  • Gave me shivers. I love this instrument, it reflects the spirit of China.

  • beutiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • she is really good, hope i can play like her one day (doubt so)... but i can't resist but say "FOREHEAD" XD

  • This is from the 2008 performance i believe, very beautiful.

The 2009 performance features of course another breathtaking Erhu piece.

Check it out: Erhu : The vow

    /watch?v=I39IG0evN7A

  • that was really good until the last 5 seconds. seems like they could have ended that so many ways, but that way wasn't quite right.

    just my opinion though

  • Love this stuff. I remember hearing a song that was erhu playing mixed into jazz/funk music. It was a completely awesome combo.

  • @BetterJS I believe Bob James made a CD that mixed traditional chinese music with jazz called "Angels of Shanghai". You might like it.

  • So that's what that instrument is called! Beautiful sound it makes.

  • 18 people post the same comment on every video

  • I'd like to try this song with piano and electric guitar with an ebow. It wouldnt sound anything like an erhu i know, but it might sound pretty cool. Or is that blasphemy?

  • Eighteen Justin Bieber fans clicked on the wrong video.

  • :O !!!

  • man, if my erhu skill is as good as her's, i wonder how many chicks i can pick up.

  • i love this

  • I could listen to this all day.

  • Whoa. Badass. Feel kind of weird describing something this elegant as such, but well, there it is.

  • anyone knows where to get the erhu scores for this song?

  • its awsome!! its in my mp3

  • The first part of the song..Prior to the Faster Portion..is quite reminiscent of a Music segment (Erhu & Piano) by Composer Tats Lau called "Wonton Soup" in the risque movie (1994) "Erotique" (movie is essentially 5 short stories) one of which is about a Young Couple in love in Hong Kong, very powerful song for a USA born white dude, me.

  • After this go and watch Charm of the Heaven Mountain, it will amaze you...

  • I just looked up a Taiwanese black metal band call Chthonic and saw that a member plays the erhu. I had no idea what it was and looked it up and found this.

    This is badass.

  • The theme starting at 1:05 is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

  • Unbelievable. Touching. I've never heard anything like this.

  • I completely agree with you

  • this is a "stare into space, until you realise what it is your listening to" piece of music, must have taken alot of time to create, much love.

  • perfeito

  • My god this gives me shivers.

  • Beautiful! Another beautiful one is Cao Yurong. Look her up. You won't be disappointed!

  • Ever since I came across this devine (pun intended) piece of erhu music 2 years ago, I tried to find out more about the composer-soloist and her other works. Finally today my effort pays off. Her name is Qi Xiao Chun (戚曉春) and there is another video of hers on youtube:

    The Vow【二胡】誓約

  • im looking for a modern er hu musician with piano solo but sexy jazz like style. i want to hear a modern version of this instrument's potential!!! can anyone recommend?

  • wow nice.

  • Great song! Does anybody know where I can find a score for this? A music sheet? Any help would be nice!

  • Great video I bought one of these last year. I am having trouble playing it Does any body know where I can get a dvd or vcd I'm in NY thanks

  • i almost say that the chinese violin is far more expressive than the europian and american violin. I love the vibrato and/or tremolo and the singing of the instrument.

  • I've always wanted to learn the erhu. Play like those subway musicians.

  • I love the Erhu, I really really do. And that's coming from someone who's favourite genre of music is heavy metal.

  • beautiful and melodious. love this!!!

  • el erhu te transporta mas alla de lo permitido por esta "REALIDAD"......

  • Simply wonderful!

    Thanks for that!

  • it's so beautiful and so peaceful :3

  • beautiful music.... :-)... loved it..

  • I wish there was someone here in Santa Barbara, California, who plays the Erhu, because I want to use this instrument on one of my songs, it would be perfect. The most expressive, poignant instrument i know.

  • You could try going to your nearest Chinatown, I saw a playing an erhu there :o

  • That was lovely :3

  • Beautiful sounds!

  • It's amazing to think that it only has two strings...

  • Such a beautiful instrument.

  • that instrument is soooo cool, sounds beautiful. i like the piano accompanying it.

  • I love violins above all instruments

  • All I knew about this instrument before this was I loved to hear it when the guy in dundas square played it. Now next time I'm in China town I'm gonna look for a cheap starter one :)

  • Erhu Music open the Soul from Asia, thank you for this wonderfull Video, Please write me the Name from the Artist !

Thanks and best wishes from the Redhair Mountain (Hilchenbach)

    Rüdiger

  • Her name is QI, Xiaochun.

Ms. Qi is absolutely talented. Every year she composes a piece of erhu (two-string Chinese violin) music for the 'Divine Performing Arts World Tour', which has toured in over 80 cities around the world in year 2009. Highly recommend to experience it live. Indeed, it touches deep inside, so does the whole performance. Theatre goers and critics deem the performance mind blowing, once a life time experience.

  • Erhu Music open the Soul from Asia, thanks for this wonderfull Video and Greetings from the Redhair Mountain(Hilchenbach) Rüdiger

  • sentimental

  • wow

  • This is phenomenal... Being an Australian born Chinese, and not having much to do with my heritage and culture for 27 years of my life... I think i'll take this up.. Grown up listening to this stuff, but didnt think much about it.. Amazing how a musicians mind works.. only takes one piece to change your take on a certain genre... Now...to find a decent Erhu at a decent price... especially in OZ.. Anyone in Oz that can help me find one??

  • 1 string instrument, Erhu

  • it's...2 string..

i dont know chinese but does it in some way sound like this?

  • Yeah I was just thinking the exact same thing, it really does sound like the instrument is singing. It has the emotional range of a human voice, it's beautiful!

  • so beautiful

  • This is beautiful, seriousley soothing, yet exhilarating all at once...Fantastic

  • bahh this song is so hard to play @__@

  • my parents refer it as a 'Woo'. Is that also the correct term or name for the instrument? Maybe when i was kid, erhu sounded like woo to me.

  • so beautifully done, it showed what an erhu can do. A simple instrument and yet beautiful haunting sounds

  • dan likes lots of poop on his face

  • I love how emotive the erhu is. This is beautiful

  • This video is where I come to to relax and recharge my inner peace and strength. Thank you to NDTV and the performers in this peice. The music is very much like a transition or journey from China to Ireland, the two places I would visit and stay a while if I could get past the politics in either place. Again thank you.

  • "fate" would be a much better title lol. much less awkward than "predestined relationship"

  • elegant

  • The sound of a Piano sounds kind of clumsy when compared to an Erhu

  • Hmm?

I think the piano complements it perfectly.

  • That's just beautiful music mate,a couple of seconds into it and i was hooked.A very heartfelt music, she's absolutely awsome.

  • とてもきれいです

  • ee, so desu. ;)

  • Learn Japanese before you use it, omg T_T

  • yes it's a nice video but she's chinese why are you losers speaking in badly written japanese :(

  • Congrats on:

    1) Using random Japanese "words" to form a sentence which doesn't actually mean anything.

    2) Commenting on this video in an inappropriate language since the erhu and composer are both CHINESE.

    Fucking fail.

  • Haha.

I love it when people mix different kinds of asians up.

    xD

    Happens a lot with me.

    Cookie for you!

    xD

  • such a powerful instrument, such a touching song

I like the title of the song, for me it's as if the first part symbolises life as a single, learning, experiencing, falling in a harsh world, but then you suddenly stumble on that special person, passion and flaming love sets in and the predestined relationship starts

  • it made me cry.

  • The erhu makes such a beautiful sound.. I wish I could learn how to play it.

  • She's awsome mate !! beauutiful absolutely beautiful.

  • Absolutely wonderful, a truly heavenly sound. I want to learn to play for certain.

  • I really want to learn how to play the er'hu!!!

  • lovely

  • wow.....

  • i have an erhu...and i make it love whit him every day..but hurt:(

its joke..but whith thousand years of practice..the chinesse instruments are very elaborated

  • Does anyone know what the blue characters behind her are?

  • chthulma... Characters? There's only one character. :-P

It's 緣, which means "reason," "cause," and has to do with a Chinese concept of things that are predetermined (destint/fate-related) and can't be avoided.

  • 緣 = Yuan2

    Predetermined Reason, Predetermined Fate

  • this is beautiful.... makes me sad :'(

  • I LOVE IT! i have an erhu and its so HARD to play!!!! so damn, this is crazy!!!!!! she is so talented !!!

  • Who are the performers? You should credit them in the info.

  • the performers titles and names are introduced in the start of the musical composition

  • Qi Xiaochun is the erhu player. She's part of NTDTV....sort of....well, part of the show that NTDTV puts on every year.
