  • Chess for me was the vehicle for internal growth....very clever sentence!

  • I applaud Josh Waitzkin. He devoted much of his younger years to chess, but he didn't let it take over his life. Now, as an adult, he has a much more "rounded" personality.

  • @mrpeacelovedope HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • aka never got laid

  • @BigDTinyE It's really not what you do, it's how you present yourself.

Some serial killers got laid too.

  • @BigDTinyE

Yes, your opinion is very truthful, you are well informed.

By the way, you are such a jealous fucking moron projecting a feeble stereotype on a person because that person threatens your hold on your self-esteem.

  • Chess groupies? Yeah right.

I do like his Chessmaster annotations though.

  • Bobby Fischer is Bobby Fischer.

    Josh Waitzkin is Josh Waitzkin.

They're both different people, stop comparing Josh to Bobby- they both made their own names for themselves.

  • Haters gon hate!

  • LOL , that is ridiculous...in my opinion this guy cannot be compared with fischer, look at him , he is tryin be inteligent LOL . Fischer is a brillant man not only a chess master

  • This guy left USA....

  • hi, i like to know, if all that happened in the movie was real....

  • all of you nerd raging, beat josh waitzkin in a game of chess, and then have the right to bitch. yes he may not be bobby fischer, but last i checked, only one man was.

  • @cerrenes Bravo!!!!

  • Inspirational.

  • DOUCHE.

  • @acdcfan1 Thanks for your helpful contribution.

  • Good grief, what a "swell head".

    "As an artist..." blah blah.

  • @herbal1971 He is an artist. He is also a sportsman.

  • @herbal1971

Good grief, what a dumb and shallow opinion.

Don't wander in such places if they threaten you, if you not only cannot appreciate them but you even somehow come to a view that somehow makes you think that you are somehow in a position to criticise it, just like that, as if it was as shallow and dumb as your opinion about it.

  • @herbal1971

I mean, such a dumb, typically judgemental and critical, shallow opinion actually gets 5 up votes and makes it to the top. Fucking morons.

How the fuck did you even end up looking at the comments section about a chess player. Fucking morons.

"swell head". "blah blah". Yeah.. swell head...then you go listen to Lady Gaga or Bullet for my Valentine or whatever who is a legitimate artist..and you have a problem with a chess grandmaster refering to chess as art...YOU FUCKING MORONS

  • lol dude lost his game because he was getting too much pussy.

  • @Sconz32 dude this cracked me the fuck up. Thanks!

  • @Sconz32 Pussy is bad for you chess... or is it the other way around?

  • ur not a prodigy unless you make it into the top 20 of the world

  • What an humble hero! ^^...

  • It's hard to argue that he is not faggoty and ugly. Sorry

  • @cracknik - Your comment is indeed 'sorry.' Asshat

  • @Ziggy2016 come on dude, you played nude

checkers, with David Letterman, and also lost!

What I remember about you, the rook pawn

opening! Some people are so shocked, they

wonder what's this about, I told them, Ziggy

is very dumb, he would rather show a woman

his H-4 opening, than his penis. He's a fag!!

  • @Ziggy2016 I know why you are so angry, I remember

in September 2009, I played you in chess, I checkmated

you in 14 moves, you were white, and I was black.

You are a very bad player. I told you this, and then

you told me how you were molested as a child, I

felt sorry for you, I still do!

How about, if you send me a more respectful

note, I'll explain life to you! Being gay, isn't the

end of the world, it's your mother's fault.

  • @Ziggy2016 shit bird, you prove my point@

you are a very dumb person, which is not my

problem, you are an inferior person, a laughable

joke, a shit bird, you sound like an effeminate

man, who fearing contact with women, would

    prefer, to annoying your better!

"Now go home and get your fuckin' shine

    box"!

  • @Ziggy2016 he's a bum? Man, I'm sure you are an

intelligent person, but, that's the problem.

Ziggy, your comment, shows, you have to

go back to the drawing board. As a human

being, you don't have the goods.

  • @mindofajedi...listen idiot, 'josh wanskin world class'? who are u trying to kid? there are over a 1000 GMs in the world, and wankskin isnt one of them. so what exactly is 'world class'? you think anand and topo and carlsen fear the likes of him? dream on. and i see that anyone who doesnt have yr opinions is 'talentless', well for your info i am a member of the england corr. chess team and have so far won all my games. so, wrong on all counts eh. so much for assumptions.

  • This bastard used the name of Bobby Fischer to his advantage. Actually it could be his dad who's the bastard or both... I don't have the time to analyze how did they use the situation to their advantage....

  • ...in 1992 in Albany, I played Josh to a

draw in a tournament game. Reached

a knight and three pawns endgame.

  • ppl have only heard of this guy cuz of that corny made for tv movie. if he was russian no one wud ever have heard of him. we all know US chess standards are not all that, so i guess he is just the best u guys have got. wow, the US produced an IM, in a world of over 1000 GMs. why single him out then?? he isnt a special talent at all. all of the top 50 (maybe even top 200) players in the world are stronger. time has proved that point beyond a doubt now.

  • @ooooooohmy Listen idiot , he is a world class chess player and a world class martial artist . I'm sure you have never been very talented at anything , but don't try to put down people who are smarter than you to build your self esteem .

  • @ooooooohmy He's also the personal tutor on Chessmaster 10th Edition

  • He is blaming the spotlight for his downfall. Don't blame other people. Point the finger at yourself.

  • There is this book call "How life inmitates Chess" by Gary Kasparov is inline with the view of using chess/art to work your understanding to life.

  • Comment removed

  • At least he lost the annoying lisp!

  • alas this guy is no kind of prodigy he never became a grandmaster. i dont deny that he is talented but nothing like carlsen who is a true prodigy.

  • @cuevasdecamuy

    prodigy or not''

he was never a a great player or world champion

  • @blackoil911 The world championship under 18 something like that (it was not the World Championship as in challenging Anand or any of those guys), and if you believe and IM is not a great player then you are crazy..BTW he was a "strong" IM, he was over 2500 at one point and stayed there for a while, but he quit before getting all the GM norms.

  • @cuevasdecamuy

    your a idiot

his rating is only around 2500

even the old players were much sstronger that joshy boy

  • @blackoil911 Dude so its 2500? he is still amazing I mean grandmasters have rating of 2700 and the CPU virtual chessmaster has a rating of 2800.

  • @emotionalpunkboy

pff there a whole whack of grandmasters at 2500

at a 2700 level is totally way stronger , josh was never a great chess player

even bobby fischer would crush josh in a match

  • @blackoil911 Not a great chess player? Yeah, an 11 year old a with draw against Kasparov isn't a great chess player. Who did you beat when you were 11 years old? You will never match his ability, so why should anyone take your premise that he is not a great player seriously?

    '

  • @dkspartan1

your moron'''' josh was no way a great chess player let me rephraze for the dumb ass'''' KAsprov karpov alekhine capablanca were all world title holders'''' josh was none of that''' it was his right to decide to join or not 2''' but its my right to come to a conclusion he wasnt great cuz of that'''' and also fischer ran away from karpov shame

  • @blackoil911 He didn't run away from Karpov you moronic idiot. Learn your history before running your uneducated mouth. Karpov is the one who decided not to play Fischer. Fischer had every stipulation that was fair, but Karpov wouldn't play him.

  • You do not have to be the best prodigy in the world to be a prodigy at something. Also, he could have been a GM if he wanted that...this is a known fact, period. Anyone that becomes an IM in their teens can easily go on to become a GM if they want to.

  • @eugdog106 The dude was a fucking prodigy. Period. Do one.

  • carlsen is better than fischer. his rating is better than fischer's. Carlsen is number 3!! at 18. That's ridiculous

  • Waitzken was like numerous child prodigies before him. They are all hailed as the "next fischer", but rarely doesn that ever happen.

Waitzken was a bust as a player. He peaked at around 2500 Elo, well below the level of play needed to be considered "world class".

Magnus Carlsen is the current golden boy of chess. 18 years old, ranked in the world's top ten as a player and has a good chance of becoming the world champ someday.

  • Lol I'm not sure what kind of standards you have but reaching 2500 as a chess player can hardly be considered a bust ESPECIALLY as a junior. If you want to say it's a bust as a professional, OK, I hear ya. But to accomplish that as a junior... that's rare.

  • lmao thinks hes hella badass "There were girls at my chess tournaments asking to sign their stomachs." Wow youre such a baller man, sure youre getting some grade A ass

  • i just saw that movie yesterday. amazing movie. rly touching

  • John Waitzkin hasn't achieved as much as top chess players in the world, because he was concentrating on two things: chess and marcial arts. You have to be totally focused on one thing and isolate yourself from everything else in order to achieve very high level of perfomance.

  • The cool kid from the movie would never turn out to become this guy.. He's so full of himself, but has he gotten close to the great expectations? The next Bobby Fischer, give me a break.. This guy is an IM and he's getting close to the age of 30... His nemesis from the movie is probably top 5 in the world right now xD

  • He drew with Kasparov :)

  • When?....

  • in simultaneous chess game, I don't know when it was

  • Sorry is a simultaneous when a player plays many diffrent oppents at once?

  • yes, I think Kasparov wouldn't draw in game one by one

  • So i assume Waitzkin was still pretty young? I cant imagine Josh being in his late teens or adult and playing a simultaneous match if you know what i mean, and i agree he would lose to kasparov head to head, thats why i was shocked when i read what you said

  • Kasparov was playing simultaneous chess game, not Josh :)))))))

  • what?

  • Kasparov was playing with many players, not Josh, but Waitzkin was 11 years old

  • Thats what i meant, i was asking what his age was. Thanks

  • @Raziehl He and K. K. Karanja drew, but Kasparov was playing simultaneously against 57 other youngsters.

  • @Raziehl lol..he drew with kasparov in FUCKING SIMULTANEOUS MATCH . DAMN!!!!!

  • @Raziehl and I think he was only eleven when he did it

  • is he a GM>?

  • He is an IM.

  • If Bobby didn't make an apperance on this movie then why put his name on the title? I guess they did that to get more grab more attention, since Bobby Fischer was a chess legend.

  • It was a title with a different meaning. The title basically means 'Searching for the NEXT Bobby Fischer'.

  • It was the name of the book.

The Ben Kingsley character (Pandolfini) is searching for the next Bobby Fischer, as are many of the parents. This is the conflict between Josh's parents and between Josh and his father and his coach; they see his tender heart as a weakness. Josh refuses to become like Bobby Fischer and still becomes champion.

  • Actually no. The movie is called "Searching for Bobby Fischer" because it was based on his father Fred Waitzkin's book "Searching for Bobby Fischer". Kinda like the "lord of the rings" films are based on the books "lord of the rings". They didn't call it "Frodo's journeys" cus it wouldn't make much sense to base a movie off a book and then change the title to something different. That'd be a slap in the face to the author.

  • bobby didnt make one cent from this movie

  • I'm secure enough not to need inspiration from others but I don't share your insecurity or arrogance to believe that other people couldn't use it. Must be easy to stay on the fence and criticize anything that doesn't adhere to your warped sense of how the real world is. Maybe someday you'll grow some balls and believe in something better than your self-righteousness.

  • rip to bobby fischer. ;)

  • yea...right ur mama

  • ooooohhhhhhhhh your momma fight

  • LOL

  • I have no idea what your problem is or what you seem to be implying...

  • The first post appeared to be deleted.

  • It is a weird statement. I think he meant that he became self-aware while he was playing. Fischer actually had the same problem, which is why he started making those crazy demands about playing far away from crowds and the like. He was scared to lose or make a mistake because of the spotlight on him. See the "Karpov on Fischer" video that's also on Youtube.
