Barack Obama is over in Hawaii taking his hula lessons while we have a crisis in Europe. Once again, hes on the wrong side of history. The Georgians are rejecting Communists while Obama is trying to assert Communism in the US! Stick with the hula, Obama, and let the adults do the work necessary to keeping this the greatest country in the world!
How many books has Nancy Pelosi sold now...5000?They [democrats]don't want an improvement in our economy.Bad for liberal elections. They must have crisis to win.
Obama is in Hawaiii remembering the good old days when he and his surrogate Daddy Frank Marshall Davis used to school Obama on Marxism and the wonders of the Communist Party. Those were the good old Commie days for Obama! Obama bleeds red, just like Putin
So what you're saying is that we should believe them because they will bring down $4.00 a gallon gas prices. But why should we believe that they will bring down $4.00 a gallon gas prices?
I've voted Republican before, but I won't get fooled again, not this time NRCC.
Your argument is not unfounded. The oil produced will go on the world market and not necessarily to the US. However it will employ US workers, and the taxes paid will go to the US as well. Any oil purchased from them by the US will be money spent in the US for a US product. In other words the same amount of money (billions) will not be flowing out of the US to Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Venesuela, or Mexico.
That in turn affects the world monetary markets that give value to the dollar. It would help strenghten our currency and further reduce the cost of foriegn oil for the US. Make sense?
That's a strange argument. Most people who make the argument for drilling, while admitting that the oil won't actually get to our tanks for at least five years, try to argue that speculation will drive the price of oil down. Of all your arguments, none of them will have impact on the actual price of oil before five years (other countries can't purchase our oil before it exists), and the only one that has ANY impact on our economy right now is the point you make about employment.
It all has an impact on the price of oil. As you can see today at the pump. The argument is not strange, but its not the one the politicians are putting out. Not everyone toes the party line. Regardless of party affiliation. The impact of high prices are being felt now, the impact of lower foriegn debt will come in time. Even the prospect of it. Financiers think to the future, not to the present.
According to Time magazine: "The Bush Administration estimates that expanded offshore drilling could increase oil production by 200,000 bbl. per day by 2030. We use about 20 million bbl. per day, so that would meet about 1% of our demand two decades from now."
Remember that since fuel is an international commodity, its price is fixed at the international level, not the national level. Now, I'm no economist, but I highly doubt that given all of these factors (only 1% increase, only by 2030, prices are set on the international market), I highly doubt that this will affect the price at the pump at all.
Its what I was talking about before. The oil goes on the international market. Its the foreign debt and out flow of money from the US that stops, making the dollar stronger, that in turn makes our purchases of foreign oil cheaper. Capeash? Are you aware of how the strenght of the dollar effects the purchase of foreign goods? My original comments need to be read again.
I take it that Time magazine's reference to "offshore drilling" might be distinct from drilling in ANWR. If that's the case, I'll have to check the projections on ANWR output.
Anwar also needs to be drilled. We cannot afford to spend one billion dollars per caribu, so we can feel good about ourselves. I get US News and World Reports. It makes no difference if you let others do your thinking. Its better to research on the web for actual estimates as long as you are looking for honest numbers and not something that fits what your idiology. (easier said than done). And there is no guarantee you will find all your answers either. But at least it may help.
The estimates I've heard are much much higher. So maybe its who you believe. I've also heard that it is still to be determined how much oil is available in the gulf. I think its worth investigating. Lets find out whats there. Makes sense to me.
"With violence escalating in Georgia and tensions rising with Russia, President Bush will likely leave (for Crawford, TX.) Friday, a day later than originally planned."
This video criticizes Congress for going on vacation while Republican representatives hold make-believe hearings on off-shore drilling.
Meanwhile, Bush returns from China where he was sitting in the stands at the Olympics while WAR broke out in Georgia (Condi Rice was playing golf)...and then promptly announces that he will leave for his own vacation in Crawford at the end of the week.
Does the President have some obligation to be at his desk anytime any country attacks another country, when neither of these countries are us? And on top of that, is he unable to make a decision while in Texas?
Congress, on the other had, has to be in session to make decisions, they can't while out doing their own thing. These are 2 completely different things you are comparing.

And the Pickens Plan involves using those old, high-maintenance wind turbines which self-destruct in multi-directional winds.
I have been researching wind generators, for my own personal use.
There are new 'Helix' designs out there which are far superior designs to the old prop-swinging models.

The President can function outside of Washington, Congress can not.
It is irresponsible to take off without addressing such a major issue.
