I warned people that there was going to be no change, at least not for the better. I even lost friends because of it. Warned them that this country is screwed with either Republican or Democrat in office...

you are right on.
Only an independent / 3rd party candidate would have made any changes.
The problem is that our susytem is no longer a democracy it's a plutocracy at best. Controlled by only 1% of the population.
