  • OMG!!! that's ricky gervais?? i thought he was going to be on the show but this is still really funny. didn't even know he could sing

  • I was so close to flagging this video for a misleading title until i got to the end and my mind was blown.

  • I watch that music video religiously<3

  • I hate spics, I keep finding their kids in my garbage.

  • mind. fucked.

  • when i saw the title i thought it was going to be ricky gervais talking about mexican

  • what a cheesey tv programe

  • Holy Shite I thought that was David Bowie WTF?!

  • Americans understanding sarcasm and irony in their comedy is a new thing. UK and Aus are old hands at it. but I suspect, with their talented pool of writers, America will be just as good.

  • @pandacave666 I don't think it's the writers that are the problem but the people watching it have to understand it to watch it and I think that that's why they're miles behind the UK and Australia

  • American's understanding sarcasm and irony in their comedy is a new thing. UK and Aus are old hands at it. but I suspect, with their talented pool of writers, America will be just as good.

  • @jameszinc If you want a pop music quiz than this show doesn't want you. Go listen to bieber and try to suck your own cock.

  • I must say - I don't like how i mispelled Australia...

  • A clip from a music quiz show, without one single mention of America or Americans, sparks debate about American comedians vs British comedians? The Internet is a strange place.

  • Everyone that disses American comedy, I direct you towards Louis C.K.

  • @csqw One or two good comedians (Richard Prior Or Robin Williams are also great) does not mean that the country is full of great comedy. The people barely understand sarcasm or irony and lack the self-deprecating black humour that is considered intelligent. :)

  • @mecrutio19 That's very naive to believe that Americans barely understand sarcasm or irony.I just said Louis C.K because he's a great example. I would also include George Carlin, Woody Allen, Larry David, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Conan O'Brien, and many others as examples of great comedy. Don't get me wrong, there are some American comedians I hate(Jay Leno, Dane Cook, etc.),but that doesn't represent all American comedy. Robin Williams wouldn't even make my top 20 (maybe my opinion though).

  • @csqw You can say naive if you wish, however the point is that British comedians (And Aussie ones for that matter) avoid America. The audience simply doesn't understand the humour. It's much the same way most Australians don't find overt comedy (US vs UK Office) or slapstick funny the way Americans do. It's just a difference in national taste really. Admittedly, Carlin & Allen are also great but I wouldn't in a million years put Stewart/Colbert/O'brien in that category. Again, my opinion though.

  • @mecrutio19 You make good points, but I still think you're over-generalizing Americas taste in comedy. Also, you may disagree with Stewart and Colbert, but they're very popular and are oozing with satire, irony, and "humour that is considered intelligent". That's why I mentioned them, since you seem to believe that Americans only like people getting hit in the crotch, fart jokes, and "did you ever notice"comedy. But in the end, what's funny is funny...and even that's a matter of preference ;)

  • @csqw There's a large difference between 'overt comedy' and fart jokes or slapstick crotch hits. The fact you believe that I think proves my point. But we'll agree to disagree and leave it at taste preferences :)

  • @mecrutio19 Those are types of overt comedy. You can also include predictable storylines/punchlines or whatever, but it seems that the things I listed are how people attack American comedy. But I agree, lets leave it at a difference in taste I guess.

  • tape this on your phone did you?

  • Two Good American comedians- jerry seinfeld and george w bush

  • @richoandlisa Jerry isn't that good.

  • watching old spicks and specks episodes I've already seen isn't helping me prepare for my exam in 5 1/2 hours

  • !!! I was definitely going: "Where is Ricky?!" Niiiiiiiiiiiice

  • @matthewmttyd I like him too, but all i'm saying is this panel show seems quite cheesy, although it might of been just the guests they had on at that particular time, compare this too Mock the week, 8 out of 10 cats or Never mind the buzzcocks is all im saying ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSaintAza fuck off. god. go comment on a british comedy panel then

  • @tally388 Haha calm down mate im Australian too, i just live in the UK now.

  • @desiii420 are you an idiot it's adam hills

  • will anderson is a great host.

  • Am I in charge of me brain or is me brain in charge of me?

  • that is ausome. i love the last question.

  • "That is UNREAL" She summed it up really,... I cannot believe that! Woah.

  • omg this is like the Australian version of "never mind the buzzcocks"

  • lol, Pretty much yeah.

The first attempt at an Aust version of 'Never mind the Buzzcocks' was GNWeekend/Night-Lite, but it died a woefull death.

'Spicks and Specks' has been a much more successful conversion. Heres hopeing it lasts.

  • @DottyDotDitto

GNW was never a music panel quiz show.. yes they might have had segments where that was the topic, but spicks and specks/buzzcocks, are purely muso based...

  • In the late 90's ABC's satirical comedy show Good news week loosley based on the BBC's 'Have I Got News For You' . Resulted in the formation of 'GNW TV Pty Ltd' wich produced 2 spinoffs.

Good News Weekend on the ABC in 1998, and GNW Night Lite on Network 10 in 1999. Both based on the format of the BBC's 'never mind the buzzcocks'.

The ABC's 'Spicks and Specks' while a music based quiz show, does not follow this format and so is not required to mention 'never mind the buzzcocks' in it's credits.

  • Comment removed

  • Spicks and Specks is a tad better... in my nationalist opinion. I don't like that weedy host on Buzzcocks... he seems rather self-absorbed.

  • @sally0sally

I believe he is 'ironically' self absorbed.

  • Is it weird that I think the young version of Ricky looks quite hot???

  • Actually it's named after a famous Bee Gees song... It's one of my favourite shows

  • Lol their reaction when he said ricky gervais! ... i still love him (:

  • the show isn't scripted (except the questions, obviously), but it is heavily edited. They remove the 5-10 minutes after the question is asked and before they get the answer, leaving in only funny stuff.

  • @Groovemaster1001 If you've ever purchased or seen their DVD's you'll realise they edit the really funny stuff - Stuff that's usually inappropriate for general viewing at the 7pm time slot

  • LMAO

  • this is aussie version of Never mind the Buzzcocks, its a mix of music and comedy

  • In all fairness guys, this is a music trivia show. Not a comedy show. So why is everyone getting so worked up because 4 minutes of a show aren't amusing? Besides, I bet there are hilarious shows that have 4 minutes worth of content that aren't amusing.

  • this is actually good, it's more like a question of sport over here in the uk than it is never mind the buzzcocks. qos is a trivia show that sticks to the quiz element but is also funny. I like this

  • lol when they thought he was a nobody they ripped him to shreds...

  • Calm down you bunch of retards.

  • we dont get it here in australia. i havent seen it, at least.

    but yeah it is.

  • poor ricky.. thats pretty embarrassing XD

  • AHAHAHAHA SPICKS!!

  • that's cuz american comedy's not funny, brit humour is the best followed by canadian

  • Comedy from Britain, Ireland, Canada and Australia is the best beacuse they understand Irony

  • Oh the irony of their feeble attempts at being funny about a man who has had millions in stitches, Gervais could get more laughs with a single facial expression.

  • so unfunny its unreal.

  • Wow, what an intelligent thing to write as a post, an entire country sucks at life based on 4 minutes of a t.v show.

What a witty individual you are, can i ring you? or are you busy aty (?) the moment writing your screenplay?

  • Oh? where do you live then thats so great ing the world? huh?

  • the greatest country in the world ... england. The most free country in the world !

  • australias answer to never mind the buzzcocks is worse than the seona dancing video..

only funny bit was the end, "other names for the band, seona going home.. seona getting undressed seeing us and calling the police" but that didnt really make much sense either

  • they are ignorant...

  • "he looks like nick cave after he's been through a car wash"

  • Ricky must be so sick of shows bring this clip up.

  • god knows we are

  • we also have Good news week.

  • why so cruel? We love spicks and specks here in australia, there must be something you're missing. And yes I watch Buzzcocks too.

  • Sorry just my opinion. On Buzzcocks it's laugh a minute, or laugh a second sometimes, that just wasn't amusing.

  • its ok, you're entitled to an opinion, its just that you really should watch a whole episode before you dismiss the whole show as crap.

  • Perhaps.

John Frusicante is awesome by the way.

  • Are you kidding me? Good news week is shit as, it always has a load of comic wanna be's on there.

  • damn, I hate Adam Richards!! he isn't funny and is just bloody offensive. please get him off of our televisions!!!

  • Lol, Aussies.

  • is this the aussie never mind the buzzcocks?...its shite.

  • Yeah. It is.

It's alright, but not anywhere near as good. Never Mind the Buzzcocks has access to better people and it's original so the format is better.

I still love this though...being Aussie and all.

  • Actually this is based on an old radio program apparently.

  • Erm I'm British and I've got to say the greatest comedians around today are Americans.

We Brits have a bit too much of a superiority complex when it comes to humour. There's still tonnes of unfunny shit on our little ole isles.

Also, I do comedy so if anyone knows about getting on this high horse it's me...

  • Simon,Simon,Simon purleese M8!

As someone who has thoroughly enjoyed endless different Comedy Gems since the 1960's , allow me to state that in my very 'umble opinion British Comedies have had a far higher ratio of top class gems.

    Fawlty Towers/Steptoe/Partridge/B;ackadder/Only Fools/Ab.Fab./Till Death/Porridge/Hancock/The Office etc etc....

USA: Bilko/Married With Children/Curb/Arrested but far more UK overthe years!

  • America has most of the worlds worst comedians. Britain has the best.

  • I think Australia has some of the best and i mean its not a competition on whos got the best comedians.

  • I agree. Austrailia and UK produce the best comedians.

  • @ignorantpom Don't forget Ireland. Half of the ones in the UK are Irish.

  • @iamelegy Ahh typical Irishman forever sponging off Britains talent because some of the acts have celtic ancestory.

  • @DisneysDreamDebased Like Dara O'Briain, Ed Byrne, Andrew Maxwell, Dylan Moran...

    All well known Brits. ;)

  • @iamelegy Oh right sorry.

I thought you were doing that very Irish thing of claiming that someone is Irish because they have some celtic ancestory.

  • @iamelegy

Well ofc. N.Ireland is included in UK. I don't speak for the south...

  • @ignorantpom yeah but unless they hit America, they are nothing. They have to come to America to be known around the world, so stfu

  • @HPhenomenal

I'm around the world and I can't think of one american comedian (except the ones that have come here).

Well tbf, I enjoy Robin Williams but that's about it.

  • @ignorantpom You enjoy Robin Williams? Then your views on comedy are worth nothing. Everyone knows that hack is a worthless joke thief. Try looking up people like Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, H. Jon Benjamin, John Glaser, David Cross, Eugene Mirman. I could go on and on. Robin Williams... You just showed your complete lack of knowledge when it comes to American comedy.

  • Comment removed

  • @ignorantpom There was definitely a time when I 100% agreed, but that was before I discovered the wonderfully funny George Carlin on Youtube. How could anyone from anywhere in the world not find him hilarious?

  • @20callenderslady I absolutely agree

  • @ignorantpom I'd put Ireland in the bracket too.

  • @ignorantpom I'd be more more inclined to say UK and Ireland. Australia does have some good stand up comics, but hardly any sitcoms. Actually, I don't think there are any Aussie sitcoms of late, except for Angry Boys by Chris Lilley (Summer Heights High fame). We have very little to go by sitcom-wise, so UK, Ireland and US take us by the balls by far in that respect. Not that we suck, just that there is little financing available for production, unfortunately.

  • @darkninja9996 you're stupid.

  • @darkninja9996 tina fey? i disagree on. Dane Cook- definitely. subjective, your comment is.

  • @darkninja9996

    it sure does honey

  • You disgust me! How dare you talk about Australia that way? These people are in no way representing Australia's culture, land or even 'humor'.They're mostly just radio presenters, not professional comedians. Australian people are awesome, funny people but mostly, accepting of other cultures. I've always thought the Brit's were the same? But now I'm left to wonder if that is the case, after reading your comments. You're right, British comedians are hilarious. But you, you're just a nob.

  • all im concerned with is your complete disrespect to Australia.

your obvious issue with Brit's coming to Australia is a little sad.

i mean, it's probably them you should be taking this up with, instead of insulting Australia, our culture and our 'weather', on a youtube video..

oh, and barry humphries, Jim Jeffries, carl barron, dave hughs, paul hogan.. just to name a few.

no disrespect to Brit's by the way. i think you guys are awesome..some of you are just a little closed minded is all.

  • barry humphries, Jim Jeffries, carl barron, dave hughs, paul hogan....

Well I know of Barry and Paul so thats me well and truly told!!

Your last sentence is uncannily accurate M8:)!!

    Cheers!

  • Oi mate, I absolutely agree. America and their overweight, lazy youth. Fuck them bollocks.

  • @PureZOOKS Yes hahaha

  • @PureZOOKS

    Amen to that!!

  • @PureZOOKS You know, I'm from America.... and I agree with you 100%. It's depressing that it must be that way, but it's true.

  • @colorguarddrummajor well, all countries have our down side these days.

  • I understand what you're saying but is it really relevant to this video at all?

At least you're defending Britain I guess, Britain is always sold as a dying country, it isn't, it's just changing like every other country in the world.

And Australia does have a good track record of producing good comics, many of the best work the UK circuit today.

  • e.g dame edna

  • i can tell your one of those guys who spurts what invaluable knowledge they have at any opportunity.

  • Nah i'm just a cunt mate, you got it all wrong.

  • wow...

  • Ricky was a lil bit bowie-esque

  • Title should be Gervais IN S&S, not ON S&S

  • Burrrrrr

  • holy shit

    that was ricky gervais

  • WoW looks like two diff people!!! crazy

  • This is awful.

  • ricky gervais was fucking hot.

  • Ricky Gervais is awesome!!!!

  • knicky from grease XD

  • spicks & specks is awesome, I dunnoe half of the song but they're awesome esp live!

  • for the people who dont like this show there are shows like 'dancing with the stars' and other such rubbish

  • how can u not find this show funny get a sense of humour

  • i lived in the UK and i can tell you for sure that s&s is wayyyy better then nmtbc. even if it is much more low budget. the jokes are funnier the guests are less lame and there is more actual quiz then shitty small talk.

  • would you all just shut up, this is a great show with funny people and interesting trivia and songs. If you don't like go watch big brother or some other crap on channel nine.

  • whatever, you don't know anything

  • I agree, I'm a Brit who lives in Australia and most of the TV shows are either British or Australian trying to be British

  • yeh.

but whyd you wana move to australia?!? :S

  • If we wanted to be british, we'd be pommies, not aussies.

  • Not sure I even get what you're trying to say

  • dunno wat they're laughing at ricky looked hot

  • "...it really is the poor man's nevermind the buzzcocks.."

They've said a billion times on this show that it was inspired by the format from that show and applied it to spicks and specks..it's not a new surprise. They even had the original presenter off nevermind the buzzcocks on once!

I'll never understand why people don't like a show, yet they still watch it and complain...just change the channel!!

  • i agree. And if it looks like the poor man's NMTB, it's because it's on an ABC budget. Be glad it doesn't look like the set of the 7.30 report. I wouldn't have Spicks & Specks any other way :)

  • hahahahahhaa

  • it really is the poor man's nevermind the buzzcocks... this show is bearable if it has hamish or maybe Ross Noble on it, but just the mention of somebody like ricky gervais emphasizes how average the whole affair is... I'm Australian and it annoys me to see our industry churning out sub-standard tv shows, because all it does is make other people loose faith in our ability to write and produce anything decent, which eventually puts people like me out of a job

  • Totally agree, pencils! It's embarassing how crap our so-called comedy shows are.Notice how many of them have that awful "panel" or the "adhoc""adlib" gameshow spoof set up. This illustrates how lacking in originality/skill our comedy writers really are, relying on lame panel-type banter between "stars" who think screaming loudly and saying "shit" occasionally makes them irreverent and funny. They are sadly mistaken.Australian comedy will never be taken seriously. And that's not funny.

  • Jeez you're thick.

  • thats cause he wrote down notes as we watched the clip- you idiot!

  • ya have to live here in oz to appreciate this show..it's got a cult following

  • but i really really wish they broadcast it in Britain :(

  • The humour on this show seems a little forces as does the laughter. I can see what the problem is though. There needs to be more natural banter between the panelist but of course that would make it even more like Buzzcocks. The Chaser on the other hand is actually quite good.

  • there is a lot of natural banter, but because the show is only half an hour most of it gets cut. I went to a taping that went for about an hour and half, and that got cut to 30mins.

  • Then I suggest thay are leaving the comedy on the cutting room floor.

  • Yeah it seemed like all the jokes were lame, like any joe a pub would make. I didn't laugh at any of the bits the panelists and the audience laughed at. Really simple and predictable humour. It's not Australian humour, just bad selection of panelists (and presenter). When he said "because they used to watch her dancing on the dance floor" I immediately saw it coming, this audience is sloooow, or canned.

  • Well i was hoping for some funny jokes about the then, unknown ricky gervais and was greatly disappointed by the appaulingly bad aussie sense of humor and terrible one liners. Dire.

  • You were "greatly disapponted"...mate you need more in your life is an Aussie panel game is so distressing.

And the "appaulingly" (sic) bad Aussie humour is an absurd thing to say.

  • Ohh Adam Hill is on Mock The Week now and again! He's good!

  • God help me, if I read one more person refer to The Chaser as "The Chasers" or, even more incorrectly, "The Chaser's", I'll kill myself. Now, as an Australian I will happily admit that there is a complete dearth of good comedy in Australia (with the odd exception), and it's something that the British do much better than us. In fact, most of our networks have completely given up on Au
