Edward245100. It is not Europe or the Czech Republic that is backwards. It is the United States of America that is backwards. You hillbillies even have a "creationism museum", a total affront to science and the brain and reasonable, rational thinking, not to mention the fossil record!
Apparently Edward245100 didn't notice that all these Czech songs have lyrics, and often these songs have nationalistic, patriotic, or just "pride in my homeland" or "pride in my part of the country" leanings, so to tell people not to clap or sing along is really stupid, especially when there are words that have been written to go along with the music.
If professional musicians want to sing the lyric, I am fine with that, but I do not want amateurs in the audience singing along. The audience needs to open its ears and close its mouth. What is there about this that you do not understand?
I think many Americans would disagree with your views, but having said that, you shouldn't be trying to dictate the American way onto other cultures who have a different view. The Germans also clap and sing along at concerts. Especially if it is music that is of the folkmusic genre, which many polkas, marches, and waltzes are.
I assure you that cultured and refined folks do not clap and sing along with the music. It is the hallmark of a degraded culture to do that. It is also an insult to the performers and listners like myself who do not care for it. Maybe it is OK in a beer hall where everyone is drunk as a skunk, but not any place else.
We "ugly Americans" have saved your sorry European asses many times over this past century. Your diplomacy, such as it is, still stinks! But I must admit, your music is not bad.
Edward245100. Oh horror of horrors, not only do Czechs(and Germans and many other Europeans) clap along to the beat of the music, but they sing along at the same time they are clapping to the beat.
Even a worse horrors of horrors, even at a Strauss concert in Germany or Austria, the people have the GALL and audacity to clap along, sing along, and even get up and dance to a Strauss waltz.
Clapping along with the music ruins it for those of us do not like it. Singing along is even worse. Why is it that dumbbells think they can only enjoy music if they can make a noise either by clapping or singing? Polkas, marches and other similar musics, although not for the concert hall, deserve our respect and admiration - and our silence!
The German musicianship as always is magnificent, but I could do without some of the constant audience clapping along with the music. It gets to be irritating after awhile.
For starters, this is Czech music and secound of all people clapping along is apart of our culture, we are a nationalistic nation with enthusiasm for our art!! Pardon me if your culture is apathetic.
sexyslovak, I got it that the musicians are Czech and not German. But you should ask those very excellent Czech musicians if they would prefer that the audience not clap along with the music or if they would prefer that they reserve their clapping until the end of the performance. In my neck of the woods, only jerks and morons clap to the music. We reserve our enthusiasm by respectfully listening to the music sans clapping which the musicians are working so hard to play.
I understand audience participation as well as you, but I just don't like it. I like to listen to the music, not the noise of hands clapping. Much of central European music is ruined by this kind of provincialism.
Ruined?? Sorry, Polka is not ment to be enjoyed sitting and stared at with a blank face. That is why it is called a "lively" dance. Dont like how we enjoy our music. Dont listen. :)
Wow - you are going to tell me about the polka? Yes, I know it is a lively dance and that is precisely why I like it. But I do not need hands clapping. Unlike you, I like to listen to the music. By the way, the polka no more belongs to you than it does to me. It is world music by now in case you haven't noticed.
It is more mine then it will ever be yours. it my heritage. not yours. you couldnt even read the german to figure out it was a end of communism party, or to establish this was czechs singing. How pathetic. you ignorant americans know nothing. From the background you could tell it was Praha, and your telling me about a Polka? You cant tell black from white. Stick to country music
We Americans only know English, pretty much the universal world language by now in case you hadn't noticed. Please don't bother me about your Czech heritage. I know music and you haven't a clue other than to clap along like a retard to the polka beat. Like most of your ilk, you are provincial to the core. Hey, clap along to the music and ruin it for those of us who appreciate good music. That is always the mission of country bumpkins like you. That is why concert halls were invented I guess.
At least Europeans don't clap in church! Americans do though. Europeans clap to polkas and marches, and Americans clap in church. Oh well. Each to his own. Live and let live.
I don't like any clapping in church any better than I do in a music hall setting. This just goes to prove that you can find morons in both American churchs as well as in European music halls. So what else is new?
It is clear you take your freedom for granted. This celebration marked the end of communism. Would you not too rejoice, smile, dance and clap? They are singing and clapping for freedom. An artist lives to entertain. These wonderful men and women have done just that! This is not an Opera house. The element is all together. This is not Classical music. This is Polka. It is ment to be shared with smiles and clapping. If you dont get that, you dont get polka., go listen to some country music.
Country music is not to my taste, but still that is not to say that there is not some great country music. I like polka just like you do, but I do not like audience participation. That is because I respect the music itself, not for what it does. I can smile at the music without interfering with it with hand clapping. I truly think only idiots clap along with the music and it has nothing to do with freedom or the end of communism. It is a retarded provincialism of central Europeans.
You tell sexyslovak that you don't care to be told about her Czech heritage, yet you proudly inform us of the way things are "in your neck of the woods". Backwoods, no doubt.
Are not the eastern nations of Europe considered backward? I well know how to investigate anything Czech without talking to a couple of YouTube nerds who think it is cool to clap and sing along with the music.
The only trailer parks you see are in your own mind. The European landscape was ruined by two world wars and was only saved by American intervention. It is my understanding that the Czech landscape was an environmental disaster due to Soviet style communism. Anyone can preserve a few castles for the tourist trade if that is all you are into.
Edward245100, you've OBVIOUSLY never been to Germany OR the Czech Republic. The landscape and countryside in both countries is beautiful. Very green, very well tended, very well kept and very clean, as are the towns and cities.
I do not have to go to the Czech Republic to know what it must have been like under a Soviet style of governance. Ever hear of Chernobyl? But what does any of this have to do with nerds who want to clap along and sing along with the music - thereby ruining it for those of us who merely want to listen. I think that is what the musicians would like us to do too - just listen!
Have any of you ever attempted a musical instrument? If so, you know how difficult they ALL are. Just to get a decent tone is an accomplishment. Yes, the musicians want you to enjoy the music they have worked so hard to create, but they do not need your hand clapping. I most especially do not need it. I want to listen to the music, not any infernal hand clapping. Only ignorant peasants would ruin music this way.
