This is a good question! in this video you can see the second train stopping at Porte de Choisy with a platform on both sides. On the platform on the right there is an entrance of the subway. The left platform is a transfer platform with buses. So I cab say yes you can board and leave on both sides... I just have to confirm that...
There is a validation before you enter the tram? Because I see that the station is open to everyone and people enter freely

The validation of your ticket is inside the tram. There are validation machines for the tickets are for the Navigo passes.
