Just bought a brand new 160GB Ps3 last week and it makes that noise non-stop when playing Call of Duty MW3. So bad I had to return the game. Uncharted 3 didn't make any noise like Mw3 did. BAD mistake by PS3 and MW3, they will lose a lot of money from this bad quality PS3s:( Cant even install games to run them more silent.

I found out that when you download different updates it either stops making the noise or starts making the noise , so your ps3 changes to different updates , also when new updates come on the games like mw3 it will stop or start .
Ok there is a solution ! When the you hear the noise if you lift ps3 noise stops . So mount the console to a vertical objective like Tables or desk surface . Do not leave space at the left or right side of the console
my brother-in-laws makes a really funky sound when we put a disk in. It sound so bad I eject the disk right away. He said one of his sons put more then one disk in. I got one out and took it apart and nothing was in it. So that was a wasted task. I'm not sure how to fix it but I'm going to give it a try but I'm just not sure what the problem is.

If your PS3s are still working fine even if you get this kind of noise, you don't have anything to worry about. Discs spin at very high speeds. The noise is most likely caused from the magnetic spindle on the top surface of the drive that holds discs in place while they are being read. There's a slight gap between the spindle and the casing of the drive.
And this sound is NOT being caused by the hard drive. It's secured by screws and doesn't vibrate enough to make that kind of noise.

@SamFisherCell The hard drive is for storing photos, music, videos, game demos and save files. You can't install games on the hard drive due to the size of Blu-Ray discs (ranging between 25GB and 50GB) so it wouldn't be very practical to do, although some hacks are available with custom firmware and Homebrew that makes this possible.

@bhooowan3 If it's not affecting normal gameplay, I suggest you keep your money. No use in wasting valuable dollars for something that wouldn't cause damage to your games or the Blu-Ray drive itself lol
The probroblem with mines is that when i turn on my ps3 it starts to make ejecting noise then a loud fan noise , i cant stick a disc in but i can eject a disc and the only way i can insert a disc is if i hold the eject button for 10 seconds and wait for the 3rd sound to stick disc in and it wont read disc to can anyone tell me a solution to my problem?
If you ask me it has nothing to do with the PS3 being dirty or the fan or anything. It's the BD Unit while reading the disc, the same thing happens to me with 2 specific games and those 2 only: Red Dead Redemption (makes a lot less noise) and Batman Arkham Asylum, which does exactly the same that you can hear on this video. For who knows what reason those discs make the unit vibrate so hard that it can be heard. If I put any of my other games it goes silent, it's always those 2.
Yea, i found a way to fix it without dis assembling your ps3. First you have too clean the ps3 because it is just a dust clauge up then let the ps3 sit there 4 about an hour and the sound will go away.
yea i just started getting the problem and i called sony and greek squad but geek swuad said they cant fix it so sony has to fix it but the problem is you have to pay $20 shipping and $180 to fix it so ima sell some games, controllers, and my ps3 and buy a new one

When i put my ps3 on a table, something inside the ps3 rattles. It sounds like something is loose in the disc drive. Is it normal?
