Conheço uma versão (redução) desta obra, para violão e voz (feita pelo próprio maestro Villa Lobos,creio)a qual é cantada magníficamente pela excelente soprano Bárbara Hendricks que está muito bem acompanhada pelo grande virtuose do violão Manuel Barrueco. Para mim esta é a melhor versão que já ouvi (apesar da pronúncia de Bárbara não ser exatamente perfeita, ainda assim não compromete a obra, a meu ver...). Entretanto, também gostei muitíssimo desta obra (na versão original) na voz da Marília.

Se não gostou, diga somente que não gostou. Se queria que ela imitasse Bidu, diga que não cantou igual à Bidu. Mas querer desmerecê-la, tentando dar algum embasamento crítico de estilo e técnica, tá faltando material.

Eu acho que as pessoas ouvem uma gravação lá atrás, e acham que todos devem repetir o mesmo modo de cantar sempre. A Bidu é de uma outra época, outra técnica, outra interpretação, e tinha lá o tamanho da sua voz, fazia o que melhor lhe cabia. A Marília tem outra força, técnicas mais modernas, um conhecimento de barroco dos mais genuínos, acho difícil ela estar perdida. Se está , está bem acompanhada(Menezes). Essa gravação do palácio de Versailles é algo de extraordinário, uma beleza impar...

Caro Paulo, a concepção vocal para uma peça como esta, a meu ver, está distorcida e isto faz com que a interpretação despreze o estilo. "Grosso modo": a voz precisa ser reconduzida, a interpretação peca demais pelo desvio do estilo e a pronúncia está péssima. Vê-se que há material vocal, mas precisa ser burilado técnica e interpretativamente. Não basta adiantar-se e desenvolver com tamanha explosão estas melodias que mais têm de íntimas que de operísticas; e são de Villa-Lobos e não de Puccini.

Caro douglas (?), isso que você escreveu é tremendamente subjetivo. Só você pensa assim. Marília nunca cantou Puccini e nem sua voz é para uma Turandot... A formação dela é camerística: canto barroco na Schola Cantorum Basiliensis e Lied na Hochschule de Zurique. Com uma voz delicada, Marília trabalhou essa interpretação pessoalmente com o violoncelista Antônio Menezes, cujo entusiasmo é bem sentido nos aplausos finais. A pronúncia de Marília é elogiadíssima !

A sua visão, Douglas me parece muito simplista. Retoricamente falando, Marília dá um sentido de texto e cor da voz que é sempre muito elogiado pelos conhecedores. A experiência com o barroco permitiu a ela colocar mais corpo onde acha mais dramático e brincar com cores de acordo com o afeto do texto (vide "tristes queixumes" ou "desperta agora"). Na sua pressa em julgar a cantora (você canta ?) está lhe faltando sentir essas delicadas sutilezas, esses aromas.

In an interview about the impact of the Beatles in 1964, Neil Sedaka said that his compositions of the time were influenced by Villa-Lobos. I suspect he's just a well-kept secret.

It may surprise many how many rocks stars have been inspired by the classical composers. I once heard a song by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer and noticed it was based on a piece by Vaughan Williams. The Byrds had a hit based on Mozart. Lesley Gore had a song that is a melody by Rimsky-Korsakov. I remember the hit All By Myself; it's Rachmaninoff.

I not sure what you mean. In the early 70s there was a hit song, All By Myself (I forget the artist's name). The melody comes from Rachmaninoff's second piano concerto, second movement. One of my favorite CDs is Villa-Lobos Brasilieras Bachianas #3, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and the pianist Cristina Ortiz.

I remember that music, All By myself, and it were really plagiarism of a Rachmaninoff's concert, the number 3, i think. All the melodic line is in this music. But i never heard anything of Villa-lobos equal to anothers. Villa travelled through the brazil, collected rithms and sounds of the regional music, the india's music, the folklore's music, and created, gave it a new clothes, a classical refinamment.

Here in the United States regional sounds and natural sounds is called "tone color." His Uirapuru, for example, combines folk rhythms with animal sounds. Another excellent example of tone color is from the composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams; he captures the regional folk music of pastoral England. (I recommend his Sinfonia Anctartica.) I really don't like comparing Villa-Lobos to other composers because he is unique. However, we can see the influence of Bach.

All right, this music is influenced by bach, the name says it. There are other Bachianas too, number 1 to 5. Pherhaps remenber St. Matheus Passions in some vocalise. This is the more famous. You can see this regional trace in "Suites Brasileiras" and "Choros", "Prelúdios" to classical guitar, "trenzinho Caipira", and others compositions to others formations.

We can certainly hear the influence of Bach. In any case, "tone color" is simply another term for "timbre" and doesn't imply natural or "regional" sounds. Of course, we can see the influence of Bach in the title of the composition. I have studied Western classical music for 30 years, and have yet to see "tone color" refer to anything aside from timbre; I am in the US. That said, I am curious as to the references you have seen. I don't know if you have ever listened to The Beatles Baroque Book, conducted by Joshua Rifkin. Needless to say, it's Beatles songs performed in Baroque style. It confirms what Leonard Bernstein said, that the Beatles music is just as good as the music of many of the great masters.

This comparison is just out of purpose, what The Beatles wanted is totally different with the concernations from the Classical Music.
