Why do people think it's clever to moan and try to belittle via comments. If you don't want to watch him, don't! Thanks for the tips, I can't buy the extract here but thanks for the recipe, I may find it online.
(WARNING: Sarcasm mode activated.) Yeah... Ppl are really gonna have the equipment to do this, and it doesn't seem like some1 forced you to do this video
@themetalkid1996 He's 11 now and made 10 gallons last weekend for a Boy Scout event. He has the recipe refined and it kicks ass! The only thing he can't do is lift the kegs into the cooler and in the truck to transport. His butter beer is amazing! Never doubt what kids can do when they get interested something that is fun!
@mikepags I was wondering that to! :-) I did get an email from a guy in Scotland and they do not have root beer in Scotland. I guess we take things like this fro granted! We're making 10 gallons tonight for a Boy Scout trip! WooHoo!
@NatWolff43567890 Thanks Nat so do we. We just completed a new batch and it is spicy! This is a fun family project. Yes it takes some equipment but we have a great time and learn in the process.
@Dinoman5069 If you did see the video you would have noticed he used hot water to dissolve the water, sugar and maltose dexitrin and then chilled the root beer down before carbonating. But you are as much of an idiot to denigrate a 10 year old to show how smart you are! Take your dumb ass somewhere else!
OK, you say you pressurized to 50 psi[g], then the head pressure will drop to 12-15 psi[g]. This implies that after the initial pressurization, you shut-off the CO2 supply. Is that correct? Have you ever just pressurized to 50 psig and then held it at that pressure for the entire week?
@KitemanTV Yes I only hit the keg with co2 and do not leave it hooked up to the keg. I know some folks leave 12 psi on kegs over time and carbonate that way but I do not. I like the higher pressure to make sure the keg seals. I generally only have to hit the keg a couple of times with co2. This also keeps me from losing a tank of co2 if I have a leaky hose.
Kiteman we pressurize the keg initially with about 50 psi. This makes the keg seal properly. As the co2 absorbs into solution the head pressure drops. We try to stabilize at about 12-15 psi.
I am a home winemaker and home breer. While root ber made with yeast does taste good, there is a huge risk of exploding bottles. For every 5 gallons of root beer I make I add just 1 cup of sugar and the yeast, and bottle. I sweeten it when it's poured. This method ensures no broken bottles.
We researched that a little and found that is was more work than we wanted to do at this time. There are some articles out on the net that tell how to do it.
CO2 is added with a CO2 tank and regulator. We crank the pressure up to about 50 psi. As the co2 is absorbed into the solution the head pressure drops. We wait about a week and pull off a glass and if it carbonated enough we drink it. There are tons of articles of the mechanics on forced carbonation on the web.
you know, me and my dad made rootbeer as a kid, we used yeast, and it tasted just fine, probably gave the hires rootbeer its characteristic... but force carbonation that always works
What kind of yeast did you use? Some say not to use champagn yeast but I have seen kits forsale that include it, durr?! Did you measure the alcohol of this stuff? I have heard its not usually more than 2-3%unless you hot rod the recipe with more sugars and use yeast.
thanks for that im from scotland and i went to florida on my hliday so ive only had root beer a couple of times and i love it and you dont get root beer in scotland
Really? I guess we just take it for granted that Root Beer is an American drink! Easy to make even in small amounts. Take a look at my PET bottle carbonation cap. You can order the flavor extract and make small amounts.
Sorry for the long response. It was powdered maltosdexitrin. It gives the root beer some body. You can get it at homebrewing or winemaking supply shops.
How well does the root beer hold carbonation? Would you be able to bottle it straight from the keg without it going flat?
xxbulaxx 3 months ago
@xxbulaxx It holds great as long as you have a CO2 tank to dispense just like restaurants. You can bottle also with no problem.
