  • I picked some mugwort in the park and it tasted like dog pee.......not that i know what dog pee tast like......im just saying.......

  • In Vietnam may be we call mugwort is "ngải cứu",it is used to treat not to make soup because mugwort have a bitter taste.Anyway I'll try to cook this :D

  • Hi Maangchi, I was a little concerned when I first saw you use mugwort in another recipe (I thought it was dangerous) but I learned via Wikipedia that it is totally safe and a very popular ingredient in Korea for different foods! :)

  • My mom does the same thing, if she sees a herb or something useful she just walks up and just tries to harvest it.

  • I wish I could make this with the mugworts that grow in Harvest Moon. :P

  • i may be wrong....but mugwort looks like that type of plant that just grows around anywhere. i was strolling in a park and found a plant that looked kinda like it. it had white fuzzy things in the back...and had a bitter herby scent.

  • @SAYZLEE yes, it sounds like that's mugwort called ssuk in Korean. Check out the photo on the ingredient section on my website. Cheers! : )

  • @Maangchi im not sure to trust myself! haha i dont want to be too confident, eat it, then get poisoned

  • Maangchi is red chile pepper option

  • maangchi...u messed up my mind with these delicious cooking!

  • Maangchi, shouldnt mugwort be consumed in very small amounts ? I always thought it was only used for medicinal purposes because it is very strong?

  • @fantaztika No problem. Buy it at a Korean grocery store. There are a few different kinds of mugwort. If you like to make this soup or the snack, buy it at a Korean grocery store.

  • @fantaztika Man, at the local korean store, they sell tubs of Mugwort pickled, seasoned you buy by the pound if you want.

  • Maangchi, can I grow mugwort in a garden?

  • @CastlevaniaGirl Yes, I grew some this year. Ordered the seeds off of the internet.

  • careful Maangchi, you are only on the list for stealing pine needles, not they are going to fine you for stealing wild mugwort :-P haha

  • Hey Maangchi, where do you get your measuring spoons?

  • @dignansgirl I got it from IKEA. cheap cheap! : )

  • you know what... we use that thing as just a medicine in the Philippines... good to know that we can eat that too... we called it " MARIA or DAMONG MARIA" :)

  • Ahhh i miss making 쑥떡 w mom back in korea. We would go to the back of our apartment and make dduk w it. So gooodd.

Never tried ssook gook but loooks gooood.

  • This is a good time of the year to forage for burdock roots as well.

    Wonderful 100th video!

  • That soup looks deeeelicious! Tell me, Mangchi, would you normally clean the clams that way if you were going to use them in other Korean soups or stews, too? Say I went to E-mart for some clams to make soondoobu Jjigae, would I always clean them that way? I've never seen it done before.

  • @Korea4Me yes, I always soak them in salty water before using.

  • How do you know a plant is edible?

  • @Equinata1 Check out the photo of ssuk (mugwort) in the written recipe on my website please. ^^

  • I will look for Mugwort and make this dish! :D thank you Maangchi!!

  • That salt water trick is such a good idea, Ive never seen that before!

  • mugwort? I thought this was gonna be something from Harry Potter xD

  • Congrats Maangchi on your 100th video! I have been a fan for a long time. You have become, I think the #1 hands on resource on Korean cooking online. I have tried many of your recipes, thank you! This one however, I will not be trying. Mugwort among other plants causes me a great pain in my ass with allergies in the spring, at least its pollen. By the way, for those who don't know, Mugwort contains thujone which is can be toxic if consumed on a regular basis. If you are pregnant, dont eat it.

  • Thanks for sharing this recipe!! I want to give it a try!!

  • You are amazing! Love the videos, and that soup really looked delicious.

  • Nice 100th video ;)

    I love the beginning haha

  • I'm so tempted to take a train up to Inwood Hill Park just so I can find a wild Maangchi so I can pick her and bring her home so she can cook for me. :D

  • haha!

  • This looks so good...

  • is this cake what seunggi made on 1박 2일?

  • I use mugwort in baths or teas to help me sleep, does mugwort sleep make you sleepy? lol

  • Maangchi reminds me of my mother...if my mother was nice. LOL

Maangchi, my mother needs to be happier and nice like you. :3

  • maangchi how do you know how to make so many cool things ? did you used to have a restaurant ?

  • maanchi you rock

  • the name 'mugwort' doesn't do the plant any justice

  • I like it when people use their hands to cook :)

  • YOu are a delight to watch, Im watching you all the way from germany my husband and i are stationed over here we were in okinawa for 8 years and loved the asian cuisine to include Korean, I met some lovely Korean ladies there, they shared some recipes and OMG i was hooked! Im amazed that you can find things in a public park in NYC, Im originally from Manhattan and Im amazed that you picked oinions, mugwort and things wow.

  • what is a great substitute for clams? I cannot have certain seafood :(.

  • You are fantastic! I love how you use your hands to mix everything, and I love how you pick fresh herbs! All your videos are wonderful!

  • My friend smokes mugwort with his weed. He burns all types of herbs and things. This looks better :)

  • Is mugwort the same as garland chrysanthemum or crown daisy?

  • before i clicked play on the video and i just saw the title, mugwort sounded some type of worm or slimy bug or fish or something LOL...glad is just some type of greens or veggies.

  • Wow what a great way to use what is considered a weedy invasive species. I have also seen Asian women collecting garlic mustard, another invasive (but I'm not sure what they are making with it). If only we could teach each other more ways to use plants that are considered problematic! It's hard for me to imagine how this soup tastes, but very interesting to see!

  • Happy 100th video, Maangchi!!

  • @NatVN88 thank you very much! : )

  • Maangchi, after watching your video 2X.What are you picking from in your back yard?

What in NYC can you harvest wild that you can eat? I'm in Pa. close to Trenton ,NJ.

Dandilioin greens grow wild, but what are you picking? Is there another name for it ?

  • What else can I use instead of mugwort?

  • @myppeach You could use spinach instead of mugwort in the soup recipe.

  • Can I ask someone out there what is in soybean paste other then soybeans? They start out green, but when I get a packet in a miso soup kit,the paste is brownish.

    Thanx

  • @demmylowther Check out the photo of soybean paste on my ingredient section on my website. It's salty fermented soybeans.

  • @Maangchi can you make it at home?

  • That is some hardcore asian cooking right there.

  • where is she getting the herbs from?! random places on the ground?! it didn't even look like a garden, but it still looks like a really good dish to eat.

  • that's like dashi stock :P

  • At first, i was like eewww that grass!? but later when u made that soup with clams n all it looked so delicious!

  • Want to buy you as a personal chef XD

  • Hey Maangchi! Congratulations on your 100th video!

  • wait...is this the same thing we (in Europe) use to make absynth? I heard it can be poisonous if misused...but I bet that's a different type of the mugwort :)

  • @PainEpel

I think you are thinking of wormwood herb

  • Love video. I have always wondered why is it important to skim the top of the soup as it cooks? I like your foraging recipes. awesome.

  • @dignansgirl

I think it's because that the top of the soup is usually fat or 'dirt'? something you don't really want to eat. As you cook or let something linger you'll always see the bad part of it laying at the top :)

  • @dignansgirl removes oil and fat and all the little pieces of stuff accumulated at the top (remember light stuff floats)

  • I love clams. I believe that anything with clams is going to be good.

  • The written recipes and some photos are available on my website now! Happy Cooking!

  • Better check the radiation level before harvesting that. Love your vids sis. Peace out.

  • what if one of the clams had a pearl in it?

    haha :D

  • Mugwort gives me vivid dreams for some odd reason lol! As a Tea though.

  • Sounds like food from Harry potter...mugwort.

  • @21forever21 HAHAHA LOL

  • omg it sounds so delicious! I didn't know mugwort was edible, I'm going to check my korean grocery store for some tomorrow. :]

  • watchin this 240P like a boss.

  • this video is so blurry ;(

  • Thank you very much for your feedback! You can get mugwort at a Korean grocery store. Ask your sales clerk, "I want to buy ssuk" instead of mugwort because not many people know ssuk is called mugwort in English. : ) I'm working on my recipe now. When it's done, I will let you know. thank you again! Cheers!!! ^^

  • love you so muchh :D i was waiting for a new video sooo bad hahaha

  • Just a warning that foraging plants in NYC parks is illegal and they will ticket you if the police or park workers see you! People still do it but you just have to be somewhat careful.

  • I enjoy watching your videos everytime maangchi ssi~ :)

I just have a question though. Who films you while you're cooking? :p

Great job by the way! Keep it up! I'm hungry right now. Keke. ^^

  • @peng0915 I believe she said in one of her vids that her daughter films her while she cooks.

  • I am so glad I found your channel. I have a Korean market near me, and I am going to branch out with my cooking. Thanks for your inspiration.

  • It's your 100th video!

  • Maybe I should go to the nearest park and start looking for some fresh ingredients. XD

  • Looks interesting :). I never knew you could eat mugwort. Learn something new everyday I guess.

  • Amazing how you find the ingredients you need just growing wild in NY.

  • Finally a new video to enjoy today :)
