  • I <i>was</i> using a tripod, but I had to keep moving it, because the Shuttle and ISS move quite quickly, and I had to be VERY tightly zoomed-in to see them as distinct objects. It would have been impossible to get any kind of meaningful footage at all without a tripod; my hands aren't nearly that steady.

    If you watch for the brief periods where the Shuttle & ISS are moving in a straight line, diagonally from right/bottom to left/top across the screen - that's when the tripod was stationary.
