  • Chicago is so much larger than the R&R HOF could be. This group was and is still the greatest band to ever be brought together even with the member changes over the years. Their music was work of art and genius esp compared to the trite stuff that is thought of as music today. They should have their own museum. I know it would be great. Long Live Chicago

  • Peter sings the high notes and plays the low notes; Terry sings the low notes and plays the high notes.

  • @MishuTaste a simple thought that never occurred to me ----thanks. Weird, but just recently after seeing them live so many yrs ago--40+, i see how awesome Peter was too. Ya wanted have a high low or a low high--an aloaha. love the 'Glennspeed50's' Telekathster

  • Pretty fancy stage set up. You can see the "machine" that Chicago became as Terry's wife talked about years later.

  • brings a tear to my eye.

  • Wish I could have been there!

  • was that cetera on bass?

  • @TheIrishlad12 Yes. He was a very underrated bass player.

  • you dislike this you are a complete idiot. saw them omaha 71 and 75.

  • We can change the world now.

  • first time I saw a linebacker lead a team : )

  • @1i1feat Have you ever seen Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher, Patrick Willis... they make great leaders

  • @upyanuts Sorry, I was making a rhetorical statement ; )

  • If Chicago came from British invasion, i guarantee they would be in the HOF, but i believe there is some jealuousy involved right in our own backyard. Chicago could have their own structure filled with wings of memorabilia enough to fill the current HOF building. It truly is a farce!

  • This tune is "Hip" defined!

  • why is this band not in the rock and hall museum?

  • Everyone loves Cetera & Kath. To continue the franchise you have to use new people.

  • bad video quality.

  • 68beano, i like your stance, we seem to be on the same page here, but man, slip me some acid after reading that grammatically atrocious stanza you wrote. Rock on dude!!

  • Liberals even have no place in music, they think they have the answer to all the world's problems. Oh, did i mention a bunch of liberal assholes from Rolling Stone magazine dictate who gets into the RR hall of shame? What a SHAM! Chicago should have their own wing!!

  • @tmg1968 we were to young when this band were playing night after night to young to understand the impact the world lost a pioneer hunter axe welder terry kath the man on the SG Standard or jammin' on the Telecaster!! spot on the hall of shame, what a joke rolling stone mag. ditto give me circus, creem, rip mags. uncut mojo classic rock good mags. to much money, Put rock back in the rock n roll hall of fame!!!

  • r&r hall has madonna, what more is needed.......to show what a bunch of bullshit this farce is. think about it. No ELP, Yes, Jethro Tull and myriad more. It is a total commercial sham

  • I was at this concert at the Summit in Houston. I was a Houston cop working security that night. Terry Kath was a real gentleman. I saw every artist there was and most of them were assholes but Terry Kath was very cool. He invited me into the dressing room and met all the band. Got an autographed set of Slinky strings from Terry and NO I WON'T SELL THEM.

  • Fender needs to issue the Terry Kath Telecaster in his honor.

  • @GlennSpeed50 Good comment, my friend. "Telekathster" maybe? :)

  • @juantoletemex Love it!!

  • @GlennSpeed50 I would buy one 200% :)

  • @GlennSpeed50 amen

  • @GlennSpeed50 Yes great comment. How about Telecaster TK Custom Shop.

  • GREAT guitar solo...shit, he was good.

  • i witnessed "CHICAGO" perform this amazing song @ Madison Square Garden, New York City a month earlier that same year! =o]

  • @ eteachout. What do you mean Terry looks to be in really bad shape physically? So Terry has a little weight on him, nothing wronge with that. You don't know what you are talking about. Terry looks fantastic!! He always did. Long Live Terry!!

  • Fantastic, it brings back sweet memories, even after 33 years!!!!

  • AS GOOD AS IT GETS RIP TERRY

  • For me, there is no Chicago after Chicago V.

Ok, to be fair, I think VI was the last vinyl I bought... Granted there are select moments on some of their later stuff. I guess "Stone of Sisyphus" is about as close as they've gotten to those sonic elements that really drew me to them in the first place.

  • My first Chicago concert was in 1977 at The Chicago Stadium. I was 14. I believe they opened with Liberation and then went into Dialogue.

  • TERRY WAS AS GOOD AS IT GETS RIP

  • Thank you for uploading this. I was too young to go to their concerts but now that I'm an "old coot" I love watching them and wished I'd have been 5 yr's older. I'd be in the front row wishing I had a matching hockey jersey, I dated a hockey player, does that count? Love Terry's voice, talent the brass , all of them, but thyr'e still alive, we wouldn't miss Terry if he was alive, we'd continue to enjoy al of his music...so Mis what could've been wonderful future music, let us keep this

  • Not only one of my favorite Chicago tunes - but an all-time favorite song. Terry Kath's death was a HORRIBLE blow to those of us earlier Chicago fans. I had every single one of their albums. When he died, I lost interest. Anyhow, thanks for sharing this - I can't imagine where the hell you ever found it! LOL Oh, yeah - the lyrics of this are just as relevant today as they were in the early 70s.

  • Sadly, TK would be dead 3 months after this tremendous performance..R I P TK, the greatest white soul singer/guitarist ever....he had more soul in his little pinky than any poseurs since.

  • Unfortunately, I'm afraid we will never hear an era of music like this again which is so sad !!!!!

  • Terry Kath is great. Thanks for keeping his memory alive.

  • I'm not putting todays music down or nothing, but common, is there anything even close to this these days?!?

  • Fuckin Terry Kath,,,what a beast

  • This was awesome. I've never seen this performance before. Though I actually did see them live in 1977 as a teen.

It was great how much it showed Terry's guitar playing up close and personal.

    Fantastic!

  • fiamike -- Well said!! TERRY IS A NATIONAL TREASURE!! Thank God for Juantoletemex and others who are keeping his memory alive for us. When I watch these videos I think of the "good times" when I actually was blessed enough to see him and the original CHICAGO live. If I close my eyes I can believe that he is still with us, still rockin' us! That's what amazing music can do for you! Cheers!

  • Terry Kath, you have been my hero!

    You gave me power.

  • WE MISS YOU TERRY 32 YEARS

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with you MrRickyz. When Cetera, Seraphine and Kath left the group, it was a fatal blow to the group. The sound diminished, along with their record sales and popularity. Very sad and unfortunate for such a legendary group of the 70's & mid eighties.

  • Terry Kath in( bad shape as someone written below) , with Cetera, seraphine in drums and the brass trio are CHICAGO the one and only. this band doesn't exist anymore. maybe a little bit a mirage. since the bland Jason Sheff got in the band Chicago is not anymore.....

  • On the merits of the Terry Kath era (69-77) ALONE, Chicago should be in the Hall of Fame.

  • TOTALLY AGREED. You can`t tell me that 2010 inductees Abba belong in the same concert hall with these guys. Makes me madder than hell.

  • @dillwankster I hope the RRHOF isn't refusing consideration due to Terry Kath's suicide. Too bad Terry felt that he had to end his life.

Perhaps RRHOF has gotten too used to having BJ favors done to selection committee members before consideration takes place.

It could really be high time to create a Pop music HOF. Much of Popular music isn't really rock at all, at least, not in the way I think of rock music. Van Halen, rock music. Chicago , Pop music. Tom Petty, Pop. Pantera, Rock.

  • @DancingSpiderman i guess i hear the music differently than you... if Terry Kath isn't rock n roll then i dont know what is. Sure, Chicago 17 and Chicago 19 and couple others were pop studio CDs, but im guessing you've never heard them live from 1989-1993 with Dawayne Bailey... the band reminded me of guns n' roses quite honestly... and guns is my favorite band, Chicago 2nd favorite... Alice in Chains 3rd favorite, Van Halen 4th... Led Zep 5th... Black Sab 6th... thats just the way i hear it.

  • @dredayak18 Good choices for your lineup, and I respect your comments.

It IS all about the music.

(Holding up your goblet of favorite drinking liquid) Here's to 70's Chicago: Kath, Seraphine, and yes, Cetera too, Lamm, and the 3 men on horns. And Laudir de Oliveira. Thank you guys.

  • @DancingSpiderman salute my friend... some other great later vids with dawayne bailey.... check out 1992 your not alone - great ending solo.... and from greek theater 1993 .... searchin so long, the pull, just you n me, make me smile, look away were GREAT versions.... check out to the 1969 fillmore west concert.... that is some of the best stuff ive heard from terry and the band of old... buts its all good really.

  • @dredayak18 Thanks, I'll check those vids out.

  • @DancingSpiderman 70's Chicago is for sure some of the best music ever made, and it DEFINITELY isn't pop music, and does anybody really care about Chicago being nominated into the RRHOF... i certainly could care less... I bet the band members feel the same way... its just all about the music.

  • @dillwankster : i agree! =o]

  • Terry taught me how to play back in the day.

  • Terry looks in really bad shape physically here, but he always played and sang terrific.

  • I tend to agree eteachout. He was a natural and was better than most guitarists, even on a bad day!!!

  • Man, that is some good stuff.

  • Please, somebody tell me why these guys, along with the Doobies and the moody Blues are not in the R&R Hall of Fame- look at who is in there and tell me with a straight face that the above three are not good enough- travesty!!!

  • Because the R&R Hall of Fame is the biggest farce , bullshit, fucking political shit that will never recognize the true, irreplaceable bands of the '60's and '70's...... end of story.

  • just like the Grammy's, The Academy Awards, and all of that other crap

  • @bds1167 : ooooh yeah! x0[]

  • @bds1167 I couldn't agree more.

Just look at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll." There's not a single song by Chicago on that list ... yet the list does include the likes of "Benny and the Jets" by Elton John and "Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel.

    End of story indeed.

  • @bds1167 ...well, you would think there was some kinda order...older, classic bands first, then the newer bands...not the case...the credibility of the place is a joke...and they could've done it in chronological order...but that doesn't sell to the N00b fans...Where's Alice...!!??!!

  • It really is. Rush, Yes, Genesis, and Journey are not either.

  • Neither is Heart! Frickin' numbskulls!

  • TK......Wow!!

  • Terry was without question a great and humble person. When he came to Mexico in 1975 he approache people as if he was not a star, still miss ya so much. Danny you are still Chicago's drummer whatever Jason sheff says!

  • Can't stand to watch the new version of Chicago. Only these guys can lay it down, and without Terry, they are a dance band, So sorry............

  • Sadly, Terry was dead about three months after this concert. How sad. But he was pretty messed up at this point.

Probably the most underrated guitarist of his generation. And the dude could sing, too.

  • Terry Kath, I never really appreciated what a great guitar player until too late. He was one of Jimi Hendrix's favorites, he was right on.........

  • Let's face it...every video we have of the late, great Terry Kath is a national treasure. Nobody can fill those shoes.

  • The original line up was incredible, virtuosos Terry Kath and Danny Seraphine, Robert Lamm on keyboards, the horn section and Peter Cetera vocals. Doesn't get much better than that! James William Guercio had a good product and they delivered for a long time. I guess they still tour with newcomers but it will NEVER be as good as the originals. Used to listen for hours to Terry Kath playing "Free Form Guitar" and singing along with this song Dialogue. Great tune, relevant then and now!

  • dude dawayne is sick, but terry is terry come on . anybody can fingertap n play with a wammy bar, kinda like me

  • bs.......

  • Whatever you're smokin', you're doing way to much!!

  • Just check out how funky and smooth the guitar intro is.

  • great song, unfortunately, they were never the same after Terry's death. RIP

  • terry would be dead in 3 months...what a crying shame...

  • wow increible terry kath

  • Howland better than Kath??? You're joking? right? If not you definatley need to invest in a Miracle Ear.

  • Happy 63rd B-day Terry 1/31/09 RIP

  • This song shows the best 3 singers ever and As far as Howland being better than Terry, get real.I started playing guitar after the first time I saw Chicago in 1971 at the L.A. Forum and still do. I have yet to find a better guitar player than Terry.

  • Howlands and Kaths styles are not on the same level. Kath was a groundbreaker in guitar. Hendrix said that Kath was the best guitarist of all time. Howland might be able to play but its not the soul... not the passion like Kath. Not even close.

  • Howland is better than Terry? Howland gives it a good try, but he couldn't carry Terry's guitar let alone play as good as Terry.

  • God I miss Terry

  • You are kidding, right?

  • Sorry, this is in reply to Bassguyddave seeing them @ Richfield Coleseum...

    Clarity IS a good thing ! :)

  • Let's keep the stream going ! lol

Saw them the night after ( Halloween ) at

Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario... Terry went nuts and pulled out a stellar five minute solo near the end of this tune , and had the crowd screaming for more...

Over 30 years later , that performance still stands out as one of the most special moments i've had the pleasure of experiencing.

Still missed and highly regarded , Terry...

    RIP

  • I would love to have witnessed that. I saw Chicago twice and Terry was lost in the mix and in the shadows for most of both shows. I would have loved to see him step out like that.

Pete's laying downa killer bas line in this version too.

  • great group, terry kath very underrated gifted singer/guitarist.

  • I have seen many groups over the years, but I never got to see Chicago. I was in high school when they first came out. Recently I had the chance to see them and did not go. I am sure they still put on a very good show. Somehow, without peter and terry, It just doesnt seem like the same group. Thats not fair to the band, but hey...

  • All I've read about Terry was he was gentle, kind, open. Seems with all of the anger and hate you may have missed who he was. Read "The Prophet", his favorite book.

  • Thanks, Dave (presumably). It's nice to know I haven't lost my mind - or at least my memory.

  • Thanks for posting...killer performance by Terry Kath...one of the most underrated guitarists, ever.

  • Terry took things seriously. Thats what made him a soulful guitarist and singer.Thats what made him great! The Dialogue as written is the contrast between a troubled and concerned young man questioning the morality and motives of the country he loves, and the happy go-lucky silver spoon fed college boy unconcerned as to (pardon the reference) "State of the Union". Terry was an awesome talent and ty for sharing his legacy. Now if the vulgarity was absent from these comments, my son could see.

  • All in all still one of the best songs of a fantastic period in US history! And yeah I am old enough to remember it...

  • Terry was my Idol growing up as a kid. I go aroung teaching kids to stay off drugs(yes alcohol is a drug)and use Terry as one of my examples. Stay safe/stay sober!

    Peace, TKATH Forever.

  • He took the clip out of his pistol and forgot there was a round in the chamber. He jokingly aimed it at his head and boom.

  • He wasn't joking--he was reassuring the person there that there was nothing to worry about because that 9mm had a history of having a hair trigger.

  • Why Terry Die?

  • He accidentally shot himself while cleaning one of his guns.

  • and they are ALL great musicians

  • i'm 55 and loved the originals,but i like the line-up now better,especially with Dawayne Bailey

  • Dwayne is no longer with the band, he left in 1995 replaced by Keith Howland.

  • Uhh..,are you insane,sir !?!? The new line-up ? Are you Dawaynes Dad ? or brother ?

    The originals are way better.

  • That is Chicago...not the guys that are playing now..with all due respect to the 4 original ones... but they did very laim and bad selection with the new guys...Scheff sings good, but they are no musicians...Imboden??? Scheff as Bass player? Champlin? with that little fake wanna be "Kath" voice!? man...just laim...

  • Certainly no one could possibly "replace" Terry Kath...he's one in a billion. But, in all due respect, you should check your history. Mr. Champlin developed his singing style long before Chicago ever had a recording contract...mainly influenced by the likes of Lou Rawls & others. I'm grateful that the "originals" have chosen to continue on all these years later!

  • Agree!Imboden was great with Kenny Loggins. I am a big fan of his,but the originals are always the best version of anything.Cats gotta eat but the new guys are just that, the NEW guys. P.S.can someone please smack the shit outta that ego insensed "bone" player. Danny was way more the sound of chicago than your predictable horn lines that you can see coming from around the block. You kicking Danny out was absurd!Did he fuck your wife ? If he did,I get it,if not go fuck yourself!

  • wait a minute ,, in which year terry kath died? wasnt it 1977??

  • Jan 1978

  • It is impossible to play "Russian Roulette" with a 9mm and clip. And it was an ACCIDENT. I can't believe you NEVER made a single mistake in your life that alter the course of your life. A mistake is a mistake. Calling Terry a name is not only immature but wrong. Perhaps you should put down the rock and exit your glass house before someone, preferably you, gets hurt. I really hope you're not Irish cause you're giving the rest of us a BAD NAME!!!

  • Great song! Great Message! Great Band!

  • Chicago rocks!!!

  • This is a great song. Chicago's best work was their first and second albums. Things were never quite as good after that.

  • What about III? What about V? What about VII? What about XI?

  • I was at this concert in the Summit, my first. I was 16. It gives me chills looking at it now 30 years later. I seem to recall they opened with "Dialogue" after the orchestral interlude version of TK's "Little One", complete with (sadly) a disco ball. Juan, where did you get these videos? Also, I don't recall if they performed "Little One" that night as they were touring in support of XI, but if they did, do you have footage of their performance of that now poignant song?

  • Sorry, I don't have it...yet. Thanks for posting!

  • wow!-terry kath sounds like he's loaded, but cetera sounds great

  • He also could have been tired or ill. Every sub-par performance is not always a substance abuse problem.

  • Agreed but supposedly Kath was on a 3 day cocaine and booze high when he shot himself and Lamm's stories about taking their 737 jet across the country only to score more coke were about this time. Terry without drugs, amazing. Terry on drugs or something is disappointing. And I think Terry is one of the overall most talented musicians EVER. Singer, guitarist, songwriter, bandleader, etc.

  • Five to one Terry was also depressed which leads to "binge eating". He was unhappy. Drugs didn't help. His weight fluctuated heavily in ten years so it could have been a whole cartload of things that became one problem. But I don't know a whole lot of overweight coke addicts. Since you don't know what was happening in Terry's personal life or head please refrain from "narrating" what you think is the truth.

  • Hey Clown, just let things be. Let's enjoy the music and vibes. We don't need to hear your bull s#it. No need to turn-the-knife. The man put out some great music, period. There's a lot of what if's and I knows, ... all a bunch of cr@p. Just enjoy.

  • I have to agree with flashpenguin86's last statement "Since you don't know what was happening in Terry's personal life or head please refrain from "narrating" what you think is the truth." And bed wetting Nancy boy, come on, go back down into your parents basement, teen chat rooms and pretend your a 15-year old girl, not a 47-year old loser. Enough said.

  • Not one of my favorites from Chicago, but excellent live rendition. Powerful vocals from Peter Cetera. He is one of my vocalisic idols. It's hard to sing notes like that man can. Cant forget about the original Terry Kath. May he rest in peace.

  • (((((sigh))))))

  • thanks for video.

  • Hey! You left out Robert Lamm. Shame on you!

The sound quality on the playback is wonderful. Peter's bass line is killer. I'd love to have a shread of that man's talent on the instrument.

Proud Fan of Chicago 1969 thru 1984.

    The 'Cetera' Era.

  • Hey juantoletemex.

Nothin' better than Chi's original lineup!

Peter Cetera, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider, Lee Loughane, Terry Kath, and Danny Seraphine!!

Would love to see more of this concert!

    -Angel-

  • Wow. Always enjoyed the back and forth singing from Kath and Cetera. Cetera's thumping that bass line. He's makin' that thing dance! This is great!

    Many thanks, juantoletemex.

    -Angel-

  • Oh yeah. More TK...was worried the well was dry but you came through again.

  • Oct.13-Happy Birthday, Bobby! This is a wonderful video-Terry & Peter(the whole band) Are at their best! Thanks.

  • While we all focus on Terry for the most part, Cetera is laying down some pretty hot bass licks on this video. Great vid, thanks for posting it.

  • Thanks everybody for your comments!

Gracias a todos por tomarse su tiempo para comentar!

  • Juantoletemex, thanks for more Terry Kath & original Chicago. PLEASE keep 'em comin'.

  • I was trying to tell Juantoletemex thank you for this fantastic upload of their "Dialogue" performance. It is great to see the original group together as they unitedly put out an electrifying performance. I liked Terry Kath's guitar solo toward the end. There is no one like him. Thanks.

Agradece.

  • it looks like terry kath picked up 100 lbs on this video

  • I have this video. There are many more great songs on it, although the tape is a bit dark. Hopefully you can post some others. Thanks a lot, Juan.

  • Yes, it's hard to find clean and sharp recordings of this gig. Thanks for posting!

  • Where can I get a copy of the video and do you have others? There are other Terry performances which are better where he's thinner, sober, dramatically more energetic, etc., but Terry on a bad day is better than 90% of the guitarist vocalists of any time period!

  • Terry and Peter- sooooo much more real than Bill/Jason

    And Peter remembers the lyrics

    More great Terry guitar work

    Nice clip Thanks!!!!!
