No he was with 300 spartans and about 4000 allies at thermopylae at 380bc, yes he wore heavy battle armor, and during the last day, after he sent away the rest of his army, he charged with what was left of his 300 and 700 thespians against the Persians. I 'm from Greece, I know who Leonidas was, and to my opinion he was a Real hero.

About Beowulf, that's what I was trying to say, that he is a mythical hero in a poem/ballad.

Yeah I gotta admit the storyline in Beowulf was awesomely conceived from the book. 300 is based on older historic records, but Beowulf is set in the fanatically classic dragon vs. knight/goblins and ghouls/giant vs. man etc. time known as the Anglo Saxon era. If you ask me, Beowulf and Leonidas are equally kick ass set in their own times. Let them meet, and you have one hell of a team.

dude there has been like 2 or 3 other beowulf movies before this one. including one that came out about a year before 300 did starring who? the actor who plays leonidus. make sure you have the right production in mind because there has been many. even if they did start production before 300, that line, I AM BEOWULF is obviously playing off the hype THIS IS SPARTA got. no question. they just tried to copy it. just like all thoese other fantasy movies since lord of the rings.
