No body else could achieve what James Dean did in his portrayal of Cal in "East of Eden". The director and John Steinbeck knew as soon as they saw Dean that he was Cal. Neither Newman or Brando were right for this role, which goes to show that the three shouldn't be compared. Three gifted actors with their own flair and signature style. "Rebel without a Cause" was too easy and any of them would've pulled it off. "Giant" show cased Dean's genius once again as "East of Eden" did.
