the problem with this is that kryptonite cant effect him when theres no yellow sun cause it only effects him when he has his powers in this scenev hes at krypton so how does he have any powers with no star there and you can see the krptonite effecting him which shouldnt be happening cause he has no powers thats the problem with this scene
Singer himself said he thought this "wasn't connected to the rest of the film", but why it's beyond me. The scene with Lex and the old lady was a very, very boring and unimpressive way to open the first Superman film in 20 years. You would think it was a no-brainer to do it instead with a beautiful and visually compelling scene that connects directly to the idea of Superman's absence from Earth, such as this.
I can't believe Singer had the balls to take this scene off the film. It looks expensive all right, and I can only imagine the face WB execs must have made when Singer told them he simply wouldn't use it. That's without mentioning the HUGE help this would have given the film overall. He cut THIS and opted instead to open the film with Lex and the old lady? Gtfo.
What makes you assume it was his decision? It is a slow scene which many would argue is a poor way to start the film. I disagree, but I can see the head of studio deciding it's too slow. Test screenings also may have had an effect of the decision as well.
to your average movie goer this scene in my opinion makes Superman TOO ALIEN ... we all know that his an alien, but people really see him as clark kent a man with super powers ... clark kent flying a crystal space ship just seems too much
@canadianguy0987 I read somewhere that the ship absorbs solar radiation as fuel, kind of how Superman's body works. It just absorbs the kryptonite, too.
DAMN! This sequence would have given Returns a SERIOUSLY needed action beat at the opening of the film-- I can't believe they ditched such a cool scene! Thank you for posting this!
Thanks for posting, your awsome. It sucks the blu ray box set has to be like $90bucks, it really should only be like $50 or something, because all the movies have been out on dvd for like forever.
It would have started at the beginning of the film, replacing the scene of Krypton exploding. From what I've read and heard, the film was supposed to start like the original film did, with the curtains rolling up to reveal a comic book with a kid (Tristan/Jason) narrating and explaining to the audience on who superman was, before fading into newspaper headlines covering the events that led to Superman's disappearance and everything that's happened during his time away.
@Herolee1988 Yeah, I believe in the Special Feature documentary itself, they showed Tristan himself at a microphone stand reading the exact same lines that were at the beginning of the film.
This would be put back in before the opening credits. That's why the the opening credits is like a ship zooming back to Earth because Clark sent his ship back to Earth. The next scene after the credits should of been him crash landing on his family farm, imo.
@shanetones Probably before the opening credits because the opening credits is sort of him traveling back to earth, thats probably why you go through all the worlds and the galaxies while the credits are going
They should have left this scene in the movie!! Great visuals, a unique idea having him return to the remnants of krypton has never been done. And the crystal ship was awesome, great imagining of the technology that wasn't seen before. Bad move to remove it from the theatrical release. A great scene that deserved to be included! I hated Superman Returns but this scene along with the plane sequence are the best of the movie.

Put some lead lining on the ship dumbass.
This may not get taken down, usually if you film your tv, it gets around copyright stuff. Also use a program to flip the image works too.
