Just saw the movie last night, and it was great! Really like the make-up work on monster, the main demon totally looks like a young Jabba the Hutt or Mojo form the x-men. I think that guy who got punched in 0:41 is the same actor who played Van in Reba.
I saw the movie for the first time last night, I loved it. I think that Trevor Matthews who plays Jack Brooks will become the new Bruce Campbell. Jack Brooks will become a cult movie and I believe they're making a sequel, I can't wait.

heheh u need to take it easy man^-^ Being aware of the roots of cinematography has very little effect on how much entertainment you get out of a film or on how much you can appreciate skillful storytelling. When discussing "artsy" topics everyone's opinion weighs the same regardless of how "educated" they are on the particular field. It's not like having a masters in film history or memorizing the work of Poe or Homer etc makes you more conscious of what you like and don't like about a movie.
i got heated only because some dummy was saying the movies of the 70's created the art of storytelling. he was talking about how this film and all horror films since the 70's have been total let downs and nothing new has come out. i brought up those writers because i was pointing out that he was retarded
Shakespeare stole the majority of his works, or based it on older stories. Aristotle poetics is the most often used source for the art of story telling in film. Stories are as old as civilisation, every culture has them, look at the Ramayana, The Bible or the cycles of the British Isles. it wasn't shakespeare who invented. Nor did he create the original stories, as the Russian say there are only 17 stories in the world.
I would say many horror films are inspired more from the works of H.P. Lovecraft than Poe. Just my two cents. Anyway, Netflix is sending me this movie today. I CAN'T WAIT!
Oh poor stupid LORDEZE7. My point was those super amazingly original movies you are talking about from the 70's and 80's wouldnt even exist if it werent for edgar allen poe or shakespeare. Plus those super original ideas were ripped off from poe and shakespeare. read their stuff sometime. Everything horror and the entire horror genre wouldnt exist if not for poes blueprints!!! No they didnt direct films, but the directors and writers of the films you gush over were ripped off from poe!!! dumbass
In that case poe and shakespear ripped off the Epic of Gilgamesh. What the hell is your point? THeir stuff ain't original either. I've read their work and the horror genre did not depend on Edgar Allen Poe's writings. Sure some themes are similiar but that's about it. Did Poe write the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Nightmare on Elm STreet? Night of the Living Dead? Don't think so man. Those movies would still exist because they are social commentaries on modern society not a play or poem.PWND
First off there is no is use in putting this movie down. It doesn't even take itself seriously with a title like that. It is what it is, an entertaining B-flick. Whoever comes on here arguing how stupid it is-what did you expect? Just sit back, put tongue firmly in cheek and enjoy.
Just watched this movie and i found it quite ENTERTAINING which is what i tought movies are supposed to be!! "blah blah blah, im better then everyone, blah blah theres nothing original blah blah!" get over yourself you uppity assclown! everything from 20 and 30 years ago was ripped off! Fuck off "Catabolic." YOU'RE the assclown. Can't take it in the ass so you try to retaliate with a weak argument. Yeah I've heard of Poe and Shakespear bitch, what's your point? Those guys made poems, sonnets, and plays, not MOVIES.
Movies from 20 and 30 years ago were Original because they had never been done before. Or am I mistaken and did Shakespear and Poe direct films???? Piss off kid and go watch your remakes, which is apparently all you like.
@lukem I agree that you can say Plays are movies that are recorded, but to call them that is unfair. A film is an art style of it's own. And you're right everything is a rip off of evertyhing THESE DAYS. But I wasn't talking about these days, I'm talking about stuff from the 1970s and below. That was mostly original stuff. No play, song, movie, or poem existed about "The Texas CHainsaw Massacre, Nigthmare on ELm street...etc therefore they are original movies. That's how I tell em apart.

This is a lame B-movie, with a totally predictable storyline, boy loses family, grows up, rediscovers monster, fights monster, wins..... brings us back to the Freddy Cruger days, boohoo, it sucks.
Predictable storyline? Yeah cuz I can't count the number of movies today that have that exact same story as this fucking movie. Seriously you guys just need to STFU and stop acting like movie buffs. YOu don't know shit. You think movies coming out today are original when they're nothing but remakes of good shit from 20 - 30 years ago. At least this movie tries. Unlike the gay shit you guys love, such as Prom Night, Stranger Calls, The Grudge, etc.. Fuck CG, at least until it looks better.
stop playing WoW febxxxx you fucking loser, get out more and see movies that take some creative effort over CGI spam like the terrible horror films today. Jack FTW! he gonna get my money. Lame monsters? Why because they are fucking awsome and disgusting and you cant handle them? Ok too gross for the pussies out there, fair enough. Take your girlfriend to some shitty sequel to the Eye with Jessica Alba you shitty movie sluts. Best horror film to debut since Grindhouse's Planet Terror.

Fuckin' A! You tell those niggers. I was born in the mid 80's and so I grew up with a lot of the stuff from back then and I LOVE IT. It pisses me off that now-a-days kids hate on old school horror and think that the current stuff out is the shit. Ironic since it's nothing but fucking remakes of good old shit from the 70's and 80's. I swear this is the generation of Remakes and adaptations from comic books/video games. We need new creative shit, especially in the horror genre. NO CG!
horror - Imprint, 3 extremes, Uzumaki, Red Shoes...then we have the classics that american cinema has ripped-off: Kairo, Ringu, Dark Water, The Eye, Ju-on, Into the Mirror, Evil Dead Trap, and much much more
crazy - Battle Royale, Suicide Club, Gozu, Ichi the Killer, Oldboy, Fudoh, actally anything from Takashi Miike
youtube the trailers for these movies and welcome to the world of asian cinema
Takashi Miike is my all-time favorite director. My top 10 Miike Movies 10.Ichi the Killer 9.Yakuza Demon 8.Bird People of China 7.The Audition 6.Visitor Q 5.Zebraman 4.Imprint 3.Deadly Outlaw Rekka 2.Gozu 1.Fudoh: The Next Generations still haven't seen The Happiness of the Katakuris
i'm 16 and i love 80s flicks. more original, no dumbass CG crap that's pretty much intentinally making it looking fake. actual makeup/puppetry all the way!
what's with the hostility towards CG effects? There have been amazing films shot entirely without CG(eg Alien, Aliens)but the majority of horror/monster flicks were just as terrible during the golden age of animatronics as they are now. People tend to recall older films they liked and to forget the plethora of crap released during the same time. CG is an amazing technique if used purposefully and tastefully. If you don't like the music it's more likely you don't like the pianist than the piano.
you make a good point. i just don't like how lazy film makers are with it. they half ass because they get the general idea of their imagination more easier. if you work on it long and hard, you would'nt be able to tell if it was CG effects. for instance - Rob Zombie's "The Devil's Rejects" was completely shot in CG with the scenary and it was done so well
I don't think laziness has as much to do with it as cost and time management. People often get the impression that CG is easy and fast cause it's rendered in the computer but it's not like a pc downloads the special effects straight from the director's imagination. Much like painting or sculpting, creating a CG work takes forever if you want to make it look truly awesome but CG artists have a very strict time schedule to stick to. Every director and CG artist would like their CG to look amazing.
I think the CGI hatred is more than justified. It's taken cinema a step back as far as I'm concerned. Makes me feel like I'm watching a fucking video game. I would also say that even amidst all the crap that was released during the 80s (I personally think the output back then was way better than today), at least the effects looked good. You know why? Because they were TANGIBLE.
It's taken cinema a step back? In what way? There are great films (aliens, the never ending story, beatlejuice, the nightmare before christmass, ghost busters, etc) that featured no or hardly any cg but what makes them so convincing is the cinematography and concepts/character design. The horror/sci-fi/fantasy genres have always been ripe with garbage. The monster in this film was "tangible" but did u honestly think it looked "real"? It was intentionally 80s style but still c'mon lol
Honestly CG can be good and there are films where it has worked very well, mainly high budget films (Spider Man2, NOT part 1 though)
It is being used more and more often nowadays. Sometimes I ask why. Why was there fake ass looking cg blood in the devil's rejects? The movie was genuinely creepy and had me going but the cg blood was stupid.
Movies like John's Carpenter's The Thing have awesome effects without CG. I have yet to see a HORROR film with CG effects that believable.
Just watched this on sci fi and I gotta say all these actors were pretty good.

Movies from 20 and 30 years ago were Original because they had never been done before. Or am I mistaken and did Shakespear and Poe direct films???? Piss off kid and go watch your remakes, which is apparently all you like.
LORDEZE7 3 years ago
What do you think films are?
They're just plays that are recorded pretty much.
Plus everything is a rip off of everything these days.
Just take a film for what it is and stop trying to be original.
lukem 3 years ago
@lukem I agree that you can say Plays are movies that are recorded, but to call them that is unfair. A film is an art style of it's own. And you're right everything is a rip off of evertyhing THESE DAYS. But I wasn't talking about these days, I'm talking about stuff from the 1970s and below. That was mostly original stuff. No play, song, movie, or poem existed about "The Texas CHainsaw Massacre, Nigthmare on ELm street...etc therefore they are original movies. That's how I tell em apart.
LORDEZE7 3 years ago
That's you're point and others have got theirs. Lets just leave it at that stop all the conflict.

This is a lame B-movie, with a totally predictable storyline, boy loses family, grows up, rediscovers monster, fights monster, wins..... brings us back to the Freddy Cruger days, boohoo, it sucks.
pinkpatty04 3 years ago
Predictable storyline? Yeah cuz I can't count the number of movies today that have that exact same story as this fucking movie. Seriously you guys just need to STFU and stop acting like movie buffs. YOu don't know shit. You think movies coming out today are original when they're nothing but remakes of good shit from 20 - 30 years ago. At least this movie tries. Unlike the gay shit you guys love, such as Prom Night, Stranger Calls, The Grudge, etc.. Fuck CG, at least until it looks better.

NO CG!

that's why I watch asian cinema, they're always one step ahead of us in the originality department

horror or just crazy bad ass movies?
horror - Imprint, 3 extremes, Uzumaki, Red Shoes...then we have the classics that american cinema has ripped-off: Kairo, Ringu, Dark Water, The Eye, Ju-on, Into the Mirror, Evil Dead Trap, and much much more
crazy - Battle Royale, Suicide Club, Gozu, Ichi the Killer, Oldboy, Fudoh, actally anything from Takashi Miike
youtube the trailers for these movies and welcome to the world of asian cinema
ali711arab 3 years ago
Thanks man. I agree, asian cinema is really kick ass.

u could also add on Guinea Pig: The Flower of Flesh and Blood, and audition was awesome(cough cough, Takashi Miike)

Off with plastic masks and make up... CG FOREVER!!! Off with the past, let us move forth into the future!
pinkpatty04 3 years ago
i'm 16 and i love 80s flicks. more original, no dumbass CG crap that's pretty much intentinally making it looking fake. actual makeup/puppetry all the way!
KISSfan888 3 years ago
what's with the hostility towards CG effects? There have been amazing films shot entirely without CG(eg Alien, Aliens)but the majority of horror/monster flicks were just as terrible during the golden age of animatronics as they are now. People tend to recall older films they liked and to forget the plethora of crap released during the same time. CG is an amazing technique if used purposefully and tastefully. If you don't like the music it's more likely you don't like the pianist than the piano.
matenzo 3 years ago
you make a good point. i just don't like how lazy film makers are with it. they half ass because they get the general idea of their imagination more easier. if you work on it long and hard, you would'nt be able to tell if it was CG effects. for instance - Rob Zombie's "The Devil's Rejects" was completely shot in CG with the scenary and it was done so well
KISSfan888 3 years ago
I don't think laziness has as much to do with it as cost and time management. People often get the impression that CG is easy and fast cause it's rendered in the computer but it's not like a pc downloads the special effects straight from the director's imagination. Much like painting or sculpting, creating a CG work takes forever if you want to make it look truly awesome but CG artists have a very strict time schedule to stick to. Every director and CG artist would like their CG to look amazing.
matenzo 3 years ago
I think the CGI hatred is more than justified. It's taken cinema a step back as far as I'm concerned. Makes me feel like I'm watching a fucking video game. I would also say that even amidst all the crap that was released during the 80s (I personally think the output back then was way better than today), at least the effects looked good. You know why? Because they were TANGIBLE.
jeremizle 3 years ago
It's taken cinema a step back? In what way? There are great films (aliens, the never ending story, beatlejuice, the nightmare before christmass, ghost busters, etc) that featured no or hardly any cg but what makes them so convincing is the cinematography and concepts/character design. The horror/sci-fi/fantasy genres have always been ripe with garbage. The monster in this film was "tangible" but did u honestly think it looked "real"? It was intentionally 80s style but still c'mon lol
matenzo 3 years ago
Honestly CG can be good and there are films where it has worked very well, mainly high budget films (Spider Man2, NOT part 1 though)
It is being used more and more often nowadays. Sometimes I ask why. Why was there fake ass looking cg blood in the devil's rejects? The movie was genuinely creepy and had me going but the cg blood was stupid.
Movies like John's Carpenter's The Thing have awesome effects without CG. I have yet to see a HORROR film with CG effects that believable.
