  • This guy is a Genius. Seriously. He's good I think he speaks at least 3 languages.

  • Kike yo ! :D

  • Oh my God. I understood that shit

  • YOURE BLACK?!?!?!?! shieeeeeet, and i thought i was the only black person that studied japanese :[ LOLOL

  • I watched this video in 2009 and understood 3 words.

I watched it again today and understood every single part.

    Thanks Katz.

  • @mafuuba so how far have you gotten in your japanese using ajatt? I started a couple months back but had to put it on hold cause of circumstances. but now im looking to get back into it, so im wondering how far you've progressed using ajatt.

  • @zeroboroz At the moment I understand pretty much 100% of all anime/TV shows/movies I watch and can read pretty much anything, even if I don't understand it all. I do struggle understanding the news, but that mainly because of specific terminology. for example "At the fukushima plant ____ exploded resulting in ____ leaking". But you pick up on words.

My listening, writing and reading skills are good, but my speaking is poor. That's mainly because I haven't had much opportunity to test it out.

  • @mafuuba Huh? Shouldn't the news be the easiest to understand?? The newscasters have to speak perfectly clear Japanese, they can't slur their speech, they can't shorten words, they can't talk fast......unlike if you're watching some Beat Takeshi variety show where he speaks like his pants are on fire.

  • @LifeFirst That's part of what AJATT is all about. You become better in the areas specify in. I was mainly watching movies/anime/tv shows/variety shows so I picked up on the more day to day speak. I probably phrased it wrong but what I meant was I do understand the newscasters, it's just that they use a lot of words I don't know. But you pick up on them the more you watch it. It really is better this since you'll be able to speak and understand true Japanese.

  • @mafuuba Gotcha! now I'll have to stock up on tools necessary for ajatt. don't have to worry about anki, but music and news is a problem. you know any good websites for music or that show news in japanese? I have all intention to pull a khatz on learning japanese lol

  • @zeroboroz The website that you're on on now...youtube....has millions of Japanese videos. 90% of my Japanese listening comes from Youtube.

  • @LifeFirst true, but I'm not on the internet all the time so i need resources that aren't connected to the internet, but i do get what you mean though. as a side note i've gotten everything i needed so im good but thanks for responding!

  • @zeroboroz I know this comment is a month old, but here's some advice: get itunes and make an account. Then, change your location to Japan and you get access to copious amounts of free Japanese podcasts about every topic you could want. Also, heaps and heaps of free audio dramas.

Even better, pick up an ipod touch or iphone and you can have a constant flow of new listening content since you can download from anywhere within reach of wifi.

  • @zeroboroz Hoping to get out to Japan sometime next year so it'll improve there, Best advice is to never stop absorbing Japanese. Make it become second nature. Katz is right, literally anyone can do this. Good Luck!

  • ちげ~んだよぉwwwwww笑ったw

  • To be sincere, I understood only a few words though I'm currently studying Japanese at university, but I spent the past few days surfing on the net, searching for, uhm you know, tools, websites, anything that could provide me videos and things to listen to Japanese, and I came across your website, AJATT, and I understood what was wrong with me. I was just studiyng Japanese, I wasn't living it. That's just the way to learn, but it seems I wasn't able to understand it myself.

    So, thank you :)

  • lol I like how he just looks at the camera at the end like "Yeah... that's right. "

  • cho cho cho cho KIKKE YOU

    lololol

*** dedicated to our future pioneers***

  • @TheConspiracyMan8 こいつ頭が悪いみたいだ…

  • This works, no matter what people say.

  • Hey, anybody lol, I just started learning japanese and do anyone have any tips. Anything is good, thank you..

  • @Stepisin start off by learning basic katakana and hiragana. then practice reading and writing japanese words. try writing a letter about something and translate it into japanese either romaji or kana. that should give you a quick boost into learning japanese. then you can go read some articles written in kana that way you can pick up words and memorize ones you've already used. also, a good japanese speaking buddy would help.

  • @Stepisin

    Google AJATT.

  • ちょちょちょ-聞けぇ~よ XD

  • bllaaaahh.. watashi wa shigoto shiteru ..hehe demo ano hito sugoi .,

  • 日本の論点でしょ!本棚に。

    あれ2009年からずっと愛読してますよ^^

    面白いですよね。

  • ato de sono nihongo hoho tsukau atashi no nihongo wa motto sugoku kedo hanashite yori kaite. Dakedo MINASAN ANO HOHO TSUKAU

  • @BriCareful i'll keep using this method for sure ! thanks for that comment too because it forced me to look up 'ato de' . i rarely look stuff up as i dont wanna get stuck thinking in strict translation. but this time it helped.

    keep it up x

  • @mowgli123456789 Hey, I was just wondering how your Japanese is coming along now? Are you still AJATT-ing?

  • @Muso992 I think he is studying Chinese, but at a slightly slower pace

  • this guy has a bad ass voice for japanese..perfect for a anime character voice castiing

  • im back! dont know how long its been. i stop counting ages ago. just having fun learning and ive blocked out any thoughts of 'the end goal'.

so this time round i understood a whole bunch more. really getting complete sentences coming through now.

the whole thing near the start about him saying how you can obviously spot that its a foreigner and stuff....got almost all of that ! :)

big wins this time.... happy happy!

  • 僕もなんか嵌っちゃっいましてね。勝元さんは本当の歴とした日本人かと思いましたよ。

  • So inspiring :) がんばろう〜

  • Why are you speaking japaneese?

  • @signupsigma Because he's in Japan having a conversation with a Japanese?

  • @signupsigma why not?

  • use this then watch youtube vids an I SWEAR you will look down on everyone who cant speak japanese as good as you

  • im back. im better. this works..

  • ok im back.

This time i've noticed my understanding has gone through the roof.... :)

I think mainly because i've just started hitting tae kim's grammer guide sentences on anki. you need LOTs of input before you can get to the stage of taking in tae kims guide without setting up lots of bad habbits.

you could be in danger of loading lots of canned phrases in you head that will get stuck there.

But it has help me a lot! and this time around i really got the overall gist of what he's saying

  • @mowgli123456789 Yeah I haven't seen this video in a couple of months and came back and understood A LOT more than before. This method helps and is FUN!

  • Wow before I saw this video I was a bit of a doubter, but you're the real deal! I'm going to do a marathon reading of your blog...

  • ok im back.

this time i only understood a couple more words. but im taking that as what it is. a couple more words!.... as in PROGRESS!!

i also found it much easier to follow things and understand at a much faster pace. before i would keep rewinding the vid to re-check bits but now im getting what i am out of it in real time.

every time i watch this (with a gap in between) I WIN !

  • @mowgli123456789 I agree this really works i wish u luck

  • @BriCareful thanks dude. how far are you into this ..??

  • @BriCareful hmmm its hard to say bcuz im in high school and its hard for me to do everyday but i have rosetta stone and i use 2 onlline learning things tto and the music and only japanese TV but for like 3 months and i pick up a lot of words and phrases

  • @mowgli123456789 ima anata no nihongo wa dou?????

  • @BriCareful not bad, im the same as you i think. find it easier reading and writing then speaking and understanding. but im getting then.

best of luck to you and keep in touch x

  • the more i get into japanese and improve. The more closer i am in getting to fluency in japanese.

  • Khatz, if you have some spare time, hook us up with some subs.

  • @jonmahoney04 The real reward is understanding it after you learn the language :D

  • Truly, but I'm using AJATT principles to learn other languages. Just curious as to what he's saying. ;-)

  • もう無しだ!

  • 本物の日本???

  • ok i only lasted a month before checking again.

but AGAIN my comprehension seems to get better ten fold each time!

i think its right what he keeps saying about the basics all the time! i havent done anything BUT the basic all this last month, it really does help!!

    :)

  • haha i remeber i had trouble reading these kanji

    AJATT勝元殿&龍さんの漫談

    not a problem anymore!!

  • .....so im back, and, i have got better!! imagine that! ..be back in a month or 2.....

  • i like japan!

    i like pizza!

  • マぁ、本物の日本人だな。

  • タグ: 変な外人wwwwwww

  • im definatley gonna use this video as a kind of 'control' video.

gonna check back in every few months to see if my understanding has improved...

  • Watching this video again for the second time in 6 months or so, I can see a big improvement in my Japanese. I've been following his method and I pretty much understood everything, I at least got the gist of it. 勝元殿、どうもありがとうございました!

  • keep up the work. I've only been doing this for around 2.5 months of immersion and 2.5 months for kanji/kana. My understanding is going as well/reading. So confident i;ll see some good results in 1 year's time.

  • How about another video... we all want one... PLEASE...

  • Yeah this is actually kind of how I've been attempting to learn for the past few years I just haven't kept up very well. I understand at least 30% of what's being said.

So I think I'll keep up. Thanks Khatz for helping to rekindle my desire to speak Japanese.

  • The only way to be able to tell the difference is to listen to it alot and learn words

  • くそワロタw

    おもしろ~い

  • i shall attempt this AJATT i dunno how i'll fit it in with my art courses this semester (i spend like 5 hours on 2 art classes. *cries*) maybe ill use that time to listen to japanese music and humm it and annoy my classmates. oh yes.

  • how long did it take you to learn japanese?

  • it took him 18 months.

If you didn't know, he has a website:

    alljapaneseallthetime[dot]com

its really helpful if your deticated :D

  • VERRRRRRY Helpful if your a J-hermit like me

  • you just added 8 more minutes to my listening time....sweet.

  • I strive to be like you. <3

  • khats you are indeed my hero. lmfao

  • can't wait until you make another video... is inspiring as a Japanese language learner to see a foreigner speak so fluent.

  • Not bad... for a homie.

  • Khatz, YOU'RE MY HERO. I WANNA PARTY WITH YOU.

  • You're awesome!!!!!

  • あの、すみませんですけど、もう別のビデオを作ってくれませんか? 私たちはもう一回、あなたの偉いそうな声を聞きたいんですから。しかし、もう再びビデオを作りたければ、話題はアニメと日本の映画をしてくれませんか?

  • あ、なるほどな、誤解だたご免ね

  • 勝元君は教科書は苦労とか無駄だと主張したのに本棚は教科書いっぱいじゃん;)

  • (笑)。

    違いますよ~ん。

    普通の本で御座ります。

  • @Khatzumoto how do you even type those characters? lol

  • @ryanvertz20 Well, he lives in Japan, and presumably uses a Japanese keyboard, but it's pretty easy even without that:

    1) Google 'how type japanese windows'

    2) click on pretty much any link that turns up

    3) download the Microsoft global IME or whatever it's called

    4) follow instructions, etc etc

In short, this--as with most questions--can be answered through the magic of Google.

  • your accent is really good! x

  • Please make one more video of you speaking. Please.................

  • CONTINUED- still i think you need to learn basic grammar and stuff (especially particles_; e.g. "~をめぐって~", and e.g."(勉強すれば)勉強するほど上手になる") that differs so much from english and other languages) - - but thumbs up for your japanese :)

  • For Kanji, he used James Heisig's Remebering the Kanji method.

Well not exactly, the took Heisig's method and applied to another book since he was planning to study Chinese before he took on Japanese.

Although he does recommend using Heisig's book if you are learning Japanese.

Also he recommends using an SRS program while studying Kanji.

  • CONTINUED- i mean you said you were not using any textbooks or anything- i understand the thing about becoming fluent in the language by using it all the time, 'cause i'm doing exchange in japan atm, and i learn a lot more than the two years i did back home. same with english, even though i learned it in school, i still think i've learned a lot more from just using it all the time, like with movies, games, music, anything - -

  • sorry if this is included in one of the "All Japanese All the Time" by TkyoSam, but i haven't watched them all, so i'll just ask you: what about kanji? how do you learn that by not writing them again and again?

  • go on his website lol..

  • Wow you're good!

  • I hate you! :)

No seriously, your level looks super good. I think i'll try using your technique.

  • when he speaks there is no searching for words. It comes to him as if it was naturally that way.

  • I have no idea what you were discussing but that was extremely inspiring. BTW.....what's under the skull cap? back to AJATT now.

  • Bro, you speak damn good Japanese! I can't distinguish your pronunciation from a Japanese.

  • あなたわ佳! I still have a long way to go but I'm using my own method. You're very inspirational though. ^_^ チャン語がんばって~!

  • Take your list of Kanji/Hanzi.. paste it into google.. it should bring up a sentence..3 searches per word = 6000/9000 sentences.. the common characters will fall into place by themselves and you ensure you get a sentence with each word you studied earlier. Just a suggestion :)

  • that sounds very interesting but if possible could you explain that better or perhaps only in another way ???

  • going by this method.. if you have trouble finding sentences (10,000) ..go back to your single kanji/hanzi words in ur SRS.. take one paste it into google and it should bring that word up in a sentence... that way you cover all of the individual kanji/hanzi u learned previously frmo "remembering the kanji/hanzi"..

  • Ok so it was as simple as that, thanks a lot for explaining it again for me ^^ appreciate

  • Any new videos coming up? I'm on sentence 370 but I feel I've already made some noticeable improvement.

  • You rock bro. Make more videos.

  • AllJapaneseAllTheTime [dot] com

  • どうでもいい、いい動画やなw

    わろた

  • Just started your system, so far very excited I can't sleep well at night because I want to study more but I know I have to take it easy with the SRSing at the start or I'll get overwhelmed later.

  • I just started too, are you working on the kanji or starting on building up sentences?

  • majimeni!!..

  • Most fluent gaijin I've ever seen , go Katz!

  • @MaboroshiPan , Emily does a good job too. Hopefully she'll become a bit more serious on her videos

  • お疲れ様~

  • OMG!! *runs around like a headless chicken*

    :D

  • やっと出て来たあ!日本語が本当にうまいだな。

  • I also agree with the input method and have been using to learn German before I go on to other languages.

  • awesome, dude... this is so inspiring.

    Keep up the excellent job.

I'm just starting my kanji reps

  • Was waiting for this video... Awesome thanks...

  • しんじられない!すごいな!

  • zomg, dubbed! There's no way some hip hop thug with headphones around his neck can speak Japanese!

Seriously though, I'm just starting this whole process (literally I only started a few days ago) and this is very inspiring to watch. When you originally moved to Japan was your Japanese at around this level, or have you improved significantly since then? And are you considered to have much of an accent?

Anyways, thanks! Now we can put you on loop instead of the news :P

  • Finally!!! Khatz has made it to the tubes!

  • Comment removed

  • Finally, you're such a big help. I'm done the Kanji and on to sentences (300+). I really feel your method is working!

  • I'm so glad your making videos now

  • finally :D

  • You are truly an inspiration to many. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Puerto Rico.

  • zomg, Your book shelf really is filled with Japanese books:0

I guess we now know that your methed works?=D

  • I don't undestand a word, but it sounds like good Japanese to me.

  • This is awesome. You've always said you could speak awesomely, but I don't think we've ever actually heard you... UNTIL NOW.

    Lookin' forward to more! :O

    also those tags are brilliant

  • haha just noticed them

gotta love his sense of humour!

  • Funny to finally see you in action.
