I'm a hiring manger at a small dispatch company. I sometimes pretend like I'm filling out an application with everyone else. The other day a black guy was on his cell phone just blurting the N word out. He might have went on to be the best dispatcher, but if someone doesn't have enough respect not to use that language around strangers in a lobby then I wont hire them. Think about how many times a day and how many different settings that happens in.
It sounds like your teacher was not really presenting "To Kill A Mockingbird" as a work of fiction and social commentary. Not all literary uses of the "n word" are intended to oppress African American people. Even literature that is overtly racist can be turned by a good teacher into a means of examining biases and stereotypes among students today.
As you note, contemporary rappers show some very strong biases and portray stereotypes which work against communities they come out of.
Indeed, adopting negative and traditional racist terms to describe ourselves is sickening and needs to stop. As I once heard a black philosophy professor once say. "... it's a method of putting us all on the same level. Calling each other nigger is a way to remind a black person that no matter how successful in life he becomes.. he is still nothing but a nigger."
I know many educated brothers that use it too.. they have no idea the damage they cause.
I don't understand the "race war". Seems like it's arbitrarily waged against whites even though Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, etc. all participated in the Trans Atlantic slave trade. Take a look at the Cuba's volleyball team (women)...they all look like they're from Atlanta until they open their mouths. Yet the majority of the Cuban population are fair-skinned people. Most of the "athletes" are of African decent. Sound familiar (USA)?
Great video sis. I stand with you and look forward to a day when black people will no longer continue to propagate the ways of the (be they black or white) oppressors. Young people like you are the hope and enlightenment of black people tomorrow...and today.
@infidelguy Oh, look, another white male atheist who hasn't examined any of his privilege. Go back to Richard Dawkins dot net, where you can pretend you're much more "open-minded" than you already are.
Wow, your ignorance astounds me. Knowing there are people like you in the world makes me realize there is even more racism in the world than I had thought, which I didn't think was possible.
I think the more the more that the truth comes out from the oppressed, the more the oppressors want to shoot it down and deny it because they don't want to see the oppressed do well because then no longer will they be in control, we'll have self control.

we as blacks need to take advantage of the school system. We need to understand that education is the only way we can improve in society.

The H-Word (hatred) concerns me even more, as it is contributing to the destruction of countless lives each day.

What a jaded bitch. This aint the 19th or 18th century anymore. Blacks keep themselvs down. Get a life and stop trying to be a victim.

Much like Christianity. Many Christians revel in the belief that they are an oppressed minority. It's sad and hilarious at the same time.
