@Spudst3r You're probably right, the second chute at that altitude didn't slow him much more then the first, but the first chute looked a little collapsed on the right side, so he may have ended up in the rocks instead of the river due to lack of control, and at that speed, that would have hurt.

@WelcomeToMyDream A Canopy transfer is when you inflate the reserve, fly it side by side to your main attached, then 'transfer' to the reserve only by chopping the main. Get your facts right internet experts on BASE jumping(experts on fuck all obviously).

Actually If the main is flying that good why are you risking everything with an xfer anyway? And yeah, I've seen a transfer in real life (from under canopy), and it looked a lot like this, maybe not like you "imagine" it looks. Not that reserve rides have much to do with BASE, I'm a SKYDIVING expert, only have 7 BASE jumps.

Wouldn't it have been better to land with his main chute instead of cutting away ? I mean, yes, he was spiraling a bit, but he would have landed in the water. On the other hand he could not be sure his reserve would have time to open. I'm not a base jumber or skydiver - just curious ?

was he ever so lucky he decided to take his skydive gear instead of his base jump gear. probably was saying well its pretty high so i take my skydive gear because i have more time to deploy and well yeah the reserve chute never hurt someone!

@MarkyMarkSaffa Low altitude = canopy transfer. Pop the reserve, see it catch behind you and then cut away. Or not, depending upon the situation. It's better to have more fabric out in low altitude situations. Obviously, that's in skydiving, This dude is lucky his "main" deployed at all, much less had a reserve to toss, much less the altitude to use one effectively. Altho he wasn't spinning that fast & didn't have much altitude left for it to develop into a fast spin.

That being said, he barely felt it come out of the pack before he cutaway and I don't blame him due to the spin. It almost seems orchestrated considering how it played out--876 feet is not really that forgiving. Orchestrated or not, it's better to be lucky, than good! It would have scared the crap out of me.

Don't comment about anything skydiving/BASE related. Playing Just Cause does not make you an expert of anything. This BASE jumper is using a skydiving rig. The reserve is used as a second chute in case the first has a malfunction. It's not used to slow him down more than the first you fucking retard.
