The monster, is the American governments FDA. Google MSG and obesity. It's in everything packaged or canned. Too much TV and video games is even more of a problem. Taking a child from their parents is far traumatic than being fat.
Children to much over weight, children too much under weight, parents refusing to vaccinate their children with every vaccine the Government "recommends", parents teaching their children religion, parents home-schooling their children, parents teaching things about the Government which the Government deems as "inappropriate", and many others are things starting to be legally defined as child abuse. So ask yourself, before you support what happened above, are you on the list?
@andid You take a child away if their well-being is in immediate danger. Unless this child gained 180 pounds over-night and the mother was intentionally fattening him up there is no reason to take him away. Action is necessary sure, but taking him away was not. Next they will expand as our government has always done. Perhaps home-schooling or vaccine refusal. Hey your kids need Gardasil after all because not giving it to them is abuse.
@YaHuWaHservant "You take a child away if their well-being is in immediate danger."
You don't consider a 200 pound 8 year old to be in immediate danger health wise? The mother may not have been "fattening" him up, but she sure as hell wasn't trying to help him. Negligence is a perfectly valid excuse to remove a child from a home. This mother, in my opinion, as well as the state's, displayed GROSS negligence.
It's amazing that there are people that are too blind to see that
@AndrewDeLong You can certainly make the argument. However, unless he became 200 pounds over night with malicious intent towards hims being harmed then I would say that he was not in danger. I believe the state should work to help her and her son; without removing him. If children can be taken away fro what the government perceives to be "Neglectful Parenting" I don't think anyone of us likes how that term can be used. Just my thoughts at least.
@YaHuWaHservant Malicious intent is beside the point. It is the neglect that is the problem. A state would not let a kid stay with a mother that neglects to stop the kid from playing in highway traffic, so why should the state allow a mother to neglect the child's physical health via gross weight gain. Basically, it shouldn't. Ohio acted responsibly in this situation, because the mother couldn't.
@AndrewDeLong That is certainly one option, though likening a lifetime of feeding to an incident of playing the highway seems crude, but you have that right. However neglect, when left to the hands of a bureaucrat can mean many things. If you home-school, refuse to give your child the vaccines "recommended", teach religion, teach what the government may deem as "inappropriate" things, teach a child about guns, etc. These could all be neglectful and grounds to remove a child. Slippery slope.
@YaHuWaHservant Well, you have the right to argue slippery slope as well, but I disagree with that assessment as of right now. All of those things you mentioned don't directly relate to the day to day physical health of a child. Being overweight to the point of a heart attack does directly relate. As I see it, the state saw the child living in a physically threatening situation, and decided to act accordingly.
@AndrewDeLong Really? You don't think anyone Government bureaucrat could make the argument that home school could be neglecting the child a proper education? That refusing "recommended" vaccines is neglecting the child's health? That teaching religion teaches division with groups of people? That teaching about guns is neglecting the child's safety? That eating things like dear hunted or drinking raw milk is neglecting the child's nutrition? I think it would be very easy.
@YaHuWaHservant Actually, speaking as a product of homeschooling & hunting, it would be rather difficult to argue against those things objectively. As for religion, no Government official in their right mind would touch that, for fear of MASSIVE reprise. Vaccination is a closed issue that has been dealt with publicly already. Guns is about the only argument you have that MIGHT stick, & even that is a big MIGHT.
Making these arguments *objectively* is harder than you think.
@AndrewDeLong You truly believe that? Perhaps you are right. Then again as our government just passed a bill that allows for the indefinite detainment of American citizens I will disagree that they would have a hard time doing much else. Herman Cain has gotten points for saying he would not let Muslims in his Cabinet, so the people are not so quick to go against religious hatred, as long as it is not their own of course, nonetheless you may be right.
@AndrewDeLong Also let's remark on the humor that comes along with the fact that shyness is now a medical condition in children and that pizza is a vegetable. With that regards legally this 200 pound boy probably got an excellent diet in terms of the "vegetables" he partook of.
@YaHuWaHservant On that pizza issue, I just have to point out that congress (the Federal level of government) passed that idiotic measure. The agency that took that child out of the hands of the mother is a state level agency, and acts *mostly* independently of congress, saved for general, broad rules and regs that CPS must abide by.
As for Herman Cain, I take that man about as seriously as a mosquito bite. (nothing to do with color, just the man).
@AndrewDeLong I support states doing as their people see fit. If the state believes this to be an emergency I am in full support. I would want it gone around differently, but that is just me. The pizza thing I found hilarious! Lobbyists 1000 and American people 0! With regards to Herman Cain I merely use that as an example that even hatred will allow you to be popular. Anyway, my only fear is in the Federal Government making edicts upon what is negligent. That is a bad road mate. Cheers
not even a real doctor lmao, have you ever seen a doctor wear that much makeup? &tbh she sounds like shes from jersey shore, this just looks like some actor they put in a white lab coat &the symbolic light blue associated with hospitals and we're fooled, meanwhile real things are happening in the world far more concerning than an overweight child. You want kids to be normal size?Take out the 35g of sugar per 250ml in juices&eliminate things like happy meals, provide healthier choices @cheaper prices
Sad to say i know this family, they actually stay across the street from me. I won't put any names on it, but i feel like his mother didnt do anything to help him lose weight. She bought hm a scooter, which is still not able to help him lose weight. His breathing has even been effected from the rapid weight gain. However, thats still not a reason to take him from his mother. To be honest shes overweight too!
If his parents didnt do anything when he even hit 150 lbs but for him to get to 250 lbs thats a sign that they arent doing anything and this kid could die easily at 20 he deserved it his parents should go to jail for involuntary man slaughter
Has anyone noticed that there is always more important news in the bar on the bottom of these things, but no one seems to give a fuck? Also, I want to see the fat kid, not a low res video feed of that doctor.
Doctor = Typical ignorant American.

I'm assuming the boy was given a thorough medical
examination; also, social workers had worked with
the mother for 20 months. It's interesting that the boy
lost 8 pound during his time in foster care. He is now
living with his uncle.
