For me, Diablo 3 will roflstomp Torchlight 2 and just be better in every way possible. The difference between the games will be like night and day. I will purchase TL2 though and use it as a filler until D3 is released in early 2012.

If it don't come out for Xbox Live Arcade sooner than a year after the PC release you don't get my money just like I didn't buy Torchlight because it was just a ploy for you to make more money on an old game with no co-op.

The gameplay is similar, so what? There are lots of different games with similar gameplay. Usually these are grouped together into genres.

@1penydragon It pushes back release dates to publish on XBLA not because of the game being complete or not - but rather because microsoft sit on the game for a few weeks then decide whether or not the game fits within its XBLA marketting schedule. The Release delay can be months AFTER the game is ready - release it on another platform first? Get put to the bottom of the release schedule list.

This game doesn't look like it has as much quality than D3, i think that is better because lots of people will be just get torchlight because they cant play D3 due to graphic performance, anyway, im going to try it out, if it is like bloodline champions somehow (in terms of playstyle), or any of them have a camera unlock feature, they will be my choice (i guess)

Torchlight is the only real competitor of Diablo and that is because they have people on the team who made FATE and the world of warcraft and diablo series still a great game.

They quit Blizzard North because of Vivendi Universal being all on their ass for a money making game. thus Wow was created after they left. They tried to make another competitor called "Hellgate: London" (Amazing game btw) But the company went under from lack of sales, they didnt advertise enough. THey did NOT make fate, but did make mythos. Theyre striking back at blizzard with torchlight, and might actually succeed.

I felt that the story for Torchlight was poorly done since the female NPC could've easily been written out of the story and had the player step into that role. The gameplay was fun, if a little too easy, but I'd be interested to see a sequel.

Torchlight is epic crap. Unbalanced game, useless difficulities, bosses immune to stuns, knockbacks and tons of other effects, flat life drain is useless, percentage damage increase is too op, only three classes but half of their skills are the same. They have maybe 15 unique skills. I didn't find build (except melee mage) where you can use more than one skill. If you play very hard, you will hit boss for 8-10 and he hits you for 300-400 and you have 500 HP, quite non sense.
Guess you were playing different game to everyone else. And if torchlight soooooo bad why are you looking at the sequels trailer. Yes some bosses hit hard but if you use strategy you don't let them hit you. As for not hurting the boss's try upgrading gear regularly using map zones and keep those static abilities you overlooked up. Fact is maybe you suck not the game.

Torchlight was awesome in every way (besides the lack of co op obviously), but the overwhelming feeling I got was that I was playing a kiddy game. I'll buy TL2 in the meantime, hoping that Diablo III is not more of the same.

@grimripah Correction. Some of the talented people on the Diablo II dev team are part of Runic Games and are making the sequel to Torchlight. In addition, this very same team is responsible for the original Torchlight.
I was a great fan of Diablo 1 because it was frightening and hardcore, D2 wasn't so difficult nor scary, but had nice mechanicals. Torchlight is a nice mix of both, with the mood well set in the game. I didn't love the cartoonish look of the art but... well, it's their style. It was great playing solo and I'm sure it will be amazing playing co-op. I can't wait to gather my old Diablo pals and destroy some skelletons on Torchlight 2!

This game doesn't look like it has as much quality than D3, i think that is better because lots of people will be just get torchlight because they cant play D3 due to graphic performance, anyway, im going to try it out, if it is like bloodline champions somehow (in terms of playstyle), or any of them have a camera unlock feature, they will be my choice (i guess)

@Infentryward They didnt work on WoW, they made the original Diablo. They quit Blizzard North because of Vivendi Universal being all on their ass for a money making game. thus Wow was created after they left. They tried to make another competitor called "Hellgate: London" (Amazing game btw) But the company went under from lack of sales, they didnt advertise enough. THey did NOT make fate, but did make mythos. Theyre striking back at blizzard with torchlight, and might actually succeed.

The only reason torchlight is even popular is because Diablo 2 Fans need a game to hold them down for Diablo 3. sure Runic Games will make their money with Torchlight2, and will be a successful game, it will not prevail in hurting Blizzard at all.
Diablo 3 will be the standalone out of the two.

@SunnyShine43 Blizzard shut down Blizzard North, which means they were out of jobs. And hellgate: London closed because it was a glitchful, incomplete game, along with poor advertising. I played it, quit 3 weeks later due to glitches. Also, the company didn't go under... Hellgate: London was published by EA. Runics purpose has nothing with revenge on blizzard. Runic is more the "co-exist" mindset. Please read up on your info.

Well thats because there's NO ONE in blizz left who actually worked or created Diablo games ;) Entirety of it is in runic games, thus DIII looks more like wow because its developed by people who did wow.
D3, when it was developed by Blizzard North(current Runic Games) looked way better than current DIII. There are leaked screenshots of that version depicting a cold, demolished map of Heavens(since the whole DIII WOULD HAVE followed DII with diablo finding a way to enter heaven)

- torchlight II already will introduce some very unique races.
- Torchlight II is more about building up an actual lore and (hi)story for the world. Playable races, mmo, etc will come after that.

I felt that the story for Torchlight was poorly done since the female NPC could've easily been written out of the story and had the player step into that role. The gameplay was fun, if a little too easy, but I'd be interested to see a sequel.

For Torchlight II they already have hired a team of script writers and story-writers, because Torchlight II main goal is to extend lore and bring more "size"to the universe (exactly what Diablo II did for Diablo I, so in a sense, Torchlight II is "Diablo 2,5" to Torchlight I's "Diablo 1,5".)

Torchlight is epic crap. Unbalanced game, useless difficulities, bosses immune to stuns, knockbacks and tons of other effects, flat life drain is useless, percentage damage increase is too op, only three classes but half of their skills are the same. They have maybe 15 unique skills. I didn't find build (except melee mage) where you can use more than one skill. If you play very hard, you will hit boss for 8-10 and he hits you for 300-400 and you have 500 HP, quite non sense.

Guess you were playing different game to everyone else. And if torchlight soooooo bad why are you looking at the sequels trailer. Yes some bosses hit hard but if you use strategy you don't let them hit you. As for not hurting the boss's try upgrading gear regularly using map zones and keep those static abilities you overlooked up. Fact is maybe you suck not the game.

it's so happens that it's not entirely true that it's the same people who made diablo & diablo 2, it can only be the same people if they all are doing this together. I can with 100% curtaincy ( don't believe it's a real word) say that not all from the old diablo team is working on this game, as it so happens to be that some of them were working on titan quest, ironlore. So just to make things clear, they went separate ways. some do work together. So it's not the same people, only some of them.

Though I liked torchlight I played it mostly because there ain't any other good looking diablo alternative (that also plays good) but I don't like goofy catroonish desing for that kind of games..we've yet to see if torchlight 2 > diablo 3..but I can bet my money on it..torchlight 2 will come out earlier lol

@bokrin Yeah I cant agree more on the cartoonish element. Torchlight was awesome in every way (besides the lack of co op obviously), but the overwhelming feeling I got was that I was playing a kiddy game. Seems everyone is heading in some sort of WoW direction nowadays. Even the Starcraft 2 cinematics look like clips out of WoW. I'll buy TL2 in the meantime, hoping that Diablo III is not more of the same.

@Kiepster13 I don't understand the association commonly made between cartoonish graphics and a child's game. This game has gore and blood in it incidently. The art style isn't a factor. A realistic looking game doesn't instantly make it have "better"graphics or be more "hardcore". It's just a style... and personally I'd take good smooth cartoonish graphics anyday over a half baked attempt at realism.

Diablo is one of the best selling games of all time and it wasn't all down to the gameplay, it was because of the look and feel also. You don't see people driving around in pink Ferrari's do you? It's because you give people what they want generally and people are generally used to red Ferrari's, aka realistic, darker graphics for Diablo...

People tend to write games that are stylised or cartoonish as rubbish or not a real game, aka a childs game. I fail to see how you have any place to speak of "cartoony graphics" and as another commented on here borderlands was and is a great game even with cartoonish styles, so was XIII if anyone has played it. There are quite a few games that have turned to using these styles because 1. They can make a nice looking environments etc easily that both look pleasant and smooth. 2. Gfx like these dont chew as much memory etc on ones PC = more people can play

@grimripah Correction. Some of the talented people on the Diablo II dev team are part of Runic Games and are making the sequel to Torchlight. In addition, this very same team is responsible for the original Torchlight.

Diablo did not start as blizzard title. It was started by a small company and then blizzard bought the company and named it Blizzard North.
Blizzard North developed Diablo 1, Diablo II and Diablo II: LoD.
Diablo 3 originally was planned to be way different from the current DIII. However blizzard fired entirety of blizzard north during 2002-2005.
Blizzard has NO ONE of he originals working.

Definitely you can tell this was made by ppl that worked on diablo 1 & 2.
The music had a vary similar sound to "wilderness" from diablo, the drums almost have the same beat, it's off by a tad.

I was a great fan of Diablo 1 because it was frightening and hardcore, D2 wasn't so difficult nor scary, but had nice mechanicals. Torchlight is a nice mix of both, with the mood well set in the game. I didn't love the cartoonish look of the art but... well, it's their style. It was great playing solo and I'm sure it will be amazing playing co-op. I can't wait to gather my old Diablo pals and destroy some skelletons on Torchlight 2!
