By far the best film I have ever seen. It baffles me that people could criticize this intricate metaphysical look at war, nature and humanity. The cinematography is so superb that each frame of the film stands on its own. The voice overs offer majestic reflections on the nature of war through poetic beauty and humanity. The intensity of this film is unsurpassed.
If u translate what the Japanese soldier is saying to Witt before he unjustly shoots him,you would be shocked."You there,,,,drop your pants." "You will now be tickled." "DROP THEM!" "TICKLE"
Terrance Malick is a very inspiring filmmaker! His influence can be seen in my most recent project, a no-budget "art"/horror short film. the trailer for which can be found on my channel.
dude sooooo fucking true at first i didnt really blow me away cuz i expected more but watching it again it was like one of the better movies ive ever seen so good
@mitavittuaaaa I was a teenager the first time I saw this film too. I knew it was good, but I just did not fully grasp it. I recently just re-watched it about 6 months ago now at the ripe age of 27 and it REALLY effected me. Do yourself a favor and watch it again now that you are older.
Welsh: Yeah a little... This army's gonna kill you. If you were smart and take care of yourself, there's nothing you can do for anybody else. You're running into a burning house where nobody can be saved. *lights cigarette* What difference do you think you can make, one single man in all this madness. If you die it's gonna be for nothing...There's not some other world out there, where everything's gonna be OK. There's just this one, just this rock.
@RonaldoGOTM watch another malick film, i didn't like tree of life that much until i saw this, it helped me appreciate malick's style better.. might help you
new short film 'the last man standing' takes place in europe during the second world war, where james a british soldier has become disillusioned and tormented with war and tries to reach safety. along the way he has a few unexpected encounters and relives painful memories.
No Glory for heroes is an award winning short film that looks the psychological affects ww1 had on soldiers and how it would affect many for the rest of their lives!!
I caught this after seeing The Tree of Life which has effected me more than any other movie I can remember. I loved both - I could see echoes of the vision in both. It seems you either get Mallck's work or you don't. It makes you feel even more think - I guess most visionary work has a polarising effect - take Picasso for instance. I am so glad that in the days of 'safe' movie sequel fodder like Twilight, Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean, someone can still make a movie like this...
@Nnemicvids,I love this movie, but what else depresses me is that my best friend is mature enough to understand this movie, and thinks its boring, stupid and not sad.
@rudygr23 Jisas Yu Holem Hand Blong Mi. I have posted a slower version and an instrumental version. The original (as in this trailer) is also on here.
the opening music is Michael Stearns - Monk with Bell, from the wonderful, transcendental film "Baraka" by Ron Fricke, everyone thumb this valuable info up please
Thanks for putting this up in HD. For those of you trying to figure out if you want to watch this or not, do yourselves a favor and watch it with an open mind, it will be one of the most special picture experiences you will ever have.
