  • Notting would feel bad because he is a former team mate

  • People need to get some sense into them! Notting DID go the man, but that's how football is played. He was trying to bump caracella out of the contest so Notting could get the ball, however Notting had NO intention of hitting Caracella high as 9/10 it would be a free kick and he wouldn't benefit from it. It was a tragic day for AFL and Caracella however there was no malice in it and to this day those two men shake hands, as unlike some of you youtubers, they know it was an accident. Grow up!

  • Blake went to my high school, PARADE

  • most courage i have ever seen from a player.

    rate up

  • @CrimzonXDevil Aw fuckin' tell me about it mate! The Brisbane player DIDN'T have eyes for the ball, he ran in late, at full speed, CHARGING AT Blake rather than the ball and absolutely smashed him! he fracturing several vertebrae and bruising his spinal cord.......AND NOT EVEN A FREE KICK? When WAS this game? 1994? For fucks sake! a player would be done for AT-LEAST 8 weeks from a reckless bump like that.

Poor Blake, you deserved better son! FUCK that Brisbane cocksucker!

  • I was actually at this game... it was fucked.

  • What a useless umpire! Should've been on report (let alone a free kick), and the fact that he didn't immediately stop play is disgusting.

  • I was watching that, Im pretty sure he broke his neck

  • What sport is this lol

  • @alliencedful AFL (Australian Football League)

  • i was at that game and cried when i was 10.

  • Essendon legend. Shouldn't have been traded

  • this was a fucking extreme accident, but, if his neck was broke, why was he lifting his head up and down?

  • @AndrewVenes his neck wasnt fully broken, normally when people become quadriplegics from neck injuries it is because the spine is completely broken and in some cases the spinal cord severed.

  • @AndrewVenes the doctor should have stopped that.

  • @AndrewVenes Accident? I'm not gonna try to argue that the Brisbane player TRIED to break his neck but seriously, come on! Blake goes down for the ball, in comes the Brisbane player AFTERWARDS, looking and aiming at Blake and he runs straight at his head when the ball was out infront of Blake. It's called not having eyes for the ball, his intention was to bump Blake off the ball and gain posesssion of the ball, there was NO NEED to come in THAT hard, it was absolutely reckless!

  • @thomy245 i'm saying it because every single game he went out there and did what he was asked of, was always effective, was a perfectly nice guy and he could possibly still be around today if it wasn't for this accident

  • what a pity. brilliant player

  • @FinalLegend23

Just a broken neck. Nothing too serious!

  • this is what killed the afl now the slightest touch on anyone and its a free kick

  • @ty4mem You need to renew the prescription for your glasses son! If you think THAT was a "slight touch" then you have to be blind or just really fuckin' STUPID!

  • @CaptainHowdy187 dont believe i said it was a slight touch. i said NOW anything that is a slight touch is a free kick. learn how to read dickhead

  • The umpires were so stupid to not stop play when the ball went out of bounds!

  • owch

  • match winning player this bloke, not only for the bombers but for all 3 teams he played for, He should be in the afl hall of fame imo.

  • i don't think he broke his neck cause he moved his head ok

  • @gabrielmosta

    Wrong! His neck was broken.

The medicos said he came with-in a milli-metre of permanent paraplysis!

He NEVER played again, who could blame him?

  • they kept playing while a man was down and medical staff was on the field? Isn't that a bit rude/dangerous?

  • @chrisz71 the umpire's supposed to stop it, but he must not have seen it when the ball when out of bounds

  • The commentator was like "He might win it well!" in my world it is "He might win it dirty"

  • caracella was a great player for the bombers, i dont support bombers either

  • im a collingwood fan so yea its bad

  • Still one of the most sickening collisions I've ever seen on a football field. Purely accidental though - no malice in it - even if Brisbane are notorious for shit like that.

  • @LordJimmy God.....ANOTHER ONE? for FUCKS SAKE!!!

Take a GOOD look at the bump again. Watch Blake go down for the ball, he's not hit a split second afterwards, he's hit a good 1-2 seconds AFTER he slid down on the ground to pick up the ball, THEN the Brisbane player comes running in like a fuckin' BULL, LOOKING AT BLAKE, NOT THE BALL.

On the replay of the bump, look at the trajectory that the Brisbane player is coming from towards the contest, the ball is INFRONT of Blake, he goes FOR Blake.

  • I believe he had a raw deal because of the fact that Essendon shafted him after he had been at the club for six years and in the premiership year, then he was forced to Brisbane the Collingwood, i mean this accident wouldn't have happened had he stayed at the bombers, such a great player who got a raw deal from the AFL. he'd probably still be playing for the bombers now had they not booted him, heffernan, solomon and others.

  • @2brave2handle

yeah but he played in a second premiership for Brisbane

  • @2brave2handle it's all because of the salary cap...we had too many good players after winning the premiership that we couldn't keep. That's why caracella, blumfield and heffernan all had to leave, solomon had to leave because he was a bit of a cunt

  • ffs is the umpire retarded? why didnt he stop the play?

  • He played in a premiership against Collingwood. He played for Collingwood and got injured against Brisbane.

  • tim notting = bastard

  • I bet Possum still thinks of it and beats himself up over it too. Poor Blakey.

  • how shit would tim notting feel being the one who ended his career and they were friends to

  • @zanedouglas101 I hope it's played on his mind CONSTANTLY ever since it happened!

    And I hope he's thinking :

"Was that REALLY in the spirit of the game what I just did?"

"Had I gone the ball and not the man, might I have not retired and permanentley injured my former team-mate?"

"If I ever have a son that plays AFL rules, I'll show him the footage of my bump as a reminder that carelessness and recklessness can wind up costing a man his career and health for the rest of his life"

  • R.I.P

  • Shit way for Blake's career to be ended - a broken neck AND playing for the Pies! All jokes aside though, I was gutted when he was traded from Essendon, at his best he was smooth as silk!

  • an unfortunate end. he could of played for a few more years.

  • what year was this?

  • 2006

  • Dirty Dirty. Nah joking just unlucky hit. Poor guy was a great player

  • I was there that night. Unfortunate to see the incident which ended a great career. But on the up side we did win that match and a youngster named Scott Pendelbery made his debut that night

  • Feel sorry for Carracella, but that was a great hit. go the lions!!

  • a great hit? how can anything be GREAT when it can break someones neck and risk them being paralysed? show some humanity and compassion instead of calling something dangerous "great" you're a disgrace.

  • @Jake4jake4 Great hit? What do you mean by that? I hope you don't mean what I think it means.

  • @AussieBrock yeah i dont mean it like that, it would suck. that was my friend. sorry to anyone that he may have offended.

  • he never should of left essendon

  • notting didnt even get suspended and he broke someones neck

  • that ended his career

  • He was most awesome at essendon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i was there too bad thing caracella died (jk retired) good thing is WE WON!

  • Gotta give credit to both Notting and Carracella, neither took their eyes off the footy

  • four weeks for that now days

  • It couldn't be because bothe players had eyes for the ball.

  • The rule is any contact above the should is a free kick. Even if its accidental, delibrate or intentional.

  • Deliberate OR Intentional?

  • did he die?

  • No he didn't.

  • i was there

  • feel sorry for him.

    he was great at essendon

  • do u have any other vids on this coz i went to thsi game and i think i was on T.V????

  • oh and still are

  • that wasnt luke power mate it was tim notting, and dont have a go at him cus him and carra were great mates at brisy and he felt horrible, btw im a pies supporter

  • wat year was this?

  • 2006

  • What year was this?

  • i love afl but i couldn't play this sport

nothing but the guernsey on your back

utmost respect for the players' courage

  • @TomatoBasil23 thats great that your scared to play because of lack of protection, just shows your not determined enough

  • Sad day for Brisbane, Essendon and Collingwood supporters but Notting did nothing wrong here though. Both players going for the ball, an unfortunate accident occured.

  • yes but he was a little reckless dont think he needed to go in full bore like that knees first and im sure he could have seen caracella with his head over the ball.

  • poor guy he had a few years left to go!

  • bloody brisbane luke power u dirty dog

  • its called football, those things are going to happen unfortunately

  • he had about another two years in him!

poor bloke, but notice, Chad Morrison and Blake Carecealla were both our top pick-ups from other clubs, and they both finish up in the same year! D:

Ahh, poor Blake, but know he is an assistant coach at Collingwood.

    P.S, i was at that game. :D

  • thats bloody tite as he had to retire

    f u notting

  • idiot brisbane

  • thats a real leader on bucks going up and seeing wats wrong.

poor blake i wish he could have played

  • shame he left essendon and shame that he was forced to retire

  • poor former bomber

  • i don't understand this sport at all

  • Notting you Idiot

  • As much as I hate Collingwood, no player deserves that.

  • Gotta feel sorry for him, damn that must have hurt.

  • The umpires are fucking idiots not to stop the match!!!!! That's the rule....

  • Technically they didn't need to stop the match until the stretcher was on the field. The umpires had their back to the trainers. Not everything is their fault you know.

  • I think both players were at fault. Notting prob should've been more careful, however putting your head over the footy like that you are bound to get hit. Not sure how it wasn't at least a free.. Rocca comes in and gives notting a bit of how do you do.. And the umpires take four hours to stop the play!!

  • One of those incidents that look worse than they are in slow motion.

Caracella and Notting both did what had been drilled into them since juniors. Throw your body at the loose ball.

A freak accident that ended a fine career.

  • Notting really did nothing wrong here. Both players were going for the ball. If anything Caracella slightly pulls back at the last minute which contributes to the evential impact.

Unfortunately sometimes these injuries happen despite players doing the right thing.

  • Being a Brisbane supporter has nothing to do with it, I could show you a thread on bigfooty where supporters of 15 clubs (except Collingwood unsurprisingly) almost unanimously agreed that it was an unfortunate incident but that Notting did nothing wrong.

Don't be a baby, both players were going for the ball and an unfortunate incident occured. That happens in football.

Go watch netball if you are scared of contact sports.

  • as a brisbane supporter, i was absolutely sickened to see caracella's injury. i say this because blake was one of my favourite players during his stint at the lions. yes it was high, and yes it should have been a free kick. although caracella did slip, it was nottings fault. it was a real shame to see such a talented player forced to retire. as much as i dislike collingwood, i would never wish this upon anyone. i hope caracella's career will be remembered fondly, good luck to the pies this year.

  • As a Lions supporter, it was sickening to see. Notting was clumsy and as the commentators say how can that not be a free kick?

  • Tragic end to a decent career. Was just starting to show Magpie fans his skill.
