And you're not the second largest contributer, maybe you don't receive much but Italy and France pay more than the UK does. You even have a cut of 3.5 billion euros. Isolated? The EU simply made the loss of private banks the loss of the taxpayers (especially the german ones) Soon Greece will default, then the EZB loses all it's capital base since it (against it's rules of procedure) buyed 190 billion€ of greek obligations which won't be worth a penny then. The European Parliament can only accept or reject what gets passed to it from the Commission. This mirrors the former Soviet system, where the Parliament creates an illusion of democracy, but that Parliament has no actual real political power. This is a huge step away from a democratic system, where law makers are voted in or out of office by the people.

@The1hope4all however in the eu the president of the commision is candidated by the council and elected by the parliament and he then forms the commision from candidates put forward by the 27 state goverenments. this commision is then approved by parliament. so the commision is put in power by the elected body of the eu.

The European sense of democracy is strong - we started it after all - and the few parts where we could do better we activly try to make ourselves more democratic. Look at the Lissbon-treaty. China is a dictatorship and it is not even trying to be better. Comparing China to Europe just shows a dangerous lack of contemporary politics.

Europe is far from a real union. Until we don't have the same lanuage, currency and other standards we will remain divided and weak. I think in like thirty-forty years there will be one global superpower with the same currency, language and culture. This is inevitable. Just think about it.
