  • Your story is truly inspiring. It's amazing how much the human body can endure...

Thank you for coming to Karen's! I was so impacted by your story that I am going to purchase your book sometime in the very near future. :)

  • @RAWRitsRoyal

I am so glad that you are a part of Karen's class and that we could share this with you...and thank you for taking the time to make such a heartfelf comment...it means a lot to us...Gayle

  • Roytoy...thank you for your concern...Devin is thriving this year...doing well in his last year of college...great girlfriend!

  • I hope you are doing better. So sorry to hear about your pain.

And even after all... your biggest worry was your son. You are a wonderful mother.

  • My heart cries.... I am so glad you are alive.... and you are looking great and walking. Wow you son grew up to be hansom young man and you must be proud.... and I know he is proud of you... You must know you taught him so much, not to give up.... God bless.

  • @gmcjetpilot Thank you for you kind words...the book is going to the publisher very soon!! A nine year labor of love!

  • Who cares that it was a teenager? The problem is that this person decided to drive tired. Needless age bigotry is depicted here, and it detracts from the real problem that caused this particular accident.

  • @KadeshSa This is not "needless age bigotry"...it's simple fact...the accident was caused by a teenager...just the facts!

  • Maybe a total OnStar control of the vehicle is needed.

What % of teenagers get in accidents?

Anyway, if you want to be safe, get a welder and some good seamless tubing.

Weld up a strong 12 point rollcage, a proper seat and a good restraint harness system.

Better to have bent tubes than fractured boneys.

    Helmets wrok sometimes too.

And who carries a fire extinguisher.

That's to gay as well ?

  • Your sooo welcome! It was our pleasure. Our son slept through Dave's at Taconic because the teacher was so boring and didn't care. You are so fortunate to have Karen. SHE"S making a difference!

  • i was in one of those drivers ed classes :) yesterday haha thank you gayle and jess

  • This needs to be shown in EVERY Driver's Ed Calss in EVERY High School in THe USA!!!

  • Thank you...we would LOVE that to happen...we are presenting to one driver's ed class each month in our area and the response is VERY positive...we also have written a book which we would like to have as required reading in classes for offenders...if you have any other ideas, let us know...Gayle

  • just a copy for you :) just my opinion

WRONG what kid listens or even pays attention to vids these days teen pregnancy just keeps climbimng and etc. what they need it to watch this film and the people in which this happened to including the kids if they survived needs to walk onto stage and say ANY QUESTIONS allow them to see and hear it show the real scars let them ask the teens prob now adults why and if they would have done something different like sleep lol. then they will pay attention.

  • It makes such a big difference to have people who are passionate come in to present. The memory lingers on and effects decisions in a positive way...so you're RIGHT!

  • i dont feel its right or wrong im just givin a legitimate idea i mean what if i was wrong maybe the kids now days do listen. we both know they dont lol just that i domt think there is a right or wrong in this realy just the fact that it is being done to show these kids what has happened what happens and what could happen. if you understand what i mean. either way it is right lol just for some kids that are oppisite i am wrong as well.

  • God Bless you always. you are so brave.

  • Thank you so much.

  • i blame with the american cars, so poorly put together with no care

  • you are right and wrong its not just american cars its just american standards on cars. our japanese cars have about the same ratings some do better some do worse. fact is if we had better standards thicker steel like back in the day it wouldnt be so bad i think i mean take a 1985 mercury grand marquise decent size car can stand up to a head on better than a kia i would put money on that thicker steal but take same 85 car with thick steal yet the calapsable front end like they do now lots better

  • so your saying that a 85 mercury grand marquise can stand up better to a kia head on, i think i agree with you

  • i hope all is good for you now. sorry to see what hapend.

  • Thanks so much...life certainly isn't what it used to be, but we are trying tomake the most of what IS!

  • powerful video, thanks for sharing.

  • Your positive feedback was wonderfully timed. Gayle had just come home from a third surgery on her right arm and wrist. She feels best when she knows that her experience has touched someone in a meaningful way. Have a great new year!

  • A surgery or two a year on average and constant pain, but she manages to walk a bit, ride horseback once a month and kayak occasionally. Her spirits are amazing all considered. Once a month she goes to a driving school to share her experience with the student drivers. Thank you for asking. Our best to you.

  • 2 much love speech.... y are mothers SOOOOOOO protective, love, kiss ,hug every 5 seconds? let ppl live their lives....

sorry to be harsh but its the truth.... hope she gets better do :)

  • Thank you for your good wishes. As for mothers, you spoke YOUR truth. Gayle spoke HERS. You have to BE a mother to understand. Devin was only twelve! We never stop feeling protective. She turned the car to protect him. She chose to put her body between the truck and her son.

  • And how is she managing, nowadays?

  • i sincerely hope she is allright and her son too, and why not, the teenager

  • Gayle has made a beautiful life around her choices, her pain, and her new found disabilities. Devin also thrives. Lionel is well also, has graduated from college and has a great job. Life is good.

  • The theruputic riding stable that I ride at (just for regular lessons) helps disabled people so much... it helps them feel more cofident and stronger... :-)... it's a great place and I'm glad Gayle got to exspeirence the feeling of riding there...it helped her so much...

  • Thank you for your positive comment...Gayle's had two surgeries on her arm in the last year and hasn't been able to ride until 2 weeks ago...she is SOOOO happy to be Back In The Saddle Again...it is what got her out of the wheelchair...keep riding!

  • thanks! im always gonna keep riding! i'm glad shes back in the saddle! would you mind telling me wich horses she rides?

  • At Equus in Williamstown, Gayle rode Saint, Mirage and Sweet Pea. Now she has found two wonderful women at Blythewood, Elizabeth and Suzuka. Do you ride at Equus?

  • Oh yes. I know Saint and Mirage... but I haven't seen Sweet Pea at all...hmm. Yes I ride at Equus occasionally...I also sometimes help with the theruputic riders by leading the horse around.

  • Gayle could go on and on about her horses and what they have done for her. There is a whole chapter in her book on their contribution to her healing. Ride ON!

  • Enlighten us, please!

  • so much destroyed by a stupid move by only one person

  • Yes, indeed. But that's why it's called an accident. We all make mistakes. Some are costlier than others. Thank you for your support.

  • I hope you also are continuing to heal...it is a never ending journey...be well...

  • Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words. We hope the best for you and your family as well.

  • Melodramatic??? Have you any ideal whats its live to have to learn how to walk again?? I do. I watch this twice and it brought tears to my eyes. i saw a mother that chose to maybe give up her live to save her child. I made that same decision 8 years ago. So anyone who thinks that this is melodramatic really doesnt understand the pain until they go through it. Bless u and your family

  • i'm truly in awe of your spirit. i'm hoping you do find a way to publish your book...i'd like to read it entirely. God bless you and your family - it's clear that you did not go thru this alone!

  • What a moronic thing to say. You get hit by a truck and nearly die and try to live in spite of 123 places in your body breaking, being pinned by a steering wheel and the bumper of that truck, knowing that you might die in front of your child who's foot is hanging off his leg and THEN tell me that what Gayle has gone through and how we presented this is melodramatic. What a thoughtless twit!

  • no clue why you are so insensitive plasmaslug - seems like you need attention. it's a shame!

  • Bless your heart. A real trooper. Someone was watching over you. God Bless.

  • Thank you for your kind comments. Blessings to you.

  • made me cry, i feel for all invovled.

we have MADD. fine group, but many People are hurt or killed by tired drivers. i dont see how we can make a law to stop that.

god bless you! i pray for things to get better

  • those who don't have someone to call are encouraged to call Karen, call me, or establish a relationship with someone they trust...we are there to help...we are here for you as well if you would like to talk more...I can give you my email and talk privately...please know that there is cause and effect...to blame Lionel's parents and his school is the same as if we blamed him, and we don't...blessing to you...Jess

  • I think you need to know from HIM that we do not blame him and we do not hate him and we are NOT putting his face in the dirt...once a month we go to Karen's School of Driving and talk about the accident and ask new drivers if they have someone to call when they shouldn't be driving, whether drunk, stoned, or tired...

  • it was hard at first having Lionel in our faces, especially hard for our kids, but we soon learned a lot about his character, his talents, and his life...since graduating from college, I asked him if he would be part of the book we were writing and he easily agreed and followed through...please write to him yourself...

  • the teenager did not make a poor decision he was forced to drive tired from being pushed around by school and his parents

its a poor decision to blame a teen for anything

you need to learn to properly respect people

  • What a terrible thing to say. Even Lionel admits that it was a poor decision. The judge awarded his community time directly to Gayle, so we got to know him. He is a fine young man.We are all accountable for our. He chose to allow the pressure to effect his judgement.

  • its always the teens fault huh? its called bad luck

look Ive had teenage friends of mine kill themselves over pressure at school and when you are stressed you can't think straight

and I bet he was told to think if was a bad choice

I hope one day he realizes people are putting his face in the dirt.

Also what I said was not terrible it was a taste of reality

i didn't say the other victims deserved this! quit making assumptions

you must realize Teens are people to and should be treated so

  • LightAge...you sound very hurt and angry...I am sorry for your pain...I hope you find peace...as for all of this, you seem to think that blame was placed...it was NOT...the judge wanted to send Lionel to jail as is the standard...Gayle asked that this not happen...she said "no good would come from it."...that is why the judge gave Lionel's community service directly to Gayle and did not send him to jail...

  • omg this just made me cry. i wish you both the best. and the kid at the end i dont know his name but i went to school with him.

  • His name is Devin. He wouldn't get out of the car until they got his mother breathing. I have known him since he was three. He is wonderful! Thank you for watching. Please spread the word. We're hoping to make a publisher connection.

  • i will. and i saw him last night at the semi.

  • He LOVES to dance. Hope you had a good time, too!

  • Wish the mother and son both a peaceful and loving '08, live on!

  • Thank you for your good wishes.

  • Those are the best kind of wishes. Thank you.
