athmospheric reentry causes over 10g in earth as well. the spacecrafts have in them inertia dampening devices that work in a similar principle to the G generators in earth, but work in opposite directions.
@Owner2105 actually, with a G-suit a average fighter pilot would pass out at about 9.5 Gs. just pass out. they dont get squished. the blood just cant get pumped in to the brain a couple of secs in 10.5 g would just result in passing out.
the orbit is not weird - orbits gave to be in ellipse because only that way will your ship stay in orbit, otherwise it would require fuel to stay in orbit instead of using natural gravity force to propel and attract you
@kebubas I'm sure kurt understands orbital mechanics enough to know that. I think he was talking about how his orbital pattern was "weird" because it was so stretched out, not because it was an ellipse.
Well, couldn't you effectively break ou of orbit by facing the oppodite way you are traveling and effectively reducing all your momentum in that direction so that inertia can't keep you in an orbit and gravity just pulls you in?
Kurt, when you launch press d to tilt towards the east and this will hopefully be in line with the moon's orbit. Be sure not to launch to the west if you want to get to space efficiently due to Kerbin's rotation.
when you want to go to the moon, burn when the moon is rising at an altitude of 100,000 metres, until your orbit goes a bit over the moons orbit. you will meet be drawn in by the moons gravity.
Kurt, if you want to do it a little more by the numbers (Granted, that's not very important to the Kerbal) then you typically want to jettison the service module facing directly away from the planet with the rocket nozzle facing towards the planet. This way you gain vertical separation from the rest of the craft and mitigate the risk of it flying back and hitting your capsule on re-entry.
Just so you know Kurt, the chute always opens at 500 m and you will decelerate on your own all the way down into the 100's of m/ps. So you should only deploy your chute at around 1200-1000 meters. This will eliminate your G-force problem.
The fun thing about the truncated frustrum is that it's self righting - doesn't matter if you enter the atmosphere point first, it will always orient itself so that the heatsheild is pointing downwards.
About the reentry... You can safly open the parashoot in about 15000 or 10000 you were moving about 2200 m/s when you opened it... let atmosphere drag to slow you down first that will help you to avoid large G forces :)
lol i tried this game and WOW it is actually more fun than it appears, AND it is a lot harder to get to space than it seems x.X im not there yet! but i am almost halfway off the ground :P lol jk
I hear a lot people saying they fail to orbit kerbin but instead the sun, my question is why are you doing that much of a burn? Most orbital velocities are around 2000 m/s and with the world map orbit is a hell alot easier than back when I first tried.
I've been playing this since your first video and I git to moon 400meters to land and I hit wring button and flew out of control new crater on moon guted
@LonMcGregor Wouldn't that be a sociopath (Could very well be wrong here, and I probably am, I'm just vaguely remembering my high school psychology class)?
there is a problem... you will land in the teritorial waters of untied socialist sovieto kerbals and they dont need your tech, they already been to the moon
@Callan1296 You are right for the game as it is now, but it currently lacks 2 important reentry variables, what force actually kills the Kerbans and the heat generated from friction caused by going through the atmosphere at those speeds. This would happen before the 20km, where KSP allows you to deploy the shoot.
@jujumistress I used so much thrust that instead of getting to the mun I began orbiting with no way to break orbit around the sun with a chance that in the next in game decade they will reenter the athmosphere.
I was expecting the end of this to be GIGIGIGI when I saw that rocket on the pad. :D Glad it wasn't. Now to try and deorbit my pod that is at 197,560 - 197,844 m. It's stable and about as perfect to circular as I'll get.

No, that is to do with speed,
