its strange..... but if johnny died in that cave i would have never heard his american recordings and become the fan that i am, i guess fate is for sure!
"Read the book and saw the film (Walk the Line). Fascinating man, dirt- poor background, but he had an amazing talent and amazing integrity. Lots of issues, his brother's tragic death and his father's rejection of him lead him down the path of self-destruction. But June Carter came into his life and dished out some "Tough Love" told him to get off his knees and learn to love and respect himself. Wonderful song about a great man."
It's a shame that Johnny Cash succumbed to the temptations of supernatural religious dogma and disgusting Christian nonsense. He was probably inculturated into it as a child by tradition and the poor guy could never quite shake it off. I think the reality of life was too painful for him and he hid in the false promises and wishfull thinkings of the local religion.
@FaganRoberts What is kind of ironic is how if you believing that Christianity is such a superstitious tradition; how it is that you find yourself visiting a video about the very subject that you find to be a bunch of nonsense. Better becareful! You just might become superstitious with the rest of us who have found hope and faith in the redemption bought and paid for by Jesus Christ. Then you'd have to face those who sounded just like you before you were born again.
@FaganRoberts But if God be merciful to you and you find your life is at its witts end: if you can remember, turn to Psalm 107 and find how your story, Johnny's story, and anyone who has experienced the goodness of God's mercy to the children of men is but another voice in the choir of Psalm 107. Hope to see you in the Lord's choir.
@FaganRoberts I'm not sure that JC's religion was as dogmatic as you put it. Having read his autobiographies, it's revealing to learn that he did not consider himself a Christian fundamentalist, but rather a sort of self-styled universalist.
His political views also reflect this; he was vocally unsupportive of G.W. Bush and (according to his daughter) vehemently opposed to the Iraq war.
Quite far removed, I'd say, from his Southern Baptist-fundamental conservative roots.
@moproducer I've met plenty of Baptist style fundamentalists who had far left political tendencies, southern Dixiecrats, negroes, etc., and I think JC was among them. Who knows for sure? But he did have an awesome cowboy revolver collection. So he couldn't be all that bad.
@FaganRoberts By JC's own admission, he was not a fundamentalist, although in Cash: The Autobiography, he admits that he went through a period of fundamentalism in the early '70s before changing. He was an enigma wrapped in a question; he loved his guns, God, his country, and political ideals that ranged from left-center to far left. Sounds a lot like me.
@moproducer His guns? Good. His god? Who's god, what god? A delusion. His country? He loved what he thought it should be, not what it is. But I agree, he was left of center, rather cockeyed and idealistically out of touch.
@FaganRoberts Right, his God. Might not be your god, but everybody has one. They come with all kinds of forms, price ranges, benefit packages, names, utilization, etc. JC was pretty clear about his gods...there were several over his lifetime, ending up with the one generally referred to as Almighty.
You may not share Cash's beliefs about God, but you can't deny that he had one and declared his trust in God. I personally don't think his ideals were out of touch.
@moproducer Not everyone believes in supernatural dieties, and I never denied Cash was delusional about metaphysics.
But yes, he was out of touch with most Americans with regard to politics. Most in my circle liked his music, but whinced when it came to his obsession with criminal incarceration, politics and Jimmy Carter, etc.. Most thought he was self debasing.
@FaganRoberts Like I said, it's a free country. I'm not sure that statistics will support your a priori claims, but hey, I really don't give two hoots in hell about it.
And you are correct; not everyone believes in a supernatural deity. It just happens that JC said that he did. Whether or not he really did is something you will never know.
Psalm 107 tells of how the goodness of the Lord is towards the children of men. Be they rebels, sinners, fools, or at their wits end by circumstances of life; when they call out to the Lord, his goodness is that he has been their deliverer, savior, redeemer and help in the storm every time. The key in every instance: calling on the name of the Lord. Any who call upon the name of the Lord shall not be ashamed. Call on him while he may be found.
i wonder what johnny cash did to make him feel like a sinner, other than the death of his brother, their has to be somthing more than that to make him feel so bad
@discobiscuites Johnny Cash didn't do anything to make himself feel like a sinner. It was the Holy Spirit that revealed to him the sinner that he was. It was also the Holy Spirit that caused him to cry out to the Lord Jesus for mercy when he saw the sinner that he was. It was the same Holy Spirit that also brought the peace and grace that is in the forgiving blood of Jesus to Johnny's soul. Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus that died for a sinner like Johnny and me. You too?
@discobiscuites he took alot of drugs in his hay day, left his wife etc.. either way he's not a sinner, its his life and he did what he wanted with it,that doesn't make him any different from anyone else.
@KeepinItRealMofo I know, but even the songs he did before he started drugs, before he left his wife, hes allways in a dark place, he allways had a sick undertone motive to alot of his songs, a deeper meaning. he was an amazing song writter and person and was their through his music for a lot of people. but i was just wondering why he had so much hatrid for himself. the last song he released before he died called hurt i know he didnt write it it was origonally by nine inch nails.
@discobiscuites Yes, it's called the Christian tradition. And when you believe in that superstition it makes you feel yucky inside until you seek redemption from that exact same text that tells you that you are a sinner in the first place. It's like a Mafia protection racket. And it never fails to fool the gullible and uneducated.
@FaganRoberts You mean like Dr Dwight L Moody? Or maybe you meant someone like Sir Isaac Newton? Or maybe you meant someone like R. C. Sprouls? Or perhaps you had someone like Louis Pasteur or William Tyndale in mind? Maybe you even meant someone like Charles H. Spurgeon? Maybe you are speaking of all those Harvard graduates of old? Or maybe you didn't realize that most of the universities that have been around so long were established by gullible and uneducated Christians?
this is real they say johnny found jesus in nickajck cave. he deffently played a differernt tune after this. johnny cash was a great man legend and singer. i think gary allan will fall into this catagory. he already is almost there.
says it all about johnny cashs early years. gary allen is a genuis when he writes and sings songs. the man is a really nice person as well. dont see too many celebritys like him anymore. good guy
@Christlicious - It's not a pity that he died...Cash was riddled with several diseases that had weakened him and tortured him.He was legally blind, and unable to walk.He was in constant pain. Then he lost his love, the woman whom he had given his soul to. It's a blessing that he went on to be in peace, and his physical and mental suffering was brought to an end. The miracle we can be thankful for is that this wonderful man selflessly shared his talents with us, and left behind his amazing legacy!
Jayhit31: Once again I find you 100% correct. Met Gary in 2000 and I have to say the guy is one nice guy. He is the Cowboys Country Singer. They just dont make that "Whiskey Drawl" singer any more in Nashville. I am proud to say Gary is from were I live. He is the true Honky Tonk man. "Dont tell mama I was drinking" Says it all about the mans talent and voice.
He's definitly one of my favorite singers. Haven't had a chance to meet him yet but i want to. All of his albums are so good. He's one of those singers that writes what he wants to no matter what but he writes for himself and it just so happens that everyone can relate to his music. I hope he comes out with another few albums.....
I`am a huge cash fan and a big fan of gary allen. Check out a singer song writer named Chris Knight, he`s a little dark and a little raw, but I think he`s one of the best song writers ever....
its interesting how God meets us at the end of our rope. probly cuz b4 that point we arent willing to listen to what HE has to say. I appreciate Johnny Cash's fantastic testimony.
Yeah, he didn't die in the cave, in case your reading skills are that bad, I said he went in to lay down and die. I never said he died, please, go back to school and learn some reading comprehension.
I refuse to believe Cash died, he is alive in my mind an always will be til the day i die xxx
