guitar collector.

  • I thought Rick had two, 5 neck guitars. Just read that Phish Frankenstein used a 5-neck at a concert and saw the photo.

Yes, rick has a cool collection of guitars.

  • he has the orange one, the checkerboard one (after he retired the orange one) and he had another made, but I've never seen it in a concert.

  • Cool. I'll be on the lookout for that. :)

  • The band puts on an awesome show. Rick Nielson is funny, like Townshend used to be with the Who. Was so into the show that he had no clue how to sing a whole part on mic. Sound guy probably had him turned off or there would be suddenly two words heard and then nothing. Great performance.

  • Rick Nielesen IS GREATTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This would have been a great concert. Why did they have to cancel???? Boo Hoo!!!

  • CT very rarely cancels. Even when Rick lost a close family member, he went on stage that night. Unfortunately, they are human and humans get sick and stuff happens.

  • want that guitar

  • The tour was canceled....BOOOOO!

  • now thats a guitar!

  • Robin THE Brit?? What is that all about?

  • Comment removed

  • OMG!!!! Thank you for posting this! I was there! It seems like yesterday watching this. They were awesome, it is just you use to have to sit so far away from the stage you really couldn't see. Now it's like a front row seat to a 20 year old concert! Too cool!

  • surrender but don't give yourself away.. ( whats that supposed to mean? )

  • - trust but keep your integrity

  • Give in a little but, not all the way.

  • I enjoy thw GMC salute part:) peace & love Mad Town

  • That was nice footage.

  • awesome song and wow @ rick, that guitar must be fuckin heavy, ive got the double neck sg and i struggle with that, cant imagine 5 necks...

  • the several guitars in one is purely for show. why is that so hard to understand? it's rock n roll!

  • 1. I love Cheap Trick.

    2. Dude, seriously, what's with the guitar necks?

  • this video says 1989...but Rick's t-shirt says 2000..... ??? Ehhh??? I would think it is a 2000 Cheap Trick tour, no...??

  • well, they are futuristic ya know ;) and what about we/re all alright - reminds me of the Seventies Show - how about you?

  • Rick use to wear T-shirts that counted back from the year 2000 like, 2000 - 11. So, that would be 1989.

  • makenya berapa neck tuh, yg di intronya suara gitar apa keyboard?

  • ok seriously why do you need that many necks?

  • Each neck has a different function. Like, one is a 6-string, one may be a 12-string, one is fretless, etc.

  • i can imagine how heavy that guitar must be.....

  • Beast guitar

  • THAT GUITAR IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the drummer looks 50 years older then the other guys

  • Actually, only Robin is younger than Bun E.

  • ur right he does

  • Bun looks good. What's important is that he's a kick A** drummer. He can play both right and left handed, too.

  • It helps that like Ringo, he's a lefty playing righty.

  • You're kind of stupid.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank god they fired the keyboard player in later years...

  • So thats why no other bands play guitars with five necks. I hope this guy plays better when hes holding a normal guitar ...

  • are you a moron or never heard of cheap trick

  • Hey Stupid....put away the Katy Perry and My Chemical Romance CDs for a bit before you make stupid comments about one of the better bands to EVER come out of the 70s.

"This guy" is Rick Nielson. Do some research, you Jonas Bros-listening imbecile.

  • You've never heard of Cheap Trick? Jeeeeez. Get out of the basement someday buddy. There's more to life than Miley Cyrus videos.

  • This is a great Surrender and it rocks! This song has been covered by many bands and none of them come close to being this good. I think Rick does more than fine on this, lol!

  • Rick said that, that five-necker is a pretty heavy sucker. I'm surprised at how he held the thing above his head.

  • Not 1989 idiots ..try 1999....christ yoll parents had not even reached puberty when i saw them in 1978 the Live at Budokan year...your bedtime

  • Today is 09-09-OO9. big whoop!

  • if thats in 1989 lol why they got shirt that says 2000 O.o 5/5 great song
