@cypphherx On this side of the bridge where I drop down, there are about four places you can drop down from.. maybe more, but definitely four. If you have a PAL Xbox you can drop down in a turret. Then, you can drop down from the ledges on the other side of the bridge a few ways too, but those are more difficult to do and I've never done them.
I've tried this many hundreds of times but without ever any hint of being able to slow down enough to stop from going off the edge. Best I've done is to hear two footsteps first. I now suspect there's some difference that makes it actually impossible for me. I have PAL and I assume you have NTSC. Still, your vid has been the most useful thing yet because you're looking down so I can tell where I'm supposed to land (from dark patches on the ledge). Are you crouching as you hit?
@BadCyborgMovies Hmm.. I forgot about PAL boxes. I don't know if PAL users are able to do this. However, there is a way PAL users can get down that NTSC users can't do, by using a shade. I saw you comments on domdunc's video, but he just uses the shade to get down to the one ledge. If you use the other shade and throw a grenade, it is possible to ride in the shade all the way to the bottom of the valley because of the PAL's slightly longer fall timer due to the framerate. Try it out!
@scurty2 Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure I follow your description about the trick with the "other shade" - I assume you mean the one on the left as you arrive on the bridge. Could you clarify? You surely didn't mean to just grenade it off and ride all the way down without hitting anything? I'd die before getting there. If it's some method I don't know about, I'd definitely like to add it to my list!
@BadCyborgMovies Yeah, use the left shade. Grenade it, hop in, and try to have it just barely hit the side of the cliff (like in domdunc's video, except you don't get out of it) and then drop down to the ground, you should just barely survive. It's hard for me to explain because I can't find a video of it and I never fooled around with the shade because there was no hope for my NTSC player to survive the fall timer.
Ah, ok. Wouldn't that work just as well on the right though? However, I've just tried both. I couldn't graze the cliff on the left as there's a high ledge (the top of the 'V') which sticks out and tends to intercept you. Grazing the cliff on the *right* is viable but tends to jolt me out as usual; so the plan seems dubious (unlike letting that Shade just sail down to bounce off the ledge, which works nicely). Maybe I'm missing some detail?
@BadCyborgMovies I found the video I was looking for.. and it was actually on the right shade as opposed to the left one which I originally thought. watch?v=rmQOXo2Mw2k.. just tag that at the end of the youtube url... the difference between this and domdunc's is that he actually stays in the turret the whole time. It's still a very hard trick, definitely not easy. Hope you have better luck!
@scurty2 Actually I know that method (it's what I hinted at in my comment for the domdunc vid) and I bumped into that speedrun vid a few weeks ago - but thanks anyway. Boarding the Shade takes a bit of a knack but it can be a really nice ride down from there if you've got PAL. By the way, I'd still be interested to know if you're doing a crouch as you hit the ledge, for xbill's method in your vid.
@BadCyborgMovies Oh, sorry, I forget to answer that. I don't crouch, I stand the entire time, crouching would either make you die from the fall timer or just shoot you straight off the cliff because you can't run as fast when you are crouched. The whole idea is that you are running towards the wall the entire time so you don't slide off. If you are crouched, you can't run as fast and go off the edge for sure.
@scurty2 Ok, I can see how that makes sense (and it tallies with advice someone else gave me). Separate query: why are you doing melee as you run along the cliff? I also noticed you doing it after you landed on the ground in your other descent vid.
Aw, thank you so much for posting! I found this while playing yesterday and got really pissed because I'd die when dropping down to the second ledge! Now that I know its possible I'm going to try it again!
do scurty's "harder" method on ur Halo PC. It works around one in 20 tries for me. I go and get the checkpoint right after so I can have the level with no enemies.
