It looked like once the buttons and such were glued onto the plastic lid, a thumbtack was placed on the mat, pointy side up, and the plastic lid was then centered over it and pushed down onto it. Then the eraser of the pencil was pushed down onto it. You can then spin it by hand.

Interesting mini-project.

The video could have been about 4 minutes shorter though - it dwelled for a long time on some very simple steps of the procedure.
