    it actually is japanese, but

you are still half right : )

  • oh~very great...I love this song so much

  • lovely playing and great emotion put into this melodious work by the young lady.

  • Very beautifully played... who is this girl?

  • Beautiful and emotionally evocative play of this haunting masterpiece.

  • bravo

  • wow! that piano is sooo beautiful!!!

and the song is great too :P

  • The girl! ... Don't forget the girl... she's beautiful too ;)

  • hahaha! ...yeah, you're right :P

  • she's spinnig clockwise direction and i call that emotional- one of the things you nid for good piano playing tats wad i'll say XPP

  • yeah! Good thing she's not spinning in a counter-clockwise motion. That would be a HUGE no no, and would destroy her interpretation! Just kidding.....

    Great performance too. :)

  • Yes, it should be a little slower, but otherwise beautifully played. Wonderful job.

  • She moves too much -

  • Believe it or not, it can helps with the musicality of the piece. Watch Richter play the piano and you'll see him move a lot. Horowitz never moved. They were both fantastic.

However, there are those like Lang Lang who take it too far.

  • I think that sometimes movement interferes with and compromises interpretation. She is a sensitive musician but I believe that channeling some of that body movement into her mind and into her fingers would pique the subtle dynamics, energy, and emotional intensity of the piece.

  • Very nice, I think it should be much slower you don't get that longing sense! ADAGIO!

  • very nice playing. Though it has to be said, as is usually the case, the original version sounds so much nicer.

  • its emotional flooding..... overwhelming

  • how beautifull is that piece? you played it exquisitely and was exquisite to whatch you playing it. Ive just been playing Vocalise on my new Steinway D and am floating away after playing it oh a least 10 times tonight in succession. Love it for ever and ever x

  • what movie is this from?

    I reconginize it.

    Hmmmm...

  • actually, this arrangement does not match my mind. music is not a romance film!

  • You are great!!!!!!!

  • Amazing. Love the arrangement.

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • I feel like the people who criticize how much someone moves while they are playing are the ones who are so stiff that their performances are lifeless...

  • It is only recently that the issue of movement in performance has been brought to our wider attention. It was less of a problem before the 21st century, however audiences demand something that not is not just auditaurally pleasing, but also visually pleasing. It seems to be expected in the 21st century school. But take heifetz or rubinstein as an example of your so called 'stiff' + 'lifeless' performances; where you may close your eyes and feel the heavens opening before you, the earth beneath.

  • Good performers play in a way that is enjoyable to watch, I think, though obviously technical issues and musicality come first. (And of course if you move too much to play properly it might be a problem...) I really meant that I would personally rather watch someone who has some physical expressiveness in their playing that can supplement the emotions they are trying to convey. It isn't that a player has to be moving like crazy -- Rubinstein moves subtly, but he still gets "into" it.

  • To ice queen

So your sanging you would rather listen to Lang Lang then Horowitz, or Hoffman, or rubenstien, or cluadio arrau, or ivan morovec, or aji jambor...

    wow

  • Tout bonnement magnifique.

J'adore Rachmaninov ainsi que le piano! :)

  • Why does it matter if a person is moving or not while playing music?? Enjoy the music and a nice interpretation of this piece, rather than looking for something to criticize.

  • i dont think it calls for all the movement

  • some people can perform better by moving like that so there will be more feeling in the music...

  • Moving when you play the piano is a personal thing.

  • moving while playing any instrument is personal. for this performer, it enhances her performance greatly. i've had the pleasure of hosting her twice and it adds to her recital.

  • Your comment is irrelevant. Who cares how much or how little a musician moves? What counts is the music that they produce.

  • I'd say movement is pretty important, if there was no movement she wouldn't even be able to move her fingers. then thered be no point in this comment or that one or thei whole video...

  • I like when pianists move, because It makes the music more soft and not tense.

Of course I don't like when they move like: jumping on the chair or making orgasmic faces :D, because they look like monkeys. I think Daria's movement and expression are perfect.

  • So much nuance ...my favorite rendition of this hauntingly beautiful piece.

  • mirando afero! bona muziko.

  • excellent performance!

  • omg im not supose 2 be here

  • what?

  • Thats so great.Really nice playing.

  • is it only 3mins something because you didnt do the repeat? because the mp3 i have is 6 mins something

  • Wonderful performance!

  • Exquisite!

  • Lovelyplayed, but Kocsis plays it better :S

  • I totally agree with you. I cry when I hear his recording...

  • Can anyone point me to where I can find this recording of Vocalise by Kocsis? I have seen his name mentioned a few times (in regards to this piece) but not sure where to find it. Is it on youtube anyplace?

(I did a quick search, with no luck)

  • excellent playing enjoying the crescendos and diminuendos in this lovely piece of music which flows as the river in summer through the green meadows of my country.Warmest greetings from the Green Isle of Erin.Billstew

  • The new arrangement is in conflict with the idea of the original song. Rachmaninov himself said that this piece was his best composition ever, and the most important thing in this piece is that it's perfectly elegant in it's siplicity. The melody line has nothing too much, and yet it expresses everything very clearly. Every note has an important meaning. I think these extra things added in this version are completely unnecessary, they make the piece glittery in an cheap way.

  • I would agree with you since your comment is valid, in general. However, I treasure this arrangement for its simplicity and delicacy in approach to Rachmaninov's music. I find the ending here to be a true reflection of Rachmaninov's best features: connection with nature and its sounds.

  • very beatuiful

  • oh my god...amazing!!!! love it!

  • gezaanda tu n as donc aucun gout ni respect. "trop nul", quelle reponse abjecte, admire la douceur et la sensibilité de cette interprétion.

  • i always loved this piece: used to do it in a choir. =) 5 stars~

  • Loved this performance !!!! Beautiful !!!! Greetings from Canada......

  • trop nul....

  • Ironically I had written an essay about this in class just a few days ago and i couldn't agree more. it's pretty depressing to think about though..

  • I love you........Great player

  • I totally agree! There are times in history (like the italian renaissance) when the human spirit flowers spectacularly. And other times, (the dark ages, the holocaust) when it may utterly die. It shows how much we must depend on other people, on the condition of society or civilisation, to develop our souls. As socrates say in the symposium, the soul has to be led upwards by the magic of conversation, art and natural beauty.

  • Well, smoothpianist - that was a positive comment (ironic)...I don´t agree with you. There is beautiful art/human love in many ways- today and in the history. It changes, but it´s always there.

  • Exellent performance ! Great sound ! All voices like a choir ! Bravo !

  • Who is the pianist?:-) By the way, nice playing (and dress)!

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!

  • Well done with the clear voicing. I play the kocsis transcription too - i love the decadent ending!

  • lame question, but what brand of piano is that?

  • Problem is that towards the end she made it a bit too complex... The original tone is a bit lost, although still apparent. The interpretation sorts of distracts the listener at the end.

  • you should sing on this one!! :) this is one of the saddest piece I've ever heard.

great interpretation, keep playing, you're talented!!

  • Really? She is Russian pianist Daria RABOTKINA? Very excellent. You should try the Alan Richardson arrangement that Kissin plays. It's not very difficult to me, and I've just had ANOTHER brain-bypass operation

  • Personally I like Earl Wild's - maybe there is a video of it on you-tube.

  • Check out Valery Kuleshov playing Wild's arrangement of this piece.

  • Who is she? Where is she from?

She knows how to make the piano sing very well.

Actually that is quite difficult, indeed.

  • She is russian pianits, Daria RABOTKINA.

  • Could someone please tell me if this piece is in Eb or C minor. And please indicate why it is in either the Major or Minor. This has been worrying me for some time. Thank you.

  • it is written in C# minor. you can find the sheet music here:rachmaninoff, vocalise

transcription pour piano par zoltan kocsis

    editio musica budapest, nr. 12001

  • The original is in E Major

  • If you can listen to this music without a tear in your eye, then you are indeed a hard man and there is probably no hope for you.

  • I love you! Great!!!

  • can anyone tell me, how to get this piece either for piano or for clarinet (in B-flat) with piano accompaniement? Plz help me! :D

  • hy appearia.

editio musica budapest nr. 12484 is for piano and clarinet.

    best wishes from germany, stephan

  • hi!

    Thanks!

Ich komm auch aus Deutschland. xD

    Die Welt ist klein... :D

  • Du? Ich nicht. Aber Ich habe Deutsch fuer drei Jahren gelernt :D

Ja wohl die Welt ist sehr klein!

  • na gut, dann eben nicht! :P

    xD

  • Gorgeous in every way, even though I prefer the Alan Richard arrangement that Kissin performs. 'Babyman9' is right about the filigree, but still it's interesting to hear something new, especially this well-performed. Great. Beautiful. Now how about the Op. 23 preludes?

  • This young lady understands pain, love and beauty. This cannot be taught - merely coached. And unless she is studying with me, I hope she retains her voice and doesn't get cookie-cut in a conservatory. Not a fan of Koscis' (who arranged this for the piano) arpeggiated coda. It is too filagree a place to go after the stunning dialogue. The harmonies evaporate in the busyness. So I play my own coda with his first three pages-which could not have been done better by Rachmaninov himself.

  • Bravo! You play very beautifully!!

  • the melody speaks for itself, I think it is universal and can be beautiful on any instrument.

  • I played this peice for my grade 6 saxophone and I still play it because it's such a good peice
