it sounds like it doesn't have a very good base tone. I'm thinking of getting a tenor recorder. How is the sound of these compared to wooden tenor recorders? Youtube videos don't really cut it.
@1000BlueStar I don't know what you mean by "regular" ; you play with the same fingerings as you do with a soprano. That is : all holes closed = C (one octave below the soprano C, of course).
With an alto - size between soprano and tenor : all holes closed = F It means that if you do the same fingerings as you do on a soprano or tenor when playing a C scale, on the alto you will then play an F scale : F G A Bb C etc

@folkflutist It sounds a little strange on the hole range, but IMHO that is due to the recording more than the recorders or players.
