I love Blackmore but he is a limited player as far as Purple goes. He certainly couldn't do Blackmore's Night type stuff with Purple. Steve Morse is an incredibly gifted player, writer and arranger and was already my favorite guitarist before he joined DP. That being said, I wouldn't mind if Richie came back but it isn't going to happen. We probably have a better chance of seeing another Pink Floyd reunion (without Richard Wright, of course).
@kyla2112 I did get to see DP with Richie once and it was awesome. Loved that him and Roger switched instruments for Smoke On The Water. I also saw DP with Steve on the last tour and that was also awesome. They did more early stuff then the Mark II lineup did. Hard Lovin' Man was incredible!
@kyla2112 I read Ritchie's biography once, and there's a funny story about a gig in france that they did where the audience was"so bad", that cozy powell, himself and roger glover (i think), they switched instruments and played Peter Gunn (with cozy on bass, glover on guitar and blackmore on drums), sounds hilarious
THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL,a band be able to act like a family because they lived for so long together...not fight and break up the band, the family too soon, always there, like a beloved, maybe sometimes a far, relative, but beloved....
as a musician i never had that and i admire it so much...
John Lord looks like a typical English Gentleman. You look at him and you would never know he played keyboards for one of the greatest bands ever.Ritchie on the other hand never grows old.Never has a haircut, hair still looks the same from 80s.He looks like he is ready to rock.Too bad he and Ian can't get past their quarrels .Ritchie and Ian should think of the fans who want to see them and belt out some great music.
@wannabenj What the fuck? Steve Morse has been lead guitarist for DP for 17 years. He kicks the shit out of Blackmore and all the band members love him. If it weren't for Morse, DP would have gone under a long time ago. The old DP is long gone and will never come back. Enjoy them while you can...
@beeroosterm lol. morse is better than blackmore, and if it wasnt for morse, dp would have gone under a long time ago?? er...hello? without blackmore, DP would never have surfaced in the first place..Blackmore gave well over half of the riffs that made DP a 'known' band to purple, every time you hear deep purple, it's Smoke on the water (ritchies song), hush (ritchies song) or strange kind of woman (ritchies song) etc, not many morse songs on 'best of' albums these days
@s22ad My point was that Morse resurrected DP, and it is my firm belief that without him they would have broken up for good a long time ago. Your point is well taken that RB is responsible for much of their early success and that his riffs are the focal point of their music. But Morse's musical excellence and his ability to bring his vast talents to the table and execute them are what keeps this band viable as a touring entity. Blackmore was a severely destabilizing influence.
steve morse is an excellent guitar player and has taken deep purple into the modern era i mean deep purple was greatvin the 70,s but really the band should have moved on without blackmore because blackmore though hes a great player he can be a nasty person and really deep purple when they got rid of him after 93 were better off without his bad attitude and he wasnt adding any new material to the band and now hes just a washed up old man morse owns him
@wannabenj Holy cow, I never realized Steve Morse was with them that long.As far as Ritchie I am a big fan of his for more years than I care to remember.I would love to see all of them get back together but I guess I have a better chance of losing 50 lbs by morning.
@tomthefunky Ha ha yes indeed, although me thinks Ritchie is exageratting somewhat. Think Gillan decided to call it a day at the tail end of '72 (eventually exiting stage left in June '73).
does anybody know from which dvd are this videos from.you know : Deep Purple 2 - tensions,Deep Purple - Smoke on the water riff,Deep Purple Roger Glover playing Pictures of Home.please answer me cause i've been trying to find for days!!!!Thank you
@SpudAlmighty are you telling me you think that coverdale had a voice as big as gillans? gillan could sing everything live, look at the footage of coverdale, he cant hold the notes as long, cant hit as high. coverdale would not be able to sing child in time or anything that invloves that kind of thing. coverdale had a good tone, but not as skilled as gillan.
he´s a different kind of singer, if you say that...GLENN HUGHES kills IAN GILLAN .....for example GLENN HUGHES still sings fantastic, GILLAN 20 years singing like shit and living of his name......but gillan is different of hughes
@rondoliomercutio I am not saying that Coverdale & Hughes are no tgood, but I disliked them in Deep Purple. Mach II is the line-up that rockes the best. Shame they don't get along.
@TNO73 Vocally I think that age has been kind to David Coverdale who still sounds pretty good especailly on the screaming loud stuff whereas Ian Gillan has deteriorated vocally imo. As for Glenn Hughes I never really cared for him either as a vocalist or a Bass player.
Can't they all just...get along........Seriously, they are just people....the whole MKII thing was bigger than its total parts. I like Steve Morse playing with the current lineup. I want to see Ian sing Dust in the Wind. Wahoooooo!
Ya think, Lord and Ritchie must be in...but they're not. They've moved on to do other musical projects, perhaps "old" Deep Purple fans who can't go with the flow, should move on as well.
I enjoy the current version of Deep Purple very much. Their last two albums are great.
its from the classic albums series. this particular one was on machine head. its on dvd so u can probs buy it in hmv or somewhere like tht :) youve probably got it now tho :P
thats an impressive looking bar... So if we are to believe Richie MK2 lasted 18 months with Gillans resignation in hand? Whats the fuss about MK2 anyway??? Lots of great music played by Deep Purple members before, during & after MK2 within & out of Deep Purple that we can appreciate for what is. Change is a reality that some folks have a problem with especially when it's the vocalist...
DP songs came with 5 members of the band contributing written the songs. So the songs that u love to hear from mark 2 did came from gillan and all. And when gillan left he took his talent with him and purple songs were never the same again. Unless u love to hear mark 3 which were a bit funky, but for me gillan is still the best for purple.
Fine, eloquent men. Another case of talented artists being exploited by a soulless money-making machine.

At (0:20) Blackmore says Gillan served notice to quit around 18 months before his final concert! WHAT!!!
Actually, Ian Gillan served notice to quit on December 7, 1972 in Dayton Ohio. The final MKII concert was on June 29, 1973 (in Japan).
That seems more like 7 months Ritchie! lol
