  • Check his new album: Fight Songs. Return to form.

  • This is just plain fantastic.

  • First time I heard "Back to Basics" in the 80's it was a badly needed breath of fresh air , from a one man band it is still amazing..

    Good art never fades ..

  • Does anyone know what kind of guitar that is?

  • @EddieFraud burns steer

  • A great Version from this Song, with an amazing Trumpetsolo.Excellent.

  • Is this complete set available on dvd or something???

  • greatness.

  • I have loved this song since the first time I heard it.

The trumpet is my favorite part...this absolutely rocks.

  • i listen to billy bragg for a few years now and i've never heard this song. i love the four tops and billy bragg plus i'm from and live in Detroit so it makes it even better

  • Billy, ЦАРЕ!

  • The essence and spirit of the times that Billy Bragg was at his most televised (the mid to late 80's) are essential now, more than ever before.

I'll always respect that he deliberately instructed all record shops (label on front sleeves) to sell his albums, CD's, singles and tapes at a reduced rate. So unemployed and low income earners could afford his music. That was and has remained an inspiration to me in my own work as a voluntary independent media producer.

    Salute to ya Billy :)

  • the trumpet in this song adds an entirely new dimension giving it more depth and flavor. Just makes the whole song more haunting.

  • It sure does.

    Powerful song still :)

  • @upstatelugh Respect to you. Integrity is forever. You are the real deal. Rock on, dude.

  • @1unsung Cheers 1unsung. Peace :)

  • The Fours Tops are amazing as is this song.

  • Levi Stubbs tearsrun down my face

  • Brilliant

  • I saw this wonderful guy on stage at the Roskilde festival in Denmark back in -96. How one guy with just a guitar and his voice could rule the stage and the whole area around with this song and other wonderful songs was really amazing!

  • thanks for the vid. brings back a load of good memories. cheers.

  • R.I.P. Levi...

A valid voice of the sixties.

The echo of your voice will be remembered forever...

  • Godspeed Levi. Your legacy is immortal.

  • RIP LEVI.

    God bless you Soulman

  • Wow, pre-Toni Blair Britain, Billy Bragg, Easterhouse, etc. - these were the days. So sorry, Maggie Thatcher can't remember that time ...

  • 1991 - Town & Country Club, London

    Think its a BBC recording.

  • Cheers, thanks-fairly sure I was there, actually.I have certainly seen him at that venue a number of times including around then.

  • This is an excellent video-I would be interested to know when/where this was.
