You built Magic Kingdom! That is incredible, I am NOT surprised that its sturdy.. With a little watered-down bond (glue) between each layer... you could probably build a house!! It would have to be protected from the elements though... I'm impressed. I'm a artist, I draw, I sculpt.. stop by if you get a chance?? ~~Tom
Thanks for the comment! I've added a few castles to the whole thing since I filmed this, and the whole marble cascade thing is connected as one chain reaction machine.
I turned the display into a kind of Rube Goldberg (chain reaction) marble cascade and uploaded a video of it (there's a link in the Info/Description).
Thanks again! I've also been visiting your website and marveling at all the dioramas and other projects you have there. It's right up my alley! I'm especially interested in the automation (like the drawbridge). The tall tower of my castle on the left used to work as an elevator system for lifting the marbles to the top of the cascade, with mini-cascades redepositing the marbles back into the elevator, and I used an oscillating fan, fishing string and a pulley to lift the elevator "piston"
up and down. Unfortunately, there was too much friction that would either burn out the fan motor or stretch the fishing string--but it would work well for about half a day. I've been looking for a way to get it to work again, but haven't been able to find the right kind of motor.
Thanks! I've only made eight of them since the mid-'90's, because they take so long to make. I started with white index cards, then kept taking them in this "fantasy" direction. The one on the left took about four months, and the marble cascade in the center was a two-month project. Looking at your castles at StormTheCastle has made me rethink how I do mine!
