This was my nigga back in the day!!!! He had game trust me...it was just a bad time for the league when he came in...a guy with his skills now is like rare as fuck.
Spent my teen years watching the Coleman-Anderson Nets. The loss of Petrovic was tough for the franchise and they never really found their footing in the years after (well, at least not until KMart was drafted and Kidd arrived). Coleman could've been so much more in the NBA. Great athlete, good outside touch, decent shot blocker. But the greats of the league (f.e., Karl Malone) really toyed with him.
Yeah i dunno what happened after 94, it just seemed like him & Kenny were content that they were NBA All-Stars & never tried to get better. DC in particular always felt he was entitled to something & after Dream Team II he felt he had nothing else to prove. He really could've been an all-time great at PF, a real shame. David West reminds me alot of him.
Coleman's conditioning became a real problem as he got older -- he was much lighter and quicker off his feet when he first came into the league. You could still see glimpses of the athleticism with the 76ers and Hornets, but he wasn't the same guy he was at 'Cuse and with the Nets. Kenny never improved his outside shot and he wasn't physical enough to duplicate his college successes in the pros. He too could've been so much more ...
why r u guys comparing hakeem the dream to derrick coleman? seriously i know coleman could've been the greatest pf but come on i mean HAKEEM OLAJUWON? that guy was a BEAST
nay, len bias may have been the biggest waste of talent in the history of sports. he was better than mj and overdosed on draft night. as far as coleman, players like malone and barkley, said he could've the great power forwards of all time. with dc's talent he could've easily been a hall of famer.
Well after Petrovic passed, Coleman & (other members of the Nets) really just started acting like a punk. He was rude to fans/media, he told coaches to shut up, & really didn't care about his craft anymore, just his game check.
But Hakeem was taller so he could block shots and get rebounds easier. He was a elegant player ur right, but i'm talking potential with Coleman. He had more athletic ability than Hakeem and could've been a better player than him.
no i'm not. Think of it a 6'10 PF with outside range. Could pass like a point guard, a great rebounder and actually pretty quick when he was with the Nets. Even though he underachieved big he still scored 12,884 points and over 7,000 rebounds. He also had 3 or 4 20-10 seasons. He could have had about 15 of those. So he could have been the greatest ever.
According to DC's wife, Gina, she says that he is overreacting to the heart condition and that his doctor said he only has a heart murmur.....nothing life threatening.
I've seen him play.........................AWESOME! Just wish he was more inspired.
Actually Coleman was great. He was recently diagnosed with a heart condition that caused him to always get tired very quickly during his career. He always had it. And was still great.
whoa prose hold on there Coleman was NOT a crybaby. He was uninspired simply because he didnt give a fuck about anything except the checks. Whats up with the song on this video though? It doesnt really match Coleman at all, He was a straight up thug. I need to go find me a Coleman Jersey.
Well I respect ur opinion. I like the song for this vid. It shows how some one who was just sooooooo talent with the outside n inside gm, but didnt reach his full potential throughout his career. Just some one who had fun with the talent he had but without really going all out throughout his career. I mean he had moves that u wouldnt expect from a player of his statue. N that is what I feel with this move. Its like wow, he can go behind the back n back up to the 3 in hit it. He can pass. etc.
Michael Beasley is the closest thing to DC both left handed, crash boards hard, post game, face up game, handles, and long range on jump shot. Beasley is a little smaller though
If Derrick Coleman had lived up to his potential, you would't have to repeat his entire highlight reel twice to make it add up to three and a half minutes. There'd be more than enough highlights to go around.
The funny thing about time, is that it has a strange way of somehow erasing what used to be from the memory of people. I love KG, but DC was more of a beast than he was as far as skills go. KG has more heart.
Derrick Coleman had the talent and ability to become one of the best in the game and threw it all away by being lazy and undisciplined. Such a waste of talent should be downright criminal.
KG, Dirk, nor Rasheed had the ability DC had. At 6'10, DC could literally play all five positions on the floor. He had excellent handle, something that guys you mentioned don't have.DC had superb passing ability none of the guys you mentioned come close, MAYBE KG. DC wasn't much of a defender, but his offensive abilities were ahead of his time. There wasn't a PF in the league with his skill set.
well fucking put!! even to this day, i've yet to witness a PF that possess DC's overall package..As much as i love KG, he doensnt have DC's ball handling skills, nor shooting, tho his passing skills is close...Dirk cant handle the rock, nor rebound like DC...DC was truly one of a kind for a PF..He could have easily went down as the GOAT PF no questions asked. Fuck Tim Duncan..But instead, he will be remembered as just another vastly talented but
how fun would it be to play as the 93 nets on 2k12 or beyond

At 50 seconds in he freaked it with the head fake behind the back fade away. to have been 6' 10" and to move like that was a gift.
