Obama is not stupid. I bet he knows about the benefits marijuana coud have not only on health but also the economy and probably a new, better world order.
If he legalized marijuana he would indeed change the world.
He's either afraid of, or in cahoots with the anti-cannabis lobbyists, corporations and countless others who would lose big money.
That's why more people need to be educated about cannabis and its potential.
Barack: SLIPPERY SLOPE!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? But seriously, your generation needs to realize that these prohibitive laws do way more harm than good, and a bunch of other things...
In California, medicinal users grow their own plants and this does not and has not caused any issues whatsoever. Slippery slope? No. It just means users of the drug wont have to go every few days to get a script refill that the greedy pharmaceuticals will jump all over the chance to exploit once medicinal marijuana is more marketable. Instead they can harvest their own crop and not have to worry about the slimebag insurance agencies and pharmaceuticals breathing down their neck.
if i did any over the counter or prescribed pain killer as much as i did pot i would be dead by now. its near harmless. did you know it has only been illegal for 1% of the time people have used it? it was made illegal based on non-scientific "data" from the reefer madness era that based its criminalization campaign on fear, racism, and hate. dont take my word, look it up.
Jesus Christ when will people just wake up and say 'why not'.. I am in Amsterdam very often and their crime rates and quality of life put us to shame in America.. It's not the drug, it's the particular idiot that uses it.. who cares if people grow their own and use it? what's the problem? government can't get a cut from the sales?? people need to get over the mentality that getting stoned is a bad thing.. If I feel like smoking my bong and watching movies all night, who is anyone to stop me?
Actually from someone who has personally experienced the pharmaceutical drugs that they prescribe for pain...Morphine, Oxycontin, Levo Dromoran, and others...I would say that Medical Marijuana is less harmful to patients considering that you can die from an overdose on those Morphine and the other pharmaceutical pain medications and cannot die from Medical Marijuana.
Well, Marijuana's bad, Mkay. And, alcohol is bad, you shouldnt drink alcohol. And as for drugs, well, drugs are bad, you shouldnt do drugs, mkay? Mkay.
marijuana should be legal, period. More importantly, if the people in a state have an election and vote on the issue, their choice should be respected, certainly over that of Washington appointees.
Let's review Barack. Morphine is an opiate, habit forming, decreases appetite and contributes to wasting complications. I saw my grandmother die because of this.
Marijuana is non habit forming, increases appetitive, and prevents wasting. Some studies show that it decreases tumor size in certain cancers. Too bad it's illegal. Address that.
eh. An OK response. Kucinich, Gravel and Paul are all pro legalization. And Mr. Obama, what's wrong with someone growing their own weed? It takes the whole middle-man dirtbag crime element out of it. Weed is GOOD not BAD, this country needs to recognize that and there's no better way to recognize that than smoking it! Honestly, to all these people who are against marijuana legalization...Just smoke a joint and then tell me how bad it is. Marijuana is God's gift to humanity.
In no way has Obama said he would legalise it, certainly not for recreational purposes anyway. And even if marijuana was legalised, the federal gov't would tax the hell out of it.
Marijuana is a much better pain killer than opiates, things like morphine or oxycontin make you numb, if you don't feel anything than you can't feel pain. With pot the pain is still there along with other feelings, its just if you focus on something else you can't even tell its there.
Must be great to be in Iowa where your vote actually counts for something. Obama did visit relatives here in Hawaii but made no official appearances. Our votes don't count. aloha anyway :)
Marijuana is illegal only due to political reasons. In a new conclusive article Carrie Leigh's Nude Magazine goes inside the cost of the war on drugs and into the studies by the numerous governments around the world and clearly the United States is steps behind everyone of them. We need a President that will see past the smoke and into the real issues.
Just legalize marijuana, America. Come on. What's the big deal? If I can go down to the grocery store at any time of day and buy boxes of cancer-causing cigarettes and bottles upon bottles of addictive, liver-destroying alcohol, then why can't I legally buy an herb that ONLY causes sleepiness and increased appetite? It makes absolutely no sense that we still heed the false and idiotic principles of the 1930s that weed is somehow evil, addictive, and destructive. LEGALIZE MARIJUANA. TAX IT.
Federal laws are supposed to supersede state laws, and if in the interests of medicine, Federal guidelines can supersede state laws only if they are upheld by the Supreme Court. If there is an allowance made by Federal laws, state law enforcement would do well to uphold that. However, any use or even possession outside those guidelines will result in state laws applying.
Yeah but it wasn't about fed vs. state laws it was about would he make it ok to use it for medical reason and if doctors said it would help or be better then he would be open to it and once majority or all doctors agree then he would either take steps to making it fedrally ok country wide or fedrally ok for states to decide thats what he was saying and if you want to know what his answer would be write him a letter or try looking it up on his website
Sorry last thing, i was in an accident when i was 14, used to take pain pills, not prescribed but still i got basically hooked becuase of te pain. i havent taken an asprin or tylenol in 2 years, when i get off work from a manual labor job, i take a couple hits and can sleep just right. i cant afford 150 for a Liscense(robbery) shouldnt have to pay for our rights.
...it wouldnt be for millions of dollars, or anything like that, it would be the absolute legalization of marijuana and i want pack of 20 "Reefer" cigs to be cheaper then tobacco. that would be a B-E-A-utiful day. peace and love once again. Obama please allow these comments sorry about the f word in the first half, you are the reason i registered to vote :). You are here to save us from the CRAP that has been created by our past presidents.
marijuana is illegal for political reasons, not because its dangerous. its more safe to smoke and drive than drink and drive according to british experiments
I don't think Obama is supporting the legalizing of marijuana for public distribution, maybe he just means legalizing it for medicinal purposes only otherwise its probably still illegal.
pot can be ok but most of the supporters of legalizing it arent people who medically want it cuz they already have licenses to get it, you will see a bunch of idiotic stoners support this one. what a way to politic
go ahead and keep taking your prescription drugs, but watch your liver! Marijuana would be legal if they could come up with a way to tax it. I'm sure the day is coming soon when they will tax the sellers, similar to the way merchants pay for liquor licenses.
Yeah but it won't help because when election day comes or primaries come they will all be to stoned to remember to go vote for him and even if they do remember they will be to lazy to then.
what part of using cannabis makes you idiotic? Theres nothing wrong with getting high, its good for medicine and relaxation. Why is it so hard for people to beleive it can be good for both? Does everything have to go only one way or the other? geesh...
Marijuana, safer than alcohol and tobacco. Mr. Barack please have the courage to come out against the war on drugs, but alas I doubt you'll ever have the balls to stand up for personal freedom.
id like to see it legalized for medical and rec. reasons. If it was legalized we should have the farmers of the united states start to farm it, after evreyone gets used to it being legal so they wouldnt steal it.
Rofl at the two other posters. He's barely open to medical marijuana, he's not going to even think about legalizing it. That and there's only so much the president could do if he wanted to legalize it.
I hope it's a VERY slippery slope; it will be a GREAT day in america when you can go to a store and choose between panama red, kush, and blueberry with your 'buy an ounce get a free pack of zig zags' coupon.
I am disappointed sir, so you suppose that the patients must go to pharmaceutical industries while it grows wild. Not everything needs to be industrialized, and herbs from someones garden are no exception. While your marginal support is appreciated, cannabis IS different the morphine and should be treated different. Thanks, Disabled Veteran
Yes I agree, but a half step is concerning to me as well, when logic and ethics dictate to stop kicking in doors of sick people who do grow their own and shoving firearms in their faces. I just don't know anymore, I mean its just a medicinal herb when treated like one, when legislated it becomes a "drug".
yes! so true! Man, i bet Obama wouldn't let us continue to blow so much money on weed busts and anti-pot ads every year. I could see him giving us sweet legalization before ANY of the other actual contenders (wait for Ron Paul Bot)
A step in the right direction would be to legalize marijuana period. Obama just said he didn't like the idea of "folks growin it for their own" This is bullshit as growing a couple plants for yourself should not be a crime in a "free country".
I really admire obama for taking the right (but probably unpopular) stance on this issue, especially with all the buzz going around his former drug use
No he didn't he said if marijuana is the BEST way to treat a disease then it would be allowed. Any other time it would not. Contrary to popular believe marijuana does has some harmful effects. Such as damages to the pituitary gland and build up in the small micro spaces between nerves in the brain slowing reaction time.
I am surprised this video is here it really makes him look bad.
