I began working out in Aikido, Shotokan Karate and Judo in the 1970s. In the 1980s I was in Bujinkan Ninjutsu. I recently did an all day Systema training with a senior student of Vladimir Vasiliev. Systema is the real deal. I love it. You arm chair critics--get out of your LazyBoy recliners and actually do something besides flap your pie hole.
man on one of the first knife takeaways. the knife gets dragged down the side of the dudes body. having been on the receiving end of a knife before i can say it doesnt take much to mess you up.
i havent seen someone summon the devil but that dont mean it cant happen, well thats a little too far but seriously untill you take the training seriously and study you really have no idea what works, i thought this was bull shit spent one day at a seminar and god damn was i wrong
ive been to a seminar, try ed a lesson in holland, but what you see on you tube is a lie like uri geller. period, and if you go sparring in systema, everybody starts to fight mma style.
I fight using this martial art, and yes it looks fake but thats becuase Systema teaches you to keep the body relaxed at ALL times. It also looks fake becuase they teach you to use technique instead of strenght, to use use your opponents attacks against themselves and to use what you know about the body to bring it down. In systema you preform moves somewhat slow, becuase otherwise you'll go to fast and they'll mess up. if you see Vladimir Valiliev fight in real life you'd understand what i mean.
This guy seems full of shit...look at the way the attacker turns his back...its a pretty dance but Im not sure about its combat effectiveness. I could b e wrong but Ill stick with what Ive got...
Systema is smart in all, but all this video is telling us is you should sneak up from behind your opponent before stabbing them. This is of course if you are the kind of person who would go down that quick. As far as self defense is concerned you can react if you don't see it or hear it coming, a knife can be deadly if you use it the right way.
this is just a load they do this alot in russia, the guys just fall, its al load.theres some guys that knock down 4 or 5 guys with a wave of there arms. buncha bs
And yes, I agree, it's a lot harder when your opponent is stronger. But, this is true with any martial art ! Unless you're very well trained, no martial art can allow you to defeat stronger opponents.
I just want to add that the main point of systema is not to defeat but to avoid damage. For example, how to prevent damage when falling, when you're being beaten on the ground, when someone cornered you and threatens you with a knife,...
This video isn't a very good example of systema. What we learn when we fight against an armed opponent is to disarm him as fast as possible. Actually, there are two main way to attack with a knife : stab or slash. We learn how to avoid heavy damage and how to use the weak points of the body to put the agressor down. If you're well trained (and a bit better than the 2 guys in the video), it works. The last time I tried to hit my systema teacher with a (fake) knife, he almost broke my arm.
Systema is often heavily critisised because it is misunderstood but what people don't realise is that it has been used in real life or death situations many times by spetsnaz,KGB,FSB,GRU operatives and is extremely efective reguardless of how unorthodox it looks.
These techniques do work like most people say running away from a knife weilding attacker is the best option but sometimes it's an option you don't have
in systema you are teached a chance to survive a knife attack, the don´t tell you you go away unhurt, and of course running away is always the best way, some call it the "nike defense" !! just try out systema, you´ll see that it works
Complete bullshit. There is no way you can predict what an opponent is going to do in a fight especially if he his carrying a knife. The best defence against knife if you are unarmed is run.
And show him your back...unless you can run fast backwards...or have other people with you...or are indoors....you see when you actually think about it, it isn't that simple is it?
I agree. But at least running gives you some chance of getting away from a dangerous situation.
If you try out this bullshit on an attacker with a knife you'll garantee that the police will discover your corpse with defensive wounds to the hands and forearms not to mention fatal wounds to the stomach and chest. It's that simple.
It deals with the subject of grappling but it clearly demonstrates that attempting to disarm a knife wielding attacker while unarmed by other unarmed methods is futile. Run away - if you can! - or else carry a gun - if you can draw it fast enough!
Any empty hand work is a knife is a last resort and our training is for damage limitation - but to say it is futile goes against the facts of everyone who has survived knife attakc. It smacks more of " the instructor cant teach knife defence so says it is all useless". Again suggesting a gun sounds like a good idea...unless you live in a country where you cant carry a gun legally, or you carry it 24-7 or etc etc
I get your point. Everyone who is taught to use empty hands to ward off a knife must understand that it is a final of act of deseperation not a first resort. A guy was stabbed in Dublin about a month ago when he intervened in a row with a guy and his girlfriend. Impressionable people see some Chinese idiots doing impossible feats on the screen and think it can work in real life
Absolutley - the flashier the moves look the less likely they are to be effective. A lot if it is about awareness top - how people carry a knife, how they draw it etc and these days you have to assume someone is carrying - a sad state of affairs!
Systema has been around for over 1000 years since the early cossacks. No one martial art is more useful all round, it depends on the situation. If I was fighting someone with a knife I would rather use Systema or MMA than Kung fu or Tai Chi.
For all of you who think systema is garbage......let me tell you one thing. You all are probably right! Only respond in defense of systema if you don't have true confidence in it. True security will not need to prove anything. I'm guessing I'll hear from somebody weak.
Hi. Sometimes defenders loose control over attacker's knife at the end of attack. So attacker can cut your legs (e.g.) even if he already on the ground.
you are talking a lot of shit here. this style was founded for 100 of years ago in the middleage. russian special forces use and studies this art of fighting 40 years in secret.its a mix of ikido fistfightiting and sambo.when u dont believe go in a systema school and learn.
Well its not based off of fancy katas like most other "showy" martial arts, Systema is based purely on survival techniques, group fighting (5 on 1, you being the 1). It is not supposed to look "impressive", it is meant to save your ass in a fight
Read up on history. Russia special forces captured all government buildings in Afghanistan within hours. Just two dozen Spetznaz operatives captured Amin's palace that was protected by a numerically superior forces. It is the prolonged guerilla resistance that lasted over almost 10 years that forced USSR to withdraw.
Well your post proves that you know nothing of systema! Since I've been training in systema I've not seen a single choreographed sequence of movements. No forms, no if he does this you do that- combat drills! In systema attacks and responses are never pre-arranged (unless an instructor is breifly demonstrating a very basic movement/concept and asks the person attacking to give them a paticular attack).
Paul Genge is a working LEO and uses this stuff effectively in his line of work. This line of Systema comes from special forces operatives and warzone bodyguards. How can you be so obtuse as to watch a clip and state "this wont work". There is no greater barrier to learning than thinking you already know it all.
it may work, if only some parts of it do and others dont, learn of the good parts and add them to your own arsenal. i liked the 'up against the wall' grapples, its hard to work like that when you dont have hardly any room to move
I agree.Systema does not look impressive like other arts. But it is real and it works deadly perfect against anything and anybody. I tried it on myself and it hurts.

RichardFogarty85 this isn't complete bullshit.
First of all, if someone is walking close to you and looks suspecios in the first place you try to stay away.
Systema teaches you that if you do get in a fight, that you will be preparred.
(It will also built your reflects and instinks so you have a better chance at defending against this kind of stuff.
