There are similarities in the general sound and beat of the song, but anyone can hear a clear difference between the two songs. It's nothing like today where people sample songs and claim it as their own. Huey Lewis, love his music and talent, really should of looked at it as a compliment. Obviously some inspiration was taken from his song but you don't own a sound and Ray Parker Jr. didn't steal any riffs or lyrics.

Yes he stole the basic idea. But he made another great song out of it. Genius steals. The Jaws theme is stolen from classical music. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, one of those guys. you know the duuh duh, duuh duh. There are only so many note and chord progressions. That is finite, To all the songwriters out there, steal like a mfer if you can build a better song. the world will thank you for it. to all the originators, you should have thought of the possibilities. but get paid

@rowellbeej01 theres nothing genius about ray parker jr. stole basic idea? its a damn near note for note copy and was done so intentionally. im sure even mr wilde would agree that it might not be smart to live life based on 150yr old quotes, or we'd all be in trouble. so to all those real artists/songwriters out there, thank the originators for the insperation and pay them tribute by continue to do something new with the chord progressions, and avoid "advise" with the words "get paid" in it
