  • Hi, I have a Jackson Js32 but I don't have much knowledge abaut using the whammy bar.Someone told me that when I use the bar in one direction, I should slightly push it the opposite way afterwards to keep tune.Is this true? Do you think I should?

  • omg its Justin lee Collins! :L

  • so how do i fix it when my whammy bar mess up my guitar :(?

  • and also i was thinking of buying ibanez s-series guitar next, too bad they are god damn expensive

  • I was always wondering why it was so hard to push my whammy bar down on my stratocaster, now i know why, thanks :D

  • i owned a 1970s strat, cherry red, black panel, maple neck, no whammy bar. There was no whammy at all, and there never had been one (no lie)

  • Good education, thanks for posting.

  • Very good Instrctional Vido. Good teacher. I didnt realize it was because of the nut that it goes out of tune like that. I thought it was a differant reason all together. Is that an opinion or fact? Also it was refreshing to go over some of the basics which you cover very well. I know what its like trying to explain the guitar to poeple; since it is so tedious and so exacting. Well done.!

  • Anybody who has a Strat & wants to upgrade it, should checkout the Super-Vee. It's easy to install, has all the features of the best double lockin' vibrato systems & looks superb. Anyway i must continue playin' with my widdle stick

...........my whammy bar that is (u smut monsters)

  • Lockin' systems can be great but the original Fender system has the tonal edge....it has a richer sound. The sustain block is chunkier & the bridge makes more contact with the guitar body. Innotation is alot easier to setup. Theres something really cool about pullin' out extra performance from vintage hardware. To get the best out of non-lockin' vibratos check out 'Frudua' on Youtube....this guy is a guitar tech & knows his guitars in'n'out. Otherwise keep on clampin' them nuts.

  • You know, that's one of the best ( and funniest ) comments I've received. Much thanks!

  • No problem, tar very much me old gent. By the way i like the first guitar - the Strat - the other 2 ain't too shabby either. But the HSS Strat is a real beauty.

  • Locking nut is <3 just got an Ibanez, I never have to tune if i dive the whammy bar, if you love whammy bars, get a locking nut.

  • so what this video or what your telling us is that any guitar you get even with the locking system can still untune right? because i have an ibanez rg and it whammys great wehn i go down but it over times abit when i whammy up

  • Not being funny dude, you don't need the lock nut system at the headstock if you don't want it. Sorry if you already know that.

  • does the locking nut prevent your guitar from going out of tune when you use ur whammy bar?

  • Yes If its a quality system, it won't go out of tune at all and you can dive the bar all the way down.

  • yep yep yep

  • Ibanez´s edge and lo pro edge are licensed bridges, they are somewhat similar to the OFR and ORF pro, the edge pro came out in 2003 and then the edgezero in 2008

  • this vid was just what i was looking for, info on whammy bars. My current guitar doesnt have one, but i will soon be getting a strat style guitar with the 1st whammy system there. thanks for the vid man.

  • u are awsome

    thanx for the vids

    they help alot :)

  • Glad I could help, Mason. Thanks for subscribing.

  • the trem-king was Duane Eddy dude. some Strats have a hardtail. mixed luck with kahlers? they suck, cause you can't bend the strings.

and yes, the edge is actually pretty different from the floyd.

  • Correction sir, your Ibanez isn't a floyd, its the Edge tremolo, all Ibanez's have inky Edge's.

  • Hey, WD -

You're somewhat splitting hairs here since the original Edge series were mostly Floyd Rose systems.

  • yeh the jem guitars and iv seen alot of early ibanez guitars that have floyd roses

  • From Wikipedia

"Floyd Rose Licensed are made by other manufacturers that have purchased a license from Floyd Rose. These model generally follow the designs of the Floyd Rose Original, but tend to deviate slightly from the original for the manufacturing process to be more cost-efficient. Most licensed companies use the same design that makes their parts inter-changeable between any two licensed tremolos, but not the Floyd Rose Original. "

  • Wiki Continued:

"The bridges of such systems are clearly engraved "Licensed under Floyd Rose Patents" and Floyd Rose does not offer any customer support for them. Construction quality of Floyd Rose Licensed tremolos may be compromised due to the cost-efficient techniques, but the reliability of licensed models that match the price of originals are usually high, whereas cheaper variations are often of lower quality as they would have used cheaper manufacturing processes."

  • So while it's not a "pure" Floyd Rose system, it definitely shares most of it's DNA with Floyd Rose, especially in that late 80's, which is when I bought that guitar.

In fact, it was called a "Floyd Rose" system by the guy who sold it to me.

Ibanez later strayed away from the FR design with Edge Pro and Edge III.

  • Spencer, you are so cute!!!!

  • im getting an ibanez rg with a edge III tremolo system, do you know anything about them?

  • No, unfortunately. Ibanez has really built a name for itself in the metal/shredder category of guitars so it wouldn't surprise me for it to have a good system built on to it.

As I remember (it was late 80's) my system came with floyd rose on it, which I've found to be solid and dependable. I would think that Ibanez would only place quality tremolo bars on their guitars.

But get back to me and let me know how you like it!
