  • I guess the only positive thing about this gizmo is if your wanting to take the nes on the go, this thing would come in handy. Plus it frees up the pain of cleaning the carts and reinserting the cart each time you want to play a new game, but there is no fun in that! Awesome video, and didn't mean to sound negative, just giving you my 2 cents regarding Emulation which soul purpose is to preserve the classics in gaming, and not for profitable reasons, and hope you understand.

  • Its an interesting idea and cool item, although I dont know why some one would want to pay that much for something that is all Emulation based and totally violates Emulation and why its sole purpose is shareware and that company is selling it for profit when they downloaded the nes roms on there free and paid nothing whatsoever, when we can play nes roms on the DC or on the computer. Plus there is no fun in collecting the original nes carts. Its a cool idea, but shouldn't cost that much, rip off

  • Are there handhelds this is compatible with?

  • @retropirate1 you must be a cool 13 year old to know about the Original Nintendo. Props to you.

  • Mah gawd, who doesnt know about NES? it was one of the most popular consoles of the 80ths! Jesus! I am 13 and I didnt live in the 80ths, but i love those good old 8-bit and 16-bit games and well that new stuff they make today its okay i guess but grafics dosent make the game better! And you know i really want to live in the 80ths! .....ehhh sorry geek rage! :3

  • @retropirate1 You're not alone. I'm 16 and even I have to admit that those classics are by far the greatest. They can make better graphics, but not better games.

  • @retropirate1 I'm 11 and I play my Sega Genesis every day. 16 BIT FOR LIFE!

  • @kindofscary Heck yeah, you have earend a sub! :3

  • @kindofscary You, my friend you have earned a sub! :3

  • @retropirate1 And so have you my friend

  • DOES THE SPEEDBOARD WORK???

  • I just played Super Mario Bros on an original NES last night

  • what does the power pack do

  • @TheMortalkombatdude It's the same as an R4 card for the DS

  • nes is 8

  • Nes systems are so finicky though i think it cost to much. but it's cool cart though.

  • @skr101274 - not really, just have to replace the cartridge connector. cheap and easy. Or get a top loader.

  • @skr101274

Disabling the 10NES chip really helps with the endless flashing screens. Did it to mine, and the thing works like a champ. Really easy to do too.

  • @AxiomofDiscord, Ha ha just in good harmony, keep em coming!

  • Earley 90s???!!!!?? Try the 80s weirdo

  • does the lightgun work on hdtvs

  • @theoriginalelzincho it will, but it will not work well

  • @theoriginalelzincho CRT ones yes --- Projection, Plasma or LCD monitors will work at all with the standard lightgun

  • @smeckaldorf It makes perfect sense to use a rom over the orignal if your a collector, And what if you have a sealed copy of a game, like you would open it just to play it when you have access to one of these, remember NIB is worth more to a collector then one that has been open or has no box.

  • @smeckaldorf actually if you own the cart of the said game you can have a back up of it. its only illegal if you have the rom and not the cart. and this device is not illegal, think of homebrew, how else are you suppose to play them if not using a emulator.

  • @SumDuDe34 A emulator is nice and all but it doesnt match playing on real hardware. You dont have to be a collector to own a NES or other retro system. A current and retro gamer plays any and all games old and new. These games are better on real hardware over emulation. Emulation is for people that do not own or have a broken system.

  • You grew up with Nes which was one of the most popular consoles of the early 90's?...Bahh youngsters.

  • @gamecollect101 well 1990 is still the 90s lol but yeah it had more of its life in the 80s for sure.

  • @AxiomofDiscord - yeah, early 90s belonged to the 16 bit consoles

  • your beginning statements... you confused NES with SNES

  • i want to get one to play hacks on the nes!

  • @TheKombatGamer89 F! the WII came out in 2006

  • This thing sucks ass, i mean when you get an NES, you probably want to collect for it, if you want to play games you just get an emulator

  • @SumDuDe34 its for homebrew.

  • @SumDuDe34 I collect NES game and I think this is a great item. With it I can play hacks and patched roms on my actual NES, I can also play games that are now too expensive or rare. :)

  • Does the NES Powerpak work on the NES Retro Mini?

  • oops noticed some typos there in my last comment lol, its 1985 not 86 and its OFF eBay not OF eBay XD, O and something occurred to me The legality of Nes roms have been renewed since the release of the Wii making products like this illegal since you have to download the roms, and the only way to make it legal is to own the game...so if you own the game JUST PUT THE GAME IN YOUR SYSTEM !!!!!!

  • wow this is some real expensive shit...you would think for 135$ they would give you a compact flash card to, o i dunno USE IT!!!!!....also personal experience is no excuse for fact....Nintendo and the NES is the most recognizable game system ever made next to Atari and its 2600. also its main run was from 1986 to 1995 making it a product of the 80s NOT 90s.... this product is a waist of money, you can get a nes with games of eBay for at most 60$...... and yes im ranting cus im bored lol

  • probably never seen an nes in their life? bro they arent rare everybody has seen one

  • I have whats known as a Retron3 (NES\SNES\GEN) I bought it mainly because my real systems broke. *I play WAY too much* I want the three versions of these flash carts, I am hesitant to get them (Price wise) and the fact that they might not work on the retron, has anyone used one with these carts?

  • NES Powerpak is about $135....WTF?!

  • um 90's? um no late 80's, best selling until the wii? nope. pin connectors wearing out is liable on all cartage based systems. The powerpak is geared tors the programmers& ppl who like to play hacks and homebrew not the collector. collectors usually frown down appon things like the powerpak because it still is not the same thing as a hard copy of the game

  • @Bob0p True, but it would allow people to get ahold of very rare games that are too expensive to afford or too rare otherwise.

  • @NeptuneNavigator01 if your talking like world champions and things like that a collector usually would go for a reproduction cart. You are also forgetting about the games that where discontinued that can only also be emulated or reproduced. But 7/10 collectors are going to go get a reproduction cart over the emulated versions.

  • @Bob0p I am aware of the discontinued games. I was thinking more along the lines of Bubble Bobble Part 2, and other rare games like that, that not everybody can afford with a limited budget. That's one game, for example, that's highly sought after, but is rare and therefore expensive.

  • @NeptuneNavigator01 Yes like I said a collector would go with a repoduction cart over a emulator because atleast they can sell the reproduction cart for a little more than a usual game and still be able to play it. Playing the orignals like world champions and Bubble Bobble runs the risk of damaging the cart and the carts go for really high prices.

  • blow on the compact flash now!

  • This is waaaaaay over priced..

Get a USB adapter for your NES Controller on ebay for $10 and play them on your computer instead

  • There's only 2 issues I have.. 1) Does this play off the actual hardware, or is there an emulator built in the powerpak? If so, it's almost pointless. and 2) Still debating if I'd want something like this, or still just get the actual games themselves.

  • Nintendo Compact Flash System (NCFS)

  • hello, which sells the power pak, there handcuffs in Brazil to represent to sell, thanks!

  • With the batteries on NES games not working anymore, I have not had that problem yet with the NES games I bought in the 80s like Zelda, Dragon Warrior III or Final Fantasy they still save and kept some of the saves from back then.

  • @ZyllAvatar mine too. amazing isn't it.

  • @ZyllAvatar I think they use a CR2032 battery which is ultra-common

  • i was wondering do you need to download all the games or does all the games with with the powerpak?

  • @henken157 Have to download them I believe

  • Thanks for showing it for a bit. I really want this thing now hehe :) i'll prolly get it next month

  • Wow, dude. You don't really know your stuff when it comes to dates. BUT! Very informational on the ROM side of things.

  • I agree that PC emulation is different. My friend told me why I would buy one of these.

  • This guy is fucking rich.

Seriously how do you make so much miney?

  • Silly unknowing man, NES came out in 1983 and did not stop being developed and shipped until 1995 in America and 2003 in Japan. It to this day is the #1 selling console ever developed.

  • So yeah. Pretty much. Basically.

    So yeah. Pretty much. Basically.

    So yeah. Pretty much. Basically.

  • So this is really interesting clever...

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • sucks that is doesn't use sd card.

  • are you dead? ;\

  • "so ya..." x10000

  • I just ordered it online because I am a huge nes collector and I have 589 Nes games

  • At everyone bitching about cost, it only shows how you know shit about nothing. The powerpak is a lot more complex than those SD card readers for the DS, for example. Currently it's compatible with 97.65% of the US releases. For the exact list of games that are incompatible, check the NintendoAge forum, in the "Gamer's Gauntlet", it's one of the threads at the top.

  • cool thing

  • it was one of the best selling consoles till the original PLAYSTATION destroyed all of its sales records. NOT the wii. and boy, is that power pak case design ugly! i made my own case design for it and looks far superior! see my channel for the video ;)

  • whut 135$ no way

  • @zoralink654321 If you're just playing games, this is probably overkill. I think it's more aimed for homebrew NES developers.

  • You neglected to mention that the Powerpak plays Famicom Disk System games. That was the main reason that I bought one. Also if you Google around there are people who have improved the mapper compatibility.

  • @Lazo089 Yea, thats the only reason why I use mine.

  • film ur highest tre not in slow mo

  • "It was one of the best selling consoles until wii came along" wtfamireading.jpg.exe

  • actually, 1985

  • i got my nes powerpak now , i tested adventure island 1,2,3,4 journey to cilius, rescue rangers1 etc,,, and they work great, that,s absolutely fantastic.

youtubers this is how to put roms on the cf card to make it work

    1 unzip the roms.

2 they must be in nes fortmat.

3 prg & chr ram of roms can be not bigger then 512 kb

4 only supported mappers with those roms will work.

5 be sure those roms are NOT broken.

6 never put those roms inside the powerpak mappers, put them next too it.

    good luck

  • i have an nes

  • Hey! I grew up with an NES too. :) It's amazing that people DON'T know what one is.

  • Comment removed

  • hmm. i wonder if it's worth it since it can't take every game flawless. maybe it's updated enough to be flawless today?

  • You know damn well no one is using these legally haha

  • @GThrasher128 I am; I own almost every NES game

  • until the wii came out? 0:23

  • @rubix63 the wii is the top selling console as of right now.

  • this stuff is confusing

  • lol my zelda save is still workin on the origional cart

  • What's the point of collecting cartridges then?

  • I'd pay $20 bucks for this.

    Certainly NOT $135.

    What a ripoff

  • i would totaly buy this if i could find a NES thats the problem one that works i have a atari 2600 and a sega saturn also a n64 and a few more older game stations but i love this one it would totaly be worth the money if i had a nes 150$ i cant even buy a good cell phone for this much this is history to bad i cant find a NES anymore......

  • do you have to blow in it and slam it in the NES?

  • i,ve via someone ordered my nes powerpak,oh yeah can,nt wait till it arrives to my dourstep.

  • If your going to download and put games to use on the NES Powerpak, then you should just use an emulator. I saves money, time, hassel, and it's much more useful. You can record, use GameGenie Codes to your will, and use Savestates. So much better, cheaper, and faster.

  • 135 bucks for what is essentially a flash cart and some games don't even function.

The whole argument concering "it just feels different" is also complete bullshit.

Ugh, what a rip-off, I was midly interested until seeing this video.

  • Comment removed

  • why in the fuck would u pay 135 bucks to play nes roms on a nes when u can play them on ur computer for free wtf and the nes was popular in the Late 80's u fuckin idiot and as far as it being the best selling console since the wii came along wtf have u ever heard of the SNES or nintendo 64 u dont know shit about nintendo u fuckin prick

  • @Arsonloke nerd rage lol

  • @spleenandpie rofl

  • @Arsonloke Never actually had an NES and the Gamepak? Then you don't know SHIT about video games.

  • @gshnoozer2 i want an nes to play oldschool games so i can know the roots of gaming ^^

  • I have a Famicom (with psone apperance) I play nes carts using a converter for play them in my famicom, this powerpak works using the converter?

  • "Early 90's"??? "Best selling until Wii came along"??? Does this dude know ANYTHING about Nintendo as a franchise?

  • @SonicAdvDX According to Wikipedia, they were still making the NES in Japan until 2003, so this could very well be a true statement.

  • I don't understand why everyone hates the Duck Hunt dog?!?!? It's not like he is trying to kill you or something, Hes cool! Leave him alone

  • man i remember the days when NES was amazing graphics...

man, what i would give to play Super Mario Bros for the first time again.

  • I got one too and the memory card reader was broken. I've tried contacting RetroUSB for 2 months and they never replied to a single e-mail since they got my money. Terrible ripoff.

  • this is sooooo old

  • You didn't mention that the it also plays Famicom Disk System games. That feature is what made me end up getting one.

  • I went to a Retro store today, (FF3/FF6 for SNES was $50 alone) so if you tend to play many games, the Powerpak will actually save you money. 3-5 Really Popular SNES games would = 1 SNES powerpak. Regular NES good games were about $20 and some games like Contra or Link-Zelda will sell from $30-40 so maybe 6-7 NES games would = 1 NES Powerpak

So even tho $135 seems pricey, it's actually very cheap considering you can have EVERY NES game every made, as with the SNES pak.

  • why the fuck do you have it say what it is for the entire video.

  • just hack ur psp it's what i did ;)

  • i love the NES

  • I think 135 is worth it because playing them on the PC sucks and the quality sucks on a PC.

  • @videogamelover57 - What emulator are you using that the emulation isn't flawless?

  • also you can readjust your pins and clean them.

  • some emulators you can use accessories if you convert them to usb.

  • Early 90's??? You mean "Late 80's"?

  • @commodore256 Was Probably most popular in the early 90's, what with the world championships, and Nintendo Power, and most of the super seller games like Mario 3 really hitting the mainstream market, not just kids and gamers.

  • @commodore256 both is true

  • @starwarsfanclub1977 yeah, but the NES was released in 1985 and the SNES came out in 1991, so it was a baby's toy by 1992.

  • @commodore256 More like mid 80's to early 90's. NES came out in 1985. The Famicom came out earlier.

  • @greedostick The Super Nintendo came out in 1991 and the Genesis came out in 1989, so by the early 90's, the NES was a baby's toy. (BTTFII Reference)

  • @commodore256 The last game on the NES came out in 1995, so he is partially correct.

  • @thatguyontheright1 if you wanna play by that logic, "Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril" is said to be the first new NES Game in 15 years. (it's on the retro usb site)

so add early 201x. (megaman reference)

The way I see it is, the NES was in the same place in 1995 as the PS2 is right now in 2011, The most main-stream system despite it's age.

Even though we had PS1s at that time, people still had their nintendo. same goes for the PS2, there's 150 Million PS2s and Wii has only 86 million.

  • @commodore256 "Late 80's"??? You mean "ALL OF THE 80'S"

  • @timmmeehan

'ALL OF THE 80'S'??? You mean 'From '85 to early 90's'

  • @timmmeehan No... 1985 and on..

  • @commodore256 I was just about to post that HAHA

  • LOL! You could get the USB reader device for $3 off of eBay!! That's what I did.

  • how do you add the games on it. please tell me

  • ever heard of ps2 150 millions units sold. Wii 70.93 millions

  • @maxmax33 Ever heard of PS2 is 10 years old and the Wii isn't even 4 yet? The Wii is going to outdo the PS2 easily.

  • @Masterguy1243 I never said that it will never sell more than the Ps2 you know that the ps2 is 10 years so you must also know that 100k console sold every month not in the rate in wii numbers i know but 150 millions is a big number.

  • i got a boxed nes

  • at the unboxing you have had another card

  • nice review I may buy one when I have the funds

  • I see this on Retrozone all the time and never knew exactly what it was until now. Pretty cool, but I prefer the actual physical games ANY day.

I noticed this said the words GAME GENIE on it. Does it also have a built in Game Genie or something? Also, how do you PUT the games onto the card? These are all things I don't remember you mentioning.

  • @MrHossCartwright yeah it supports up to 5 Game Genie codes at a time

  • early 90's ?

  • You're are a super cool asian dude. keep up the work.

  • early 90's lol that was the snes u mean late 80's

  • i know what the nes is its fucking awesome i collect old video games and i am only 14 lol

  • awesome vid, you know your shit. fav'd.

  • should of used SD card or someing cheap

  • @greenyoshi64 CF's much much faster for this purpose, you wouldn't want to wait while the roms load off of SD, it would've taken a minute plus.

  • @greenyoshi64 they did not use a sd card due to the faster write time of CF Cards.

  • fuck i want a nes now i should have never sold it

  • so this is what you ditched us after prom to do! THUMBS DOWN

  • NES is nothing compared to Nintendo 64... 64 is the shittt

  • Is the barrage of idiots saying 'first' done? YES!!! Oh, and thanks for telling me about the powerpak. Nice vid.

  • So it's like an R4 lol. Nice :p

  • Awesome vid
