  • When I played this song on the radio at WIZZ FM in Harrisburg Pa. back in the 80's, the phone would light up. I received the 12" promo and back in the day, DJ's ran the music industry before video came on the scene. This was one of those songs that made other DJ's come running up to booth and ask, who is this and where can I get It!..The vocals on here were in the stratosphere! Thank you Smoke City for the memories..Herbie Hall

  • It's a Damn shame that 5 people can not and do not Dream about being in Love not only with someone but even with themselves! This sung is the TRUTH, SO I SUGGEST TO THEM GO OUT AND USE YOUR IMAGINATION AND THEN FROM THERE START PRACTICING DREAMING AT NIGHT AND MAYBE YOU MIGHT FALL IN LOVE.

  • "ONE MUST BE IN LOVE/SHARED A LOVE", TO APPRECIATE, THIS SONG! "YOU GOT, MY HEART IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND"-NO OTHER/BETTER WAY, IN EXPRESSING, "THE HOLD OF YOUR LOVE WITHIN! THIS SONG,TRULY TOUCHES

    , MY HEART,PAST/PRESENT!

  • This song gives me goosebumps!!! It reminds me of when I knew I couldn't live without my girlfriend(now my wife of 13 years). I never thought I could find such a woman, but God blessed me with her.

  • This is one of my favorites!

  • I was too young to really know what these words meant when it first hit the airwaves. I just thought it was a beautiful song. NOW I know what Smoke City was talking about!

  • I lived around the corner from Zeke and I remember them very well.

  • This is thre real smoke city right here! I remember this came out the year The newyork Mets were in a penant chase withe the St. Louis Cardinals. I was in the 6 th grade I had a crush on 2 girls Lechelle and Jessica.

  • what year is this.

  • @themythriller 1985, late-summer, not to be confused with the mid-1990s U.K. band of the same name. If my memory serves me correctly, this song went to #3 on the Billboard R&B singles chart. WRKS 98.7 'Kiss' FM in NYC played this relentlessly in '85.

  • Smoke City I remember the first time I visted Wash. DC and heard this song..I brought the 12in immediately...lol...im telling my age...but it was the Jam...I miss going to the club and slow draggin to the slow songs...WOW...everything does change...its too bad the kids of today dont get to experience this....

  • @brwabrown I'd like to believe that we do, but it's only a select few.

  • whats up aj pleased to see your here with us on youtube man i love smokecity

i played this song i can bet atleast 20 times a day still old is this song is it still sounds like back in the day hope you guys get back together ill be there with now my wife love ya bro

  • Hi AJ what will the group do in terms of the Name? It seems a European group performs under it?

  • This was the cut back in the day. Oh yes , Smoke City needs to get back together.

  • This is one of the most outstanding songs of 20th century R&B. The lead singers sing with so much passion and heart, as if they sing from experience. And the back up voices are a perfect complement, a haunting symphony. After I wore out my 33 LP it took me years to finally find it again in iTunes, and it sounds as fresh today as it did when I first heard it over 20 years ago.

  • I heard this song for the first time on KJLH Compton two weeks ago. It stirs my heart for the one and only love of my heart.. It took twenty years for us to find our way back to each other. Does anyone have the words written someplace for this song.

  • @geminiwoman0 20 years? O_O Wow congrats!

  • OMG! I absolutely adore this song, I grew up listening to it and I lost touch with the song and yesterday I heard it on a radio station in N.Y. and it was a tear jerker, it brought back so many many memories good and bad. I am so happy that I heard it, but I couldn't find it all yesterday, so I did a music search for 5 hours and I found it. This is a classic.

  • @MasterMayheim Please be there!

  • @MasterMayheim Who are the members of this group? My mother LOVES this song! I think it's cool too :-)

  • @MasterMayheim

I love this song. I sing this song quite a bit. A lot of people ask me who sing that song and I tell them it's Smoke City. They don't know what I'm talking about because it's a new era. This song has so much meaning. Hopefully you do come back and I can't wait to hear the remake of this song.

  • @MasterMayheim Well God bless Aj. It would be a treat to us, to be able to hear some new stuff, or some stuff we haven't heard before by you all. This song dreams is actually the only song by y'all, that I'm familiar with, but that's alright, because this is an extremely special and endearing song ! This song is love. Peace

  • @MasterMayheim Man this is truly music! These young artist can learn a lot from the pioneers.

  • @MasterMayheim Please come back DAMN I've searched for this song for as long as I can remember great great great song I love it and wish you all the success with in the future

  • Great Post!!!

  • Does anyone know where I can find more info on this old school group? I go to "WikiPedia" and a British band of the same name was spoke of. And good ole "Soulwalking" didn't have them listed to my surprise! The group was popular enough to me back in the day....lol ok...Help!

  • I believe, I found major info on this group, by doing a search on google. I was playing around with different search engines while on google. Try "Who is Smoke City" or Who performed " Dreams"? I'm sorry, I cannot be more helpful, it was over a year ago. This is one of my favorite songs, I hope this helps!

  • Thanks for your help!....I appreciate it!

  • Question...do you or anyone know who sings "Starting all Over"...I think that's the name of the other song I've been looking for that came out in the 80's, maybe late 70's but I'm pretty sure it was 80's. Thought it was Rene & Angela....nope!...lol

They keep repeating "starting all over" towards the end and throughout the song...help?

  • If this is song, I am thinking of, it has been recorded by several artist, including:

Clarence Carter/Joe Sample w Randy Crawford/Bobby Blue Band/Gwen McCrae and JohnnyTaylor (my favorite version). I do not know who recorded it first, but JT's version was featured on his 1994 "Taylored in Silk" album. I am sure, it is still, in publication. A line from the song is: Starting all over as friends, is gonna be rough, on us, but we gotta face it. Hope this helps!

  • Diva61, thanks, this one is ah hard one!.....LOL But the one I'm talking about was a guy and a woman, they kept repeating the phrase, "starting all ovah, starting-all-ovahhah, starting all ovah"...lol It's funny trying to type how you hear the song played in your head, but I hope this little bit more helps. If anyone else knows the one I'm talking about, plz feel free to tell me. Again, this one came out in the 80's.....nice tune.

  • Oh, and, I could have the "title" of the song wrong too. I just know that's what they kept repeating, so I figured that "had" to the song title. You know what I mean? But that's not always the case. I been digging hard for this jam. I'm calling WHUR, but they not picking up!.....lol

  • I believe, we are thinking of the same son, you have the title correct. It is entitled "Starting Over", and each part of the chorus begins with "Starting All Over"..etc. I am not familiar with "WHUR', but when, I'm not sure of a song, I log on to IMEEN and type the possible title. It is free, let me know, if this is the song your are speaking of!

  • Yea, I have IMEEM, and I've gone to CD Universe too. But everytime I key in "Starting All Over", other songs are represented, not the one I'm looking for :( I'll keep on trying to get the radio station, cause somebody there really should know. I just don't remember the artist for some reason, I always liked the song, but then it's been 20+ yrs....lol

  • I see, there is a female voice singing, on the version by johnny taylor, and I think, the version by Bobby Blue Band, as well. However, the singer is not identified in any of the listings. Often, the artist will be identified on the ablum or cd notes, but not on the different mediums we use to currently obtain music. I am wondering, if Peaches and Herb, did a version of this, song as well. I have a couple of other areas to check, if I come up with anything, I will let you know.

  • Ok thanks!...and thanks for tagging along with me on this one! We'll find it....lol..... :)

  • LOL as well, this is racking my brain now. I just remembered a female/male group from the 80's. I cannot think of their name. Was the song a hit, or like the "B' side of single. Was it up or slow tempo? Did BET show a video for it?

  • I would put it at a medium tempo, definitely not a fast song. Something you put on and just chill with. But not slow tempo either. The lead would sing, "starting all ohvahh", then the chorus would come in and repeat, "starting all over", lead, "starting all ovahh", chorus "startin all ovahhah"....I'm putting the emphasis on the words by trying to spell out how it was being sung....hope that make some sense. Maybe you or someone can hear it in your head a little better...lol Hope that helped

  • @blukper the artist and group you're looking for is...... Slave ft. Steve Arrington...starting over. and yes ,this was an all time great also. hit me up any time. i got what you need

  • Diva61, I finally got the artist of the song that I'd been looking for! With the help of TootieH, the song was "Starting Over" by Slave!......LOL All this time, well now you know too, and thanks for your help!

  • @blukpe I am so glad to hear, your search is over! I'm going, to look this one up, right now and listen to it!

  • @blukper OMG! I completely forgot about this song! My ex was a big SLAVE fan! He would follow "JUST A TOUCH OF LOVE" up with this one! I am really feeling my age today! Thanks, for sharing this with me!

  • and forgive my typing..lol

  • Hey guys...Aj, the original drummer and one of the foundind members..we are getting back together because the request have been overwhelming and thanks so much to our fans. If interested in seeing us, let me know...we're working on some things now..ok?!?!

  • I live in chicago and want to see yall!!!

  • Wow, I have had this song on a cassette tape as one on my most favorite songs: recorded from the Washington DC 'quiet storm' station and now transferred to mp3. Thanks for posting this: many people will be happy!!!

  • Man I have been looking for this song I asked a dj who ever I could and here it is I want a copy shoot

  • God I had this on an old tape and didn't know who it was by. I was thinking Whitney at one point. Can't believe I have found it! It is so nostalgic for me from the 80's scence in Tottenham in London. Thanks so much.

  • I've been lloking for this song! Thank goodness I found it b/c of you. Please don't take it away~

  • I absolutely love this song. Back in 2005 I used to work at night and Champagne on WBLS here in NYC started playing it more often everyone thought it was a brand new song but it is not. I have tried since then to get my hands on it. If anyone out there can help me. I would appreciate it.

  • I was a liitle girl when this came out and my sisters and I brought the record and I guess we just liked the song and never paid attention to the lyrics...BUT as an adult I understand the lyrics and they are simply beautiful!!

  • gurl me too! I actually sang it for sisters and her friends when they would come over and RFTW songs!

  • This is one of the best love songs I've heard! still They don't play it a lot but it's good to hear when they do.

  • OH WOW...I've been searching for this gem for a long time!!!!

  • who are the vocalists??one of them sounds like Lorezon for "make love to me" in the 90's

  • God bless you! I remember being in my big sisters room back in the eighties! we lived in the robert taylors in 4410 waiting on the song to come on in rotation around 8 pm on v103 im 29 now and still "so love with" this song!!!

  • Thank you sooooo much 4 posting this, i am a lover of classic jams. being from chicago this is close 2 my heart. icouldnt find a trace of it in wisconsin.... so many thanks again!

  • I remember them performing at Chicago's Coperbox on the South-Side,back in the 70's. Doug Banks-M.C.
