  • Aw, this helped me so much but when i went to press like i accidently hit dislike :( im so sorryy stupid touch screens :(

  • Hi, I watched a couple of other video and the player were "playing" with their left hand too while here it seems to me you are doing something different?! is it just your personal choice or are there any reasons?

  • cool

  • The water buffalo skins on my entry-level (?... $80) bongos seems dry. Is there a certain oil for them? I have lem-oil guitar fretboard conditioner as well as valve and slide oil for trumpets at my disposal, if they're any good.

I've read that just playing them with handcream on is good. Any ideas?

  • I like the sound of these bongos but I can't make out the logo really. What kind are they?

  • very nicely done, not too much talking but lettin the cueros speak for themselves muchas gracias

  • @ThePrimordialAtom

You could use individual fingers or a combination of fingers. Alternating fingers is less traumatic to the hand.

  • Nice explanation with good excercise. This gets you in the rythm.

  • unaaa buenaa clavee paraa aprender. pero todavia estoyy muy tivio me fañltaa bastantee paraa soltar las manos..!!!!!

  • Are you left or right handed?

  • Right hand dominant

  • skins dance

  • Thank you. The video was very helpful.

  • how do you know if your bongos are tuned correctly?

  • a friend of mine told me to keep the macho very tight in order to achieve the perfect clicking sound. But after the playing session, be sure to loosen the skin to keep it in top condition.

  • Can someone pls tell me how to clean my bongos? It would be a real help.

  • my friend can you help? I bought some expensive bongos but am unsure about how to tune them to make that lovely sound you get on yours...whats the technique? thanks

  • thank you for the video. it is very helpful!

  • i bought the bongo in cuba in the market-mainly b/c i love music and instruments, so i thought i'd give this cute thing a try! i love how much i can learn. My question is - can i rely on this set for the sound i'm trying to achieve? i know its incomparable to major brand bongo but how do i ensure great sound from my new 'baby' :)

  • bien muy buen tiene clave mi pana

  • Thanks for the videos. I just ordered The Art of Bongo Drumming DVD from Amazon.

  • Great Video. Does it make a difference on beat 1 whether you hit the drum with your second or middle finger?

  • You rest your fingers by alternating them and index finger indicates time 1, keeping time easily.

  • how can i get a hold of the DVD The Art of Bongo drumming? thanks..Nelin

  • excellent trevor..please check out my style of bongo playing and suggest ways for improvement..

hope you would like my unique style

  • Batchata music use the martillo and variations.

If you are having trouble getting a clean sound on 1 and 3 you maybe placing too much of your thumb on the skin and creating too much muffling effect. Armando often plays the martillo by placing only his left thumb nail on the skin. (See my DVD "The Art of Bongo Drumming". Also feel free to send me a video and I will take a look at your technique.

  • Thank-you to all of you who have send your kind words regarding this video. I will attempt to answer some of your questions.

The brand of bongos are LP Valje Armando Peraza Signature. Made of cherry wood. This particular model may have been discontinued, but Armando has another signature model through LP.

  • how do you make the first sound clean when you have your thumb down on your macho.. mine sounds very muffled and i cant get it clear any tips?

  • So is what they use for bachata ?

  • What is the brand of his bongos?

  • a lot of fun to follow along. thank you

  • If I got it right, when you hit the bongo to your right it is beat number 4?

  • Yes, this is fourth beat in the Martillo.

  • nicely done

  • gracias por los videitossss

  • very helpful thank you

  • Wow! This is great!
