  • I'm leaving for Japan in August! I'M SO EXCITED/SCARED!

  • @ShineeGurlELF :OOO YOUR SO LUCKY!!!

  • @ShineeGurlELF oh which program!? I just applied too!!

  • Comment removed

  • @hitsugiluva AFS! What about you?

  • @ShineeGurlELF Last time I looked at AFS they were full :( and I turn 19 in January so NOWHERE will accept me really which sucks. I'm going to OGSHS in April :)

  • To be honest I really like this video.

I'm feeling like many of the posts are just posted because they fell into the trap of watching this blog and not really knowing anything or even trying to understand what this person's going through and/or has gone through.

Also, it should matter what this person's age, gender or sex is, they are giving good advice to those of us who are thinking of going abroad.

So, thank you my dear. I apologize for the ridiculous comments.

  • did you have to have like..uber good grades to go to japan?

  • You're so pretty, short hair really suits you!

Im studying abroad as an exchange student in Hong Kong.

Check out my channel when you can :)

I just started making vids a few months ago

  • What did the first family do?

  • I'm curious what made the first family mean?oooh ooh make video about tht

  • @bubzzc0la01

Obviously she's a SHE, you jerk, and I know you know that. Second, how does she look like she's trying to be Asian? Did her BLUE eyes and BROWN hair give her away?

  • im cureyous what was wrong with your first family

  • I swear, if your hair was longer, I would say you are Emily san!

  • I'm glad I came across this video, I plan to be going to Japan for the summer my Junior year of highschool, I found this video pretty darn useful, Its nice to bring up the negitive things one should expect not just the positives :)

  • You're brave. I can't even sum up the courage to even start learning Japanese, hah.

  • You are my type , 100% :D

  • Im going with WYS O.O

  • LOL! i really love the ''cc" botton. try it and click " transcribe adio" =))

  • Is Japan alrigh now? i still wanna go there and stuff but with the disaster stuff that happend there I din't know.

  • How do you get to exchange ?

  • I am planning on being an exchange student for Japan. I was just wondering, is their language easy to learn? Or should I teach myself a bit before going? By the way, thanks for the upload!

  • you're sooo cute ^^ hope you're doing good right now? are u alright ?

  • Hi! I just recently learned about CIEE and i was wondering if you could tell me more about it. Please? (:

  • you're a natural beautyyyyy hnnggg >;I

  • i thought she was guy lol

  • HARU-chan!!! no im kidding but you do look like her xD

  • do you watch anime or read manga????

  • @AzumiRM I don't understand your comment. How do I "not understand culture"? I went to Japan to leave my comfort zone and improve my linguistic and cultural awareness. I went there for high school not Uni, so I dressed in a uniform. And why would anyone ever want to look "regular"?

  • @AzumiRM it's not just culture, the main reason why most conflicts occur is a lack of understanding and communication

  • @AzumiRM bitch

  • @AzumiRM "You just don't understand culture" Isn't that good enough for a reason to wanting to learn about other culture?

  • OMG! a real life haruhi. haha. you're so cute

  • lol ^^

how many languages do you learn? you speak japanese and german, or what?

that's really cool :D! I'm from german and I like the japanese kulture ;)!

you must have so much luck ^^' I wish i can get there, too -.-'

  • the americans, austrailans and new zealand people are so lucky when it comes to student exchanges,in the uk the best student exchange thing we have youth rotaray (youth ribi) but it wont let us outside europe unless someone wants to come to our contrie from the place we want to go with an eu passport which is quite a long shot :/

  • It's a shame that you had to switch families a few times but hey you had a good time in Japan tho so it's all good! :D Do you know how much it would cost for a UK student to go to Japan perhaps? Or any exchange programs for UK students I've looked for a little while now and i can only seem to find programs for American students, i mean for all i know if i contacted the American Programs maybe they would let me use them still but yeah if you do know ANY like at all that'd be really helpful!

  • hey i love your video, just got a questioned, do most of the familys you stay with speek Enlgish? i am thinking of doing a japanese exchange programe once i finish school.

Love your video once again.. hope you have/had fun over there.

  • wow you are so cute, you look like an anime girl.. nice big eyes and perfect skin!

    Well good luck in japan

  • im going to japan next year

  • did you take the semester abroad? or the whole year?

  • Can you elaborate on the issues you had with your host family?

  • that is called cultural shock

  • if you don't mind, how was your first family? like how was their lifestyle different from yours?

  • I was an exchange student in Hong Kong (I'm from USA too :D) and the host family actually kind of acted like I was going to die O_o. They always checked on me like every five minutes to see if I was living or something. It kind of gets annoying and you cannot believe how much people enjoy gossiping there XD. They like talking rudely in front of people but I guess its their habit. My family is Cantonese so its nothing new.

  • omg i thought you were a cute boy =3

  • Confusion, conflict will always happen if you immigrate.

It is not like you want some conflict. but there are some A-holes who just want to pick the fight from you, and some how get some money out of you because they think you know nothing about it.

In Canada, my friend had A-Hole home stay, and they just locked him away from the house because they thought my friend didn't knew anything, but they were wrong :). He had solid proof, they needed to pay all the money back.

  • You looks like an androgin japanese boy

  • you say you're from texas, but (i probably don't know much about texas, but) you don't have a southern accent.

by the way thanks for posting these blogs. they're interesting

  • @kaykay600 Not everyone from Texas talks like a freaking cowboy, you know? lol

  • You sound like a bitch, "My first family sucked, I hope my next family is better hurr hurr"

  • you're just so cute

  • do you speak fluent or good japanese? if yes how long did it take you to learn(i take lessons 5 hours a day for `the past year and i think i know most of the language.)

  • oh...nvm good vid :D

  • I like your hair

  • oh you look so cute in your winter uniform!!

  • Not to jump on you without knowing the whole story, isn't the point of living with a host family to experience a different lifestyle?

  • @orenjiotoku That is a completely valid question! And yes, that is the usual point: to experience a different lifestyle. But if your family starts throwing fits and won't allow you to communicate with your own family back home - things start getting complicated.

  • @katrandom , that would be uncomfortable , for sure. Does sound very

strange. ......They didn't lock you in your room at night did they? :-)

  • @katrandom That sounds pretty harsh. If a family can't be patient, understanding and more open minded towards foreigners (let alone their guests), that's just plain sad.

  • May I ask what exactly was wrong with your first family?

  • im sorry for this stupid question but... you see the japanese program can it happen in the uk too and by that i mean are there school transferals like that

  • aw u look really pretty....and im srry its not what u thought...must be hard for u.

i what to do it. im 16 and im trying to learn Japanese.

i only know a few words..not alot but getting there.

but i also think it would be scary. dont u stay down there for like a year or so?

i mean i would miss everyone. but i think it would be wourth it....but it would be very hard. hee hee but fun tooo ^-^

  • I totally can relate to this :) my first host family was also... But maybe I am just a bad child :P (went through rotary) -3 japan :)

  • Comment removed

  • umm i have a question! PLZ ANSWER ME BACK ITS VERY IMPORTANT!!! my question is, how do u become an exchange student? and when u become an exchange student do u get to do what ever u want?? PLEASE ANSWER BACK!!! VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!! THANKS! XD

  • isnt it the exchange students job to adapt to their lifestyle? I mean....thats like...the number one rule unless it was THAT bad, what happened?

  • You're pretty photogenic, i like your hair in this one ;)

  • i was wonderin to become an exchange student do u have to fully know japanese teh langauge? or do they teach u first or ??

  • i'm nowcurious as to what weird lifestyle the other family had lol

  • i'm so in love with you lol

  • was japanese hard to learn? oh and um if you don't mind my asking (this is probably a stupid question) but i was wondering, do you have to study the language for quite a bit before you are allowed to do the exchange or can you just decide where you wish to go and thats that?

  • @quasmort Sry it may be weird answering this becaues its not my blog lol I'm going through Rotary to Japan so its different with hers. With CIEE you are required to know some of the language, with rotary you dont need to. This is because the best way to learn a language is to fully immerse youself into that culture.

  • how long do you get to stay in japan for i wanna live there :D

  • Mhh, but, would you say it's worth it? Haha, I'd love to stay there even if just for a month. Hey, how long did it take you to learn Japanese?

  • aah you're super cute and i love the way you speak :D im going to watch your other videos now

  • You're a girl? You could totally go a an all boys school.

  • @CarefreeGirlie I'm 100% sure you could if you cut all your hair, but this is not Hana Kimi. This is real life. lol

  • what happened???

  • so where exactly in japan are you?

  • @xxenme she was in tokyo

  • nice, where exactly in austria? :D

  • @Xaltarius Tirol

  • where you from? USA? U have some kind of accent i never heard

  • @YoungALMS Yea, I'm American. Accent? I'm from Texas if that's what you mean.... but I also speak German. I don't know what you could mean!

  • @katrandom I didnt mean any disrespect but to me it sounds like little bit of British, German, and yeah, Texas accent. Are you having good time at Japan? I hope so. It's my mothercountry.. well I am a kind of.. Japanese-Korean? I'm at States right now, studying english, like you studying japanese at Japan. Anywayz, hope you have great times at Japan! You should visit Korea sometimes, too!

  • @katrandom How come you speak German?

  • @katrandom I know it was so cute when you said yall...

BTW you look so cute in your winter uniform

  • @katrandom You look like a lesbian.

  • @katrandom Dude ---im from Texas 2--i know your probably like "so?" but almost all vloggers i watch are from very far away XD so its awesome :D Yaaaaaaaaaaaay !!! =^.^=

  • @katrandom Du kannst Deutsch? Cool ;)

  • @katrandom thumbs up to using "ya'll". knew you were from texas.

  • @YoungALMS Her accent sounds like a normal American accent to me. I'm American, from Northern Virginia(DC metro) and she sounds like me.

What sounds weird about it to you?

  • You look like Haruhi from Ouran High xD

  • @xXZeroClaymoreXx i know right!! LOl

  • @xXZeroClaymoreXx yes she do !? :P

  • @xXZeroClaymoreXx oh yea thats true she does look like haruhi from ouran high! XDD AWESOME!! XD

  • @xXZeroClaymoreXx lmao!!!!

  • @xXZeroClaymoreXx That was my first thought. XD

  • @xXZeroClaymoreXx like justin bieber

  • @xXZeroClaymoreXx that's what i was thinking when watching this xD i'm watching that series right now actually :P

  • @xXZeroClaymoreXx OMB you're right :O i ddnt notice until you said it :O wow

  • Oh my gosh!

    Are you still there?

I did an exchange with WYS in 2006...and they are CRAZY. Watch out.

If you are interested, I would like to talk to you about it. Message me.

  • hey i'm thinking about the exchange student program too.

    which program do you suggest?

  • maybe AFS or Rotary... anything is probably better than this mess...

  • Now I am more interested in seeing the next episode, what a cliff hanger in this vlog, I hope everything is going well.

  • Hai schatzibutzi hahha... I hope you're doing well!...

  • Aaah, ur so cool! XD I also want to be an exchange student, x__x But I live in Sweden, and uuum.. Idk if we have those stuff, I've heard about exchange students that study in Canada. but not in japan. But I sure hope so. Did it cost anything for you?

  • You CAN get to Japan! There are some Swedish exchange students here with WYS as well! I bet if you do some research you will find a way. It did cost me quite a bit, it varies by program though.

  • hope things get better, have fun

  • I've heard of many different stories where exchange students haven't stayed with their first family, not just in Japan but everywhere.

Oh and guys, she can't say anything in detail about the family issues because it's basically in the contract, the whole idea "whatever happens in Japan, stays in Japan'

  • @DirectlyHere Pardon the dumb question, but what would happen any details about the family issues ever got out?

  • did you leave because they were they really strict with you or something? or did they act like you weren't there?

  • Glad to see everything worked out in the end. Where in Tokyo are you living now?
