Actually, just asking questions, giving hot food, and treating people nicely is the most effective tool. Ask the FBI's top investigators; it works 90% of the time. Torture doesn't. Torture, in fact, destroys any chance of getting information from someone because under torture, people will say anything to anyone, just so it will stop.
