The reason furries wont let u interview them is because the psychological part of being a furry is not being comfortable with yourself, thats why most dress up and want to be that way so badly. people already so introverted being ridiculed as agressivly as they are a bound to NOT let you interview them. I dont see whats so hard about that to understand. And on their side they need to understand most people are fucking assholes on the internet who would never say shit to their face
I was never really into furries until i started making them on IMVU for other users to wear... Im also a huge anime fan... And i think anime fans like it cuz of nekos in shows and stuff... I like it cuz i like to b creative when i draw furs because u can b more creative with furs than humans. I dont think ill eva wear a full body suiy but i want paws x3!!! But yeah i dont see many people atleast on imvu wanting to b furry for sexual reasons but for being creative... :3
@Truffletops I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It's kind of a vicious circle; cons will not relax their media rules because of fear of being exploited - and the media is even more eager to exploit the group because of such restrictions and rules... Elusive and secretive = more intrigue.
This was the most accurate and unbiased documentary I've seen of furries in a long while, given what you were able to film. In my 15 years of drawing the art and wearing a costume at cons, you pegged it. It's just fun harmless folks that know each other online hanging out. We're all lame and kinda dull. I haven't seen anything shocking that I haven't seen at a sci-fi con or an anime con. Furry cons are social. The characters are usually original creations, not based on a franchise.
Yep, this was pretty alright compared to some hateful things I've seen.
The only reason I could think that they didn't want you around without an escort or anything the first time was that Furs get tired of automatic assumptions of outside parties. However documentaries like this where you sort of say "Yes, we think its lame, but just the same as any other fan convention." Your sort of just throwing an everyday view out there, as opposed to an extremist one. I liked it.
See, if you had gone along with the rules and let an escort take you around you would have had an awesome experience like this: therapidsblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/2010-rocket-city-furmeet.html
Another quick comment: Though you can see a lot of crappy fursuits in these videos, one thing I like about fursuits is that they can be thought of as works of art that people wear, some terrible, a lot of them so-so, and a few better than you could imagine. So, even if it's a social event, it's interesting to watch videos of conventions because in some ways it's like an art gallery with the pieces moving around.
One quick comment: at 2:30 - absolutely true. I've never been to a furry convention, but I've seen plenty of video footage of them, especially from FTV. With only a few exceptions, they're never interesting or funny.
What disgusted me was these reporters snobbish attitudes and later profanity. That destroyed any credibility that they had. Calling a con "fucking boring" is bad journalism and won't land you a job at a TV station or newspaper.
This is what a lot of cons are, Anime, gaming, comic, and furry cons. the only problem is because of the fact of the media picked Furries as people doing sexual act must furries are more worried that if they talk outside of the fandom then they would be picked and targeted in media as negitive. Just remember it takes a long time too build a foundation on only one moment too destroy it

@SlavicTheTerrible So what if they do it behind closed doors? Who are you to stick your nose into other peoples busibess in the bedrooms anyway? For most people it isn't even all about sex etc - but yeah: bias always wins. Anyway: It's people like SlavicTheTerrible why they don't want outsiders in there. I personally wouldn't want biased people who only jugde things although they don't understand - and don't even TRY to understand them - around me as well.

@SlavicTheTerrible Dude your nothing but a troll, and unless you can say those things to my face in person then I've got no respect for your opinion. Furries will be around forever and there's not a damn thing you can do to stop us, deal with it. You are not a 'moral superior' in any way shape or form, and the fact that you even think yourself one just proves that you aren't. To all the other furries out there Power to the Paw Furry for Life!
@SlavicTheTerrible Why? Are you seeing the reason behind my words and is it scaring you? I can think with an open mind, while yours is closed and that frightens you doesn't it?
@SlavicTheTerrible Your just proving my point more and more, I'm tired of always just sitting back and ignoring trolls like you, because you never learn, hell you never learn even if your shown truth and reason. Why, you ask? Because your scared of people who think differently than you and can't accept them for who they are.
@Moleperson15 Trolls don't care about the reality of anything. They just want something or someone they can attack with minimal risk to themselves (cowards and parasites).
Oh god, I was going to try and debate you but NOW I see the true nature of the beast. Your a brain dead and closed minded bible fucker who has no idea that the world doesn't revolve around his bigoted spew. You act like your so high and mighty in your badly concealed hate campaign. when has someone else having sex EVER been your business?
Do you ask your neighbors about their sex life or try to secretly film it? Because your pretty much saying thats how you are about furries. Your SO interested you must be at least a little curious about us and covering it up with hate. Don't deny it hun, it only makes it more obvious.
Lets see wannabee documentry poducers wanted to sneak in and get the scoop that we just a bunch of fetish weirdos. The problem is what happen at a fucon did not meet your assumptions. Perhaps we do not like to talk to the press, is you do not want to report our story but find the evidence to print your story.
We been burnt one to may times form the media. You need to ditch your petty assumptions and get to know us first.
If you're not into Furry, Furry is lame. Same is true of Anime and all other fandoms. So there's not much point in Furs trying to tell you what the attraction is. If you're not into it, you're not going to get it.
Also, Furry has a long history and diversity that just won't quit. You can't walk up to a Furry and get the whole thing in a nutshell, nor can you get it from just looking in on a con. It requires a lot of research, and a 2 hour documentary. Not a 15 minute one. Anyway, if you want to talk about it, track me down and throw some questions at me.
@PerriRhoades This is kind of our point. Anime fans attack furries. Comic book fans attack anime fans. Star Wars fans attack comic book fans... When, objectively, all of these fandoms are "stupid" to anyone who has no vested interest in them. They're really just all the same. So arbitrarily pigeonholing Furries as perverts is unfair. That is the main idea we were trying to express.
@studiokanzen I understand you had a good message to put across. Unfortunately, it's overshadowed by the general lameness of this very unprofessional video.
@studiokanzen So your topic wasn't "furries", but "videographers who don't know what furries are, but think it would make a good topic"? :-)
The fact remains: You didn't understand what you saw. That is why conventions provide media guides - so you know "what furries are doing and what they are all about."
You could have asked "why don't we see costumes for sale?", leading to a discussion of how each fur has a personal character, so buying one doesn't make sense. You missed out by going solo.
I think this was a fair outsider's look into the furry fandom. I see nothing wrong with this documentary, and as a furry, agree with most of what was said. We need to stop being so damn uptight.
"A social convention", "talking", "meeting" etc - maybe that is exactly what these people miss in normal life. Life today is all about going to parties et cetera - and once you don't want to do that, you are looked on as if you are some kind of alien, and this "documentary" just shows that.
And maybe, just maybe it is just the mere fact that they have a fantasy they all share - and this fantasy is the only place in many peoples life, which does not suck like hell - and trust me: Many lifes do.
@Valvallaria Anyway - I do not speak for all others, but I surely speak for myself. I don't need to do things that are supposedly "fun" (at least by the standards of many people: drinking alcohol til you vomit, etc etc) - I prefer social meetings mixed with some fantasyworld - and if that makes me strange: SO BE IT!
How to use the fantasy is something most people have forgotten, nowadays. Or maybe it's even more the animal form of how they feel inside.
This is a poor documentary, because you went into making it without an understanding of the topic. Due to this lack of understanding, it became a documentary about your response to furry instead.
You should have known why people dress up in costumes; why the material was on sale in the Dealers Den, before stepping through the door. But you didn't.
If you don't do your research, you'll never get the respect that you want. You should have read up before picking up the camera.
true, you didn't tell them anything about the pedophiles, all the porn and beastiality that takes place. The nasty stuff happens in the hotel rooms. Things like baby fury wearing diapers and shiting all over each other. As GreenReaper demands it, please include this stuff in future documentaries. And no, I'm not trolling.
These topics exist. They're even worth talking about - as I've done myself now and then. I wouldn't mind seeing a documentary that included them, from someone who understood the fandom, because they'd be able to put it into context.
But if you don't understand why furs are in the fandom, or what they get out of it, I sure wouldn't want you prowling the con floor looking for footage. Do your homework first; then perhaps you'll be qualified to do a documentary.
Why furs are in the fandom and what they get out of it is different for almost every single one of them. How should people know whitout asking the furries? That's just stupid. You just say that because you want to keep the age old furry cover up story alive. Just like your wikifur does. Censorship at it's worst.
I've been to several anime conventions, but I've never seen any "hand in pants" check or anything like that. And I've been to a furry convention too. Maybe you're the one closing his eyes from reality here.
Obviously your the one with closed eyes here,. Have you ever been to one of the hentai screenings, or see yaoi fangirls smack each others asses with yaoi paddles. Furries don't molest each other in public or wear scantly clad clothing like cosplayers. I've been to anime conventions and seen 14 year olds in skirts up around their thighs trying to pose "sexy", you will never see that at a furry convention.
Most news medias are looking for the shocking issues to sell the news ,it if bleeds it leads mentaily, so people in fursuits there must be something going on you never see the media covering Order of the MOOSE or EAGLES conventions like thay do FurCons. The only good news coverage i've seen of late was by the San Jose station CBS5 i think it is and thay did all of their interviews outside the hotel.
Comic Con International has very much the same media restrictions where you have to have a press pass, they just don't appear to require a minder. They do hwoever vet press to make sure you're from a legit source. They do also require written authorization for use of any film, interviews, etc that will be used in commercial projects.
So the press restrictions aren't unique to furries. You'll probably find similar restrictions at other cons, due to copyright issues.
and i agree... it's not right for furries to not allow others to say negative things about furries. to me, i do not care if you call us wierd as hell, or that you hate it, unless it's just mindless rambling when one only watches CSI or some shows that focuses on the sex strictly, then make judgements from there.
so call us boring, idiots, crazy, LAME, stupid, etc. cause you did your research.
also, sorry about the lack of access to the first con :P
boring indeed :P sorry that you guys couldn't see it the first time round. and sorry we're as lame as cosplayers :P and also not as exciting as the secrecy would've have made people think :P it's SERIOUSLY nothing special to non-furs as it IS a social gathering of sorts rather than an entirely fun thing
Our bottom line is not having our faces splashed everywhere in media quick-buck shock scoops by professionally trained vultures, which most of them are. We're just levelling the playing field. Also were you filming that stuff without permission?
Its also very true when you say that you realized it was just a social gathering. Thats EXACTLY what it is, furries have no hidden agenda, and thats what we've been trying to explain forever. We nerds who are so specific in your dorky hobbies that we have to get together to reconnect, I mean, the internet is only good for so long. Its also the fact that so many people ostracize furries that once in a while we need a place to feel safe and accepted, among friends...its like a family.
Sorry for that deleted comment on the other video. I guess you can say that the media has left a scar on the fandom that starts to hurt every time the media tries to see whats up. But thank you for keeping an open mind.
I do find it funny though, so many people extremely curious about us like this. I mean, I don't see any anime convection documentaries scrutinizing its attendees the way people do to furries. Anime fans like japanese cartoons, furry fans like animal cartoons. *shrug*.
@gag75 Aaaaand...the anime cons have girls wearing next to nothing. But nooo just because furries wear full suits they automaticaly think we are hiding something. Nope not hiding a thing. In truth furries are pretty much more into acting silly in their fursuits...well thats what i have seen at least.
fantastic fantastic fantastic subpixel! so glad you guys gave your real opinions on the subject guys. Fascinating topic, makes sense why it took so long to get this out. Keep up the great work!
I'd say not so much stupid, or lame.......as just plane sad

true, you didn't tell them anything about the pedophiles, all the porn and beastiality that takes place. The nasty stuff happens in the hotel rooms. Things like baby fury wearing diapers and shiting all over each other. As GreenReaper demands it, please include this stuff in future documentaries. And no, I'm not trolling.
Wadrum 1 year ago
@Wadrum Oh, I think you are. :-)
These topics exist.

@TheGreenReaper
Why furs are in the fandom and what they get out of it is different for almost every single one of them. How should people know whitout asking the furries? That's just stupid. You just say that because you want to keep the age old furry cover up story alive. Just like your wikifur does. Censorship at it's worst.

@Wadrum
You've kind of proved that you've obviously never been to an anime convention.
They discussed the porn, if your able to get past a drawn picture of porn (oh noes) there is nothing "exciting" about furries.
And all the other things you listed, those also exist outside the fandom too, in what we call the REAL WORLD. Do you live there?
Do you realize they have japanese cartoon porn screenings at anime conventions, and that they have to do a "hand in pants" check every 10 minutes?

@gag75
I've been to several anime conventions, but I've never seen any "hand in pants" check or anything like that. And I've been to a furry convention too. Maybe you're the one closing his eyes from reality here.
Wadrum 1 year ago
@Wadrum

@Wadrum
Also, why the FUCK do you care what goes on in private hotel rooms, when the hell did someone else's sex life EVER become your business?
gag75 1 year ago
If you want to know about furries, be a furry. Otherwise, there's no point in bothering. You're either in or you're not. :-P
As far as being butthurt about the media rules, had you done your research before showing up, you would have been aware of them and respected them.
Think of it like a locker room. Most of what goes on there is private, boring, and doesn't need to be shown to the public.
When you go traipsing in armed with cameras to a private event, you're going to arouse suspicion.

You'll probably find similar restrictions at other cons, due to copyright issues.
fenrislorsrai 1 year ago
and i agree... it's not right for furries to not allow others to say negative things about furries. to me, i do not care if you call us wierd as hell, or that you hate it, unless it's just mindless rambling when one only watches CSI or some shows that focuses on the sex strictly, then make judgements from there.
so call us boring, idiots, crazy, LAME, stupid, etc. cause you did your research.
also, sorry about the lack of access to the first con :P
infinitevitality 1 year ago
boring indeed :P sorry that you guys couldn't see it the first time round. and sorry we're as lame as cosplayers :P and also not as exciting as the secrecy would've have made people think :P it's SERIOUSLY nothing special to non-furs as it IS a social gathering of sorts rather than an entirely fun thing
infinitevitality 1 year ago
Our bottom line is not having our faces splashed everywhere in media quick-buck shock scoops by professionally trained vultures, which most of them are. We're just levelling the playing field. Also were you filming that stuff without permission?
Vulpyro 1 year ago
"...there's no harm to being lame..." (smiles). So true...thanks for the vids.
MightyTauren 1 year ago
Its also very true when you say that you realized it was just a social gathering. Thats EXACTLY what it is, furries have no hidden agenda, and thats what we've been trying to explain forever. We nerds who are so specific in your dorky hobbies that we have to get together to reconnect, I mean, the internet is only good for so long. Its also the fact that so many people ostracize furries that once in a while we need a place to feel safe and accepted, among friends...its like a family.
gag75 1 year ago
Sorry for that deleted comment on the other video. I guess you can say that the media has left a scar on the fandom that starts to hurt every time the media tries to see whats up. But thank you for keeping an open mind.
I do find it funny though, so many people extremely curious about us like this. I mean, I don't see any anime convection documentaries scrutinizing its attendees the way people do to furries. Anime fans like japanese cartoons, furry fans like animal cartoons. *shrug*.
gag75 1 year ago
@gag75 Aaaaand...the anime cons have girls wearing next to nothing. But nooo just because furries wear full suits they automaticaly think we are hiding something. Nope not hiding a thing. In truth furries are pretty much more into acting silly in their fursuits...well thats what i have seen at least.

fantastic fantastic fantastic subpixel! so glad you guys gave your real opinions on the subject guys. Fascinating topic, makes sense why it took so long to get this out. Keep up the great work!
